We just had an event this weekend. Everything was nice and smooth. We all had such a great time. Melissa is awesome. Will keep this location in mind for other events. Thank You.

Melissa is AWESOME. she knows so much and is SO helpful. She gave us so many tips and kept us busy we were not bored at all. She also was able to help with referrals. I was a little nervous at first that this would be an intimidating experience but she was so sweet and welcoming. Cant wait for the actual day she does the makeup for my sister in law.

This is my first official Unilocal review (my daughter wrote the first one to satisfy an assignment, lol) and I am a little nervous because I’ve just spent a few minutes reading through other reviews of THE GLAM FACTORY and I’m in a bit of denial & disbelief about their negativity. Of course I wasn’t there for any of them, but based on MY experience with Melissa, it’s hard to imagine ANYONE having a bad time at TGF. My friends and I were there this afternoon to late celebrate my 40^th birthday (which was earlier this month) and we had a FABULOUS time. We never felt rushed even though I think my party of six lasted longer than expected. We arrived at 1 and stayed til 4 and enjoyed every minute of it. First of all, Melissa is GREAT. She’s patient, funny, and extremely knowledgeable. Let me just say that she’s also very flexible and understanding. I purchased my two groupon vouchers almost a year ago, they expired 9÷9÷13, and I rescheduled both of my parties THREE TIMES. As a business owner, I’m sure she was frustrated and probably annoyed (one day I had to reschedule THE DAY BEFORE) but she never made me feel bad. In fact, she was accommodating and helpful offering alternate dates. The facility itself is SUPER CUTE and Melissa made us feel at home. We got EXACTLY what was promised and never felt any pressure to buy anything, which is probably why we all did. My friends and I laughed and learned and really enjoyed ourselves. I sent them a text prior to writing this review asking what they thought and all five said nothing but GOOD things. I strongly recommend this activity, venue, and makeup artist. My second party is tomorrow (for my mom’s bday w HER friends) and I’m excited for them. One more thing… some of the drama of the negative reviews seem to be directed at the fact that it’s a «sales pitch» so Melissa can «sell her product» and advance her business. HELLO? That’s what groupon and living social and amazon local are all about… advertising and generating more business. I think the value of the voucher far exceeds the price in this situation and anyone complaining about the purpose of it doesn’t get it. Thank you, Melissa, and TGF for putting the final fabulous finishing touches on my fierce 40^th bday month!!!

–My friend bought the voucher, but we had no problems using it with Melissa like others have encountered
–Melissa was extremely professional and friendly
–A variety of cupcakes was given to the group and we shared them. Good stuff!
–Everyone got a goodie bag at the end of the day: eye shadow & chocolate!
–HIGHLIGHT: I liked how Melissa did not push us to buy any of the products we sampled. I was sort of dreading the end of the day because I thought there would be a whole speech about why we should buy the products. None whatsoever!
–Difficult place to find! It’s tucked away in a little apartment looking complex building in a very deserted area.
–I wish the individual makeover was a little bit more informative. Melissa didn’t really go over any techniques on how to do certain things I requested for (cat eyes)
–The process of the makeovers would have been faster if there was another makeup artist. Melissa was the only person I saw working at the Glam Factory.
–My face was super oily by the end of the night. The products we used was definitely not oil-​free-​enough for my face!

I really wish our entire party of 6 would have been able to make it, but the 4 that were able to go had a blast! Truth be told, after reading the reviews the night prior, I was all ready to be cranky and peeved, but our experience was the exact opposite of the other reviews. Yes, Melissa did share her specials at the end, but we weren’t obligated to buy.
Speaking of Melissa, she was a riot – very easy going and FUNNY! It felt like we were all just catching up with an old friend. Did I mention the cupcakes from Sweet Embellishments? Being the foodie I am, when we walked in, I immediately recognized the packaging… YUMMERS! That was it, I knew I’d have a good time regardless!
I’m not a girl that’s big on make up, so I did learn a lot, although, I don’t have the time or desire to use my new found knowledge on a daily basis. You do get to choose a look and she applies the make up. I immediately regretted my choice, however, after seeing my friend’s more dramatic choice. I have a soft spot for the smoky eye look, so I chose the smoky eyes. Problem is, I ALWAYS choose that look when I go out – should have used that night as a chance to venture out dammit!
Bottom line is we had fun. Melissa even suggested we hit up Sababa afterwards to try their nachos… man oh man… we are STILL craving some of that delicious Sababa food. Good call! :)

I am very disappointed by the level of customer service. I am not sure how other people feel but the woman in charge does not seem to want/​need my business.
I bought a groupon for the ladies day service back in september and quickly called to make an appointment. Due to unforeseen circumstances we could not make our appointment so i called to reschedule; no one answered so I left a message. (Btw i did call within the 72 hour cancellation policy requirement even though i was not canceling and still had every intention of using my groupon.) I never got a call back so I also called on the day of the appointment to be sure my message was received, but again, no one answered so I left another message. Fast forward to yesterday I called to try book an appointment I was told I was on the «do not schedule list»!! My jaw literally hit the floor. I was told I did not cancel prior to the 72 hour cancellation and I am not allowed to reschedule. The fact is that i tried to reschedule but no one ever called me back! Usually with groupon when the deal expires you can still use the paid value toward services with the company, well, she told me the paid value cannot be used because i did not cancel within 72 hours, AND that if i had a problem I should call groupon (essentially telling me she didn’t give a s*#% and to tell someone who cared.) She also told me I could rebook but I’d have to pay a «rebooking fee».
It’s crazy to me that I had to go through my phone records with AT&T to prove I called to reschedule (twice) instead of her just rescheduling my appointment, getting some business, making some money, and making everyone happy. ?? I don’t get it.
Sorry, I am not a mean person and I hate writing a negative review but she was really awful. I even called back after researching my phone records to try and straighten things out, but again, no one answered and I have not received a call back.
I wish I had read the reviews before I bought the groupon; even her responses to reviews come off as rude. Why wouldn’t she want to right the wrongs and turn people’s views around? I am completely dumbfounded and I will never recommend this company to anyone.
The only reason I gave it one star is because Unilocal makes you.

Likewise, we too had problems finding the Glam Factory. There wasn’t any big signs signaling that we had found the location nor was there enough lighting to be sure of it.
Booking the event wasn’t too hard. Honestly, it was harder trying to get all the ladies together.
Once again, likewise, Melissa was late to our appointment and I didn’t think much of it until I read all these reviews. We came from the valley and battled L. A traffic on a Friday night and we’re on time. She did mention something about her children to us as well…
The overall «Glam Factory» was girly and cute just like all the pictures show.
The event offered everything that was promised in the deal. The Champagne was good and the cupcakes were amazing. The makeup lesson was informative, but only for those who don’t use makeup on a regular basis. The makeup application consisted of Melissa putting on our eye make-​up and lip gloss. .. everything else is done by you. The goodie bag came with samples and chocolate.
Overall, I think «The Glam Factory» has a lot of potential. I enjoyed Melissa’s humor and had a good time with my cousins and friends. 2-​hours of entertainment for $ 8.17 each isn’t too bad if you live locally or plan on staying in the area, you’ll have your makeup done and already be a little toasty for the night.
Heads-​up:
If you leave your information with them they’ll call you to check-​up on any purchases you made with them or to see if you would like to purchase anymore supplies from them. Kinda annoying :(

Melissa is one cool chick!
My sister in law and I did the makeover party from groupon or living social or whatever… and it was cool. She bought us the yummiest cupcake ever!
At first, I thought this was a deal for her to do her Mary Kay sales pitch… but it’s not. Needless to say, we did end up buying skin care from her, but she wasn’t pushy about it. There was no pressure to buy anything.
Anyway, I’m the type of girl who doesn’t know a whole lot about makeup… so when the time comes that I need to doll myself up for an event, I will be going to her for a consultation.
Also, her studio is SUPER cute! I love it!

As a witness to the events shared on the 9÷11÷12 review by Christy H. of Huntington Beach I can attest to the fact that everything she said was true. Melissa is a false advertiser and gives terrible customer «service». And as the one who apparently drives too slow :-P I know that were only 5 minutes late because I was watching the clock. Melissa has lied about SO many things. It’s really unbelievable. I will disagree with Christy on one thing. I didn’t think the place looked particularly cute. It seemed a little cheesy to me. Pop up tables and table clothes — like at a convention. Not the classiest.

LADIES BEWARE OF THIS WOMAN — SHE’S A LIAR AND DOESN’T OWN UP TO HER MISTAKES, INSTEAD SHE TRIES TO PUT THE BLAME ON THE CUSTOMER.
There really should be an option for NEGATIVE stars. I honestly do NOT understand any of the 5 star ratings, either. I mean, I get that they didn’t have my experience — but I also know that almost her entire advertisement is false (aka FALSE ADVERTISING — she should know that’s not even legal). I noticed that she’s removed her «services» from her website, but it did advertise that there would be a «team» to apply our make-​up. There was no «team» there — there was only Melissa.
I made my reservation over FOUR MONTHS in advance to celebrate my birthday at The Glam Factory. The e-​mail exchanges I had with Melissa were prompt and courteous. I looked forward to enjoying a great birthday party.
Cut to the date of my party — all that changed. Not only did she not have my party reserved, but she basically called me a liar — claiming that she «didn’t do confirmations via e-​mail». She was completely adamant to myself and my guests that there was no such e-​mail. It wasn’t until I was able to pull up the e-​mail on my phone that she relented on that topic (I mean, seriously, did she think I coordinated a group of 8 women to come to her business — some of whom drove over two hours to come to my party — without any confirmation???).
The thing that really upsets me (aside of course from her insinuating that I was lying) is that she wasn’t in the least bit apologetic or accommodating. She basically was like «well, I have another party actually booked and one after that so I don’t know what to tell you». WHAT??? This is your response to a person whose plans YOU ruined? Seriously?
I honestly don’t know how she stays in business this way.
While I understand that mistakes happen, I absolutely DO NOT understand her lack of empathy or any attempt at trying to fix the situation.
I will say that my night was not ruined — but that’s because I wasn’t going to let it be ruined. But it was definitely impeded. We wasted an hour of our night between arguing with her and then trying to find an alternate plan.
And while I get that she may not care that she lost my business since I bought the deal through Living Social (who has already refunded my money) — I’m happy to know that I’ve cost her at least TWO full-​paying parties. I have a friend and a cousin who were planning on having their events there had mine gone well. And in this «social media» day — I will definitely be spreading the word wherever/​whenever possible.
The irony of the situation is that had she apologized and showed even a little remorse, I probably wouldn’t have even taken the time to post a review. Perhaps she’ll learn something from this.
The one positive I can say is that the studio was definitely cute — but who cares when we didn’t even get to enjoy an event there.

Melissa, your response has only served to prove my point at what a horrible businesswoman you are (as well a dishonest one) — and actually quite ignorant to the abilities of people to impact your future business. You should be apologizing to me, not posting a snarky, deceitful comment.
First, I’m not sure why you wrote «even if» I had an appointment when you know FULL WELL that I did.
Second, I was NOT 30 minutes late. I WAS a little late because, unfortunately a friend drove me and I didn’t realize she was such a cautious driver and took WAY longer than I would have. That said, my entire party was there when the other party only had ONE person there — yet it was me and my party who were getting the shaft.
Third, I didn’t try to add a «bunch of people». Are you kidding me with your lies and delusions??? I had ONE extra person and you had already approved that for an extra fee — again, I HAVE e-​mail proof for everything I’m saying. BTW, this was brought up that day and verified. I am telling the truth, so I’m not sure what you think you’re going to gain by coming on Unilocal to lie about it.
Fourth, I never said you don’t «have» a team, but you did NOT have a team of people that day. When you advertise that there will be a «team» of people applying make-​up for the group then that implies there will be more than one person. Who cares that you have other people that you work with if they weren’t there that day?

***BUYER BEWARE: This «Ladies’ Makeover Party» is actually a Mary Kay party.***
The more I think about my experience at the Glam Factory, the angrier I get about it. Did I have a terrible time? Not really, but we left feeling completely misled — nothing in our Living Social promotion even mention the words Mary Kay.
Melissa has obviously found a resourceful way to sell her makeup, but virtually every part of her promotion is misleading and untrue. You are not being pampered — you are applying MK products yourself and there is one woman (no «team») applying eyes and lips, one person at a time. The «upscale boutique venue» is a business park near the airport.
Aside from the deceptive nature of the event, I found Melissa to be super unprofessional in the way she conducts her business. I counted at least five times she brought up another customer’s negative Unilocal review and OMG how CRAZY they were. It made everyone feel pretty uncomfortable and for a business «owner and guru», you should know better than to trash talk other customers to your current ones.
By the time we were finished (after Melissa tells us about the NEW and EXCITING products we can buy from Mary Kay!) it was already 10pm — we were so weirded out, tired and just plain over it that we ditched our plans to go out and everyone just went home to bed.
Straight up — If I had known the true nature of the deal, I would not have attended — as a woman I have been politely avoiding these parties my entire life.
…And those were free.

As an UPDATE to my earlier post:
The day of our appointment, I had ordered a lipstick that, unfortunately, had to be the only item not in stock– LOL, really the stock Melissa carries is HUGE, however my fave shade of lipstick was due in Monday. Melissa promised to ship ASAP when her order arrived and… I received it yesterday! Right on! I am very appreciative of her doing exactly as she said she would.

Earlier this year, when my girlfriend invited me to a private «Ladies Night Out» session at the Glam Factory with champagne, cupcakes, and a make application, I thought, FUN!!! Who could resist such a treat?
She bought the session through a deal through LivingSocial. «Two hours of ultimate pampering» was the advertisement. I didn’t get a chance to read the fine print, but needless to say, I came here excited with high expectations.
Those expectations were not met.
The «two hours of ultimate pampering» was a euphemism for a Mary Kay facial. We sat in a row and applied cleanser, toner, and moisturizer ON OUR OWN. How is that the ultimate pampering experience? I felt cheated out of a relaxing evening. It was a sales pitch, through and through.
No offense to Mary Kay and their products, but I’m a die hard Estee Lauder/​Lancome make-​up snob. The thought of switching to anything else is unfathomable. But still, I felt obligated to make a purchase and so I did. Two out of three items I purchased still sit unused in my toiletry bag.
I later found this makeup session deal was priced at $ 350. Unbelievable.
My party of five and I had amazing time at the Glam Factory. We brought three bottle of wine to the session. Who wouldn’t have an amazing time with good friends and three bottles of wine?
Long story short, come here with an expectation: Mary Kay facial. Google it. I did, belatedly.

Melissa is one sharp cookie who really knows her stuff! She took a small uninteresting office space in an obscure little industrial park that you would miss if you blinked and turned in into a super cute and functional office/​party room that is oozing with charm and girliness. Melissa is a superstar Mary Kay director and loves what she does.
This is obvious when you notice all of the fun little details she has put into this room. Everything is pink, black and white with cute wallpaper, long tables set up with mirrors, and champagne glasses begging to be filled by giggling ladies.
I was planning an excursion to the Renaissance Pleasure Faire with my besties and decided to surprise them with a makeover. They did not know where they were going, they were just told they were in for a treat, and a true treat it was! We took before and after pictures, learned about skin care and went through all of the steps with some of the wonderful products that Melissa introduced us to. She evaluated everybody’s skin tone and made recommendations as to which colors would be the most flattering in foundations, eye shadows, and yummy lip glosses. It was so much nicer than going to a regular Mary Kay party in someone’s home. We all knew each other and just had fun learning something new and being ourselves.
Great marketing and hostessing, Melissa… you should be proud! (I could be wrong, but I think that if you ask «pretty please», Melissa will actually rent out the room for small birthday parties, bridal showers, etc. when the room is not otherwise booked for Mary Kay events. Totally worth checking out… sweet and intimate venue)

Makeup and skin is all Mary Kay products. Never used them before so was nice to learn about a line that is new to me. Melissa, the Mary Kay rep and make up artist, was nice and friendly. She shared stories and jokes that made the environment really laid back and fun. The studio is super girly with pink and black décor. There are also some accessories you can buy as well which is cute.
The process: you sit in a row at a table and in front of each seat has a mirror with a tray of skin products. Melissa walks you through the whole process from cleansing to applying your makeup as a group. The part that Melissa takes over is the eye makeup. I ended up having a pretty natural eye look but still nice. I would have liked to be told what she was doing and some info about the eye products, this would really help sell the eye makeup in my opinion. It would also help us newbies with how to put on makeup. Another suggestion that I would appreciate is if we were asked what kind of eye look we would prefer such as natural, smokey, glamorous… etc. Not everyone wants the same look. While this is all happening we get to sip on some champagne and have a cupcake. Cupcakes were so good! At the end, we got a little goody bag with hersheys kisses, a sample lip gloss and eye shadow.
Products: The skin products all felt very nice and moisturizing. I have dry skin and it was able to tame my flaky areas. Foundation has a wide color selection. I tried to use the sample eye shadow and it’s not pigmented. I really had to rub several times with my finger to get a swatch of it. Lip gloss was nice and not too sticky.
Overall, it was a nice and relaxed time with good company.

My friend organized an outing for us to check out the glam factory. I didn’t know what to expect since I had never heard of it, my friend just saw it advertised on living social and decided to purchase it.

one of our girls was in a wheelchair and Melissa made sure she had enough room behind the table. Melissa started to match all of our colors and i was a little nervous because I was not sure if she would have a color for me. I was the only black woman there and I’m pretty dark so I just wasn’t sure if she would be able to accurately match me with anything. but she did ! I was so happy to be able to find a foundation color that looked good on my skin tone.
so any way the evening was wonderful, it didn’t feel rushed, it was full of laughter and good conversation. she showed an interest in what we did for a living and shared with us a little bit about her family. it was just a lot of fun. I didn’t purchase anything that night but some of my friends did. i didn’t feel pressured to buy anything or awkward not to buy anything which was good!
but i will be contacting her soon to get some stuff.
if i were to say anything that was slightly unflattering it would be that– the music could have been the edited version of the songs (blocking out the profanity). some visitors might mind and might not but you want to make sure to appeal to all customers so its just best to play edited versions over the other ones. like for example a Macy’s department would do.

Ok so this is the first review I have ever written and its because my experience was awful! The reason I gave it even 2 stars was because the décor inside was cute and my 1 cupcake was good. That’s it !
Let me start with the place is super hard to find, there is no lighting, no visible signs and I felt scared driving into a dark industrial street!
I had purchased the livingsocial deal which clearly states champagne cupcakes and a goodie bag with FULL size products. I had no clue this was MK which is fine but I wanted to get my makeup done and relax with my girls, instead I felt like I got a salespitch and felt obligated to buy.
Melissa never told me what colors she was using or which product, I would ask occassionally just to make small talk. And being it was labeled a girls night out deal I thought it unprofessional to say she wanted to hurry so she can get home. Plus I giggled while she was doing my makeup and she was clearly annoyed ;/​mind you I did all my face prep, cleaning, lotion and foundation. she applied my eye make up blus and gloss. Without even telling me the colors.
She gave us all 1 cupcake 1 glass of champagne. And at the and showed us a 200plus dollar makeup kit to buy!
Seriously I coulda had a MK party got my make up for free! I paid 50bucks for 6 cupcakes and 1 cup of champagne a piece. We left with a small box not goodie bag and it did not contain a full size product but a sample, hershey kiss and 3 business cards! Yes 3!!! If not for being with my girls this would have been a horrible waste of $
Does anyone wanna pay to sit and have people sell them stuff? Ugh

I bought the Living Social deal for the Glam Factory for a Ladies Night with my girlfriends. We had such a fun time– From the décor to the Mary Kay skin care and makeup session to the champagne and cupcakes — it was a fantastic experience.
I currently use Mary Kay products, but it was nice to learn about other products that weren’t shown /​explained in other Mary Kay presentations I’ve attended. A few of us purchased the «queen set» of Mary Kay products — but after talking to my friends — we decided that it’s better to invest into our skin care now, than have to pay for wrinkles and other procedures later down the line.
Melissa (our hostess) was very accomodating and responsive to my phone calls and changing our dates — it’s hard to organize 6 girls for an outing, let alone make sure that our schedule worked with Melissa’s. But it all worked out. She didn’t pressure us into buying or doing anything we didn’t want to. She was very knowledgable of the products and when she did our makeup, made sure that it complimented the outfits we were wearing.
Definitely recommend Melissa and the Glam Factory. But try to book it for a Friday night or on the weekend if you plan on wearing your makeover out on the town.
I only have 2 complaints — which doesn’t affect my 5 star rating:
(1) — it was hard to find the place due to lack of lighting — thank goodness for GPS! — But Melissa said that the building manager should be adding a light sometime soon.
(2) — I wish we could have stayed longer (the event was only scheduled for 2 hours) because we were having such a fabulous time!

I bought the Living Social special that was $ 49 for a girls night out.
After I purchased the deal I read the reviews and saw that she was a Mary Kay consultant. I know with Mary Kay you can book a FREE however the $ 49 is for the cost of the make up session for 6 girls not a MK party.
Melissa the owner of the The Glam Factory was super sweet and hospitable with working with the crazy dates I sent her way. Finally after getting all the girls to commit we picked a date. We decided on this past Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. We were a little late because the location was little hard to find. There was no lighting on the main street.
We were greeting with a warm smile and a big welcome from Melissa. The girls that had make up on were able to use the MK oil free eye makeup-​remover (which is amazing!). After we were seated we started the MK hand and face cleansing. After we were all cleaned up we put on foundation that matched our skin tones, then the party began!
Melissa popped open a bottle of champagne for 4 of the girls and the other two who were 19 got pink lemonade. As a snack we cupcakes (THE best cupcakes). One by one we individually got our makeup done. After we were all done we looked through the book to check out all the products that dolled us up.
I loved the products so much and I was so impressed by Melissa’s knowledge with all the MK products, I am know an MK consultant :)
Cons:
— The street lighting! (this is for the city to fix)
— The full size products was a MK lip balm I love it! but I thought we were getting other products.
Overall my experience was fabulous!

My sister-​in-​laws and I decide to have girls day out and we started off at the Glam Factory.
From the get-​go Melissa was totally accomodating and friendly. When making the appointment, we went from 6 girls to 4 girls to 4.5 girls (one was going to be late). But Melissa was completely accomodating and prepared for 6 of us anyway!
We were doing a make-​up session, and were introduced to the Mary Kay line of products. Although I have heard the shpeel before, Melissa did a better job of describing each product that I didn’t feel like I was being sold or put under an uncomfortable sales pitch.
We started off with washing and exfoliating our hands, followed by cleansing our faces, then prepping our skins for makeup applications, then she applied each of our make-​ups. She had a good eye for coloring and what worked best for each of us. This group of ours hardly uses makeup, so what we ended up having on was much more that what we were used to and for us it would be something that we would wear for a evening out. Lucky for all of us, we were having a girls night out! The lip colors she gave us were more bolder than our typical no-​color chapsticks, so she offered lighter more nuder shades that we were comfortable with. So if you have a preference, speak up otherwise don’t complain.
She offered gourmet cupcakes and champagne! So you definately need to be 21+ to join in on the fun. I’d assume if there were any under 21, no champagne for anyone. The décor totally reminds me of Victoria Secret, so girly but sassy. But I have to question the lighting tho cuz I kinda felt like I was in a office or warehouse… and not that I’m a professional, but is that the best lighting needed for make-​up application? It could have been warmer and more flattering. The place looks like she can hold up to 40−50ppl in one seating, but still intimate. Good for events.
So YES! We enjoyed it sooooo much that each of us found something we liked. Totally suckered into buying something anyway. but I love it! =P Like I said, it wasn’t a high pressure sales… if it was… forget it… I would have held off on buying on principle alone! She had everything in stock and can take credit cards, cash, and cheque. Not sure about debit tho. Cuz she runs the cards through her Droid right then and there. (thank god for smartphones huh!)
In the end… some tips to those planning on going:
1) bring hair ties and/​or bobby pins or barrette to keep your hair off your face.
2) don’t wear makeup, even foundation cuz you’ll end up washing it all off anyway
3) Her place is kind of hard to find, so be on the look out for the VERT Scooter sign on one of the buildings and the Glam Factory is located in that same building.
4) Tipping is optional, but of course nice if you like what she did
5) this is a 2-​hour event so plan accordingly
We got the LS deal that was running, so the price was amazing for our whole group. Would this review still be 4-​stars if I had to pay full price? Hmmmm… i wish I could live and see my alternate life. But the full price isn’t too bad when you have a min of 6 ppl. Any less… I would need to have gold included in the parting gifts we were given.
