Thairapy Salon & Spa

NOT a good experience with Mary at Thairapy in Long Beach. I was willing to drive over 30 miles from Santa Monica for a trim because I heard she did a good job. Well, I never found out if she did or if she didn’t — and I NEVER will!
When I called for an appointment, I was told she was booked at 11:30AM, the time I asked for on that Thursday — but that she could take me at 10:45AM. I agreed, told Crystal, the receptionist that I was an hour away and that I would rely on Google Maps for directions and timing to their Long Beach location.
Well, I arrived 8 (yes, 8!) minutes late (at 10:53AM!) and Mary REFUSED to take me — even though I had driven that distance, even though all I needed was a simple haircut, even though I have a very short hairstyle (which has NEVER taken any hairdresser more than 20 minutes to cut) and even though she still had 35 minutes left till her next appointment.
But to me the really insulting kicker was that Mary REFUSED to even come out to meet me — or to speak with me — or to try to work out a solution. Instead, I heard her tell the receptionist to say «she had gone home». I’m sure we could have worked out some sort of an arrangement had we had the opportunity to speak — but not with Mary’s arrogant attitude and behavior! Who needs that?

I’ve gone to Andrea a few times and her range is exquisite. I actually got a cut I’ve never had before and she did a great job. I’ve gotten nothing but complements (and tons of lady lookers)

Been getting my hair cut by Andrea Laursen for a while now. She does a great job and I am always satisfied with my hair cut.

I have been going to Edith for almost two years. I drive all the way from downtown LA. I went from red to grey– silver and my hair is still so healthy. I definitely recommend her. She does my extensions as well.

I’ve been going to Andrea for 8 years and it took me awhile before that to find a hairstylist that I absolutely loved. I’ve followed her to every salon and this particular location is amazing in itself. I’ve never been disappointed in a hair cut from her and will be a client for life. It’s an amazing salon with an amazing stylist.

This is a wonderful salon with a beautiful view. Andrea did a great color & cut for me plus a haircut for my husband all under 2 hours. Efficient and talented what more can you ask for.

Kylie is the most amazing skin therapist! I have been seeing her for awhile now and she just moved to this place, and it’s definitely worth it. She offers LED light therapy which helps with anti-​aging, acne, scarring, etc! Today I got a full hour treatment with extractions, pumpkin enzyme peel, blue & yellow light, & microderm in certain areas ! My skin is glowing. It’s so smooth and clear. She has always delivered and is so knowledgeable in everything skin. What also makes her amazing is that she is always going to trainings to keep up with the trends in skincare and to also bring the most updated and effective treatments to her clients. She is always having amazing deals and every treatment is customized to your skin and what you want/​need! Definitely need to come see her especially because this weather is ever changing! You will LOVE it!

Kylie is such an amazing Esthetician! After my service my skin felt better than ever! It felt more hydrated and firm and plump! She is super sweet and has everything from Microdermabrasion to Microcurrent to really enhance the results. We even did the pumpkin peel over my tattoos and they were much more vibrant afterwards too! The facial was very relaxing and she will customize the music to you choice. She’s the best!

I am done with this salon. The incompetent staff behind the desk have no common sense or respect for the client’s valuable time.
I had an appointment scheduled for 5:00 pm today. My hair dresser was apparently sick. Someone named Crystal called my home phone and left a message. She had my cell number in their system, but didn’t bother to call it. Guess what? I HAVE A JOB. I WORK DURING THE DAY.
I have to leave work early, fight heavy traffic from downtown LA to get to Thairapy. I show up and then am told that my appointment was canceled. Crystal said she tried to call my cell but it went to voice mail.
My phone shows no incoming calls today from them until 4:45 pm, 15 minutes before my appointment.
If it went to voice mail, why didn’t she leave a message? Oh wait. She did, 15 minutes before my appointment when she realized that I never called the salon AFTER she left a message on my home phone at 9:45 this morning.
Rebekah has cut her schedule back and it’s difficult to coordinate a regular appointment with her. Time for me to move on. I drove directly to another salon and booked an appointment for tomorrow.

I’ve been going to Jeannie Marie for years and years, following her from salon to salon! She is a master colorist and just reads my mind when it comes to the next color I’m craving. She’s always up on the latest trends and keeps my hair looking great! She’s a blast to talk to during my appointment and her genuinely kind service is what keeps me coming back!
The salon is also very nice and in a beautiful location — I love feeling that ocean breeze when I’m walking up. The receptionists are always professional and organized. It’s also extremely clean and well kept. A++++

I definitely recommend Jeannie Marie, she is amazing!
When I first went to Jeannie, my hair was extremely damaged from bleaching my hair myself (horrible idea). Since then, Jeannie has used great products on my hair that have greatly improved the quality. My hair went from being dry/​damaged hair with a lot of breakage, to soft/​healthy looking hair that is getting its shine back.

First off I’d like to say this review is for the stylist Edith, not for the salon itself. The two stars are for the beautiful location and sweet receptionist.
So I purchased a Groupon for $ 80 for a color, cut and partial highlights by Edith. Everything starts out ok until we get to the color portion. All I was asking for was an all over dark brown color and a trim. I wasn’t even asking for the highlights that came with the Groupon. I have brown hair already and have been getting the same sort of dark brown color for 10 years and have been to over 15 different professional salons with no problem. She begins to tell me I need a color correction and an upcharge of $ 30 extra for a trim because my hair is a bit over shoulder length. I could tell by her attitude she obviously didn’t feel like working that day and had no problem dismissing me without a care in the world. I left without my hair getting done and cancelled the Groupon.
Word of advice to stylist everywhere, please don’t offer a special like Groupon then treat those who purchased it ‘less than’ your full paying clients (which is the vibe I got). I would have been a returning client if the service was good and I do tip well. Now she’s down a client and money and I will never recommend this Salon to anyone. Good job Edith.

Jessie is the best, the end. Honestly though, I receive so many compliments on my lashes I have no trouble saying that they are synthetic and to go to Jessie. Kind heart and great personality, she makes you feel comfortable and that you have been friends with her for years.

I found Amanda Torres through Groupon. What a great find!!! Amanda is amazing at balancing what you want versus what she knows as a professional is best for you. After seeing her for a year she suggested I do something radical to match my Rock Star Status :) I totally trust her with my locks. She’s awesome if you just need the basics, but if you let her work her magic and do something creative you will not be upset with the results. I highly recommend! Great $$$ too.

I recommend everyone to ask for Edith Moreno because she can work wonders on any type of hair, especially ethnic. I was fortunate enough to meet her at sallys beauty store after I had walked out of a salon on the brink of tears because of a horrible hair job I had just gotten.
About my hair
I have asian black hair, i had dyed it a brown and my roots were showing, and I really wanted to go blonde with highlights. The previous salon I went to bleached my entire head but left my roots alone, it was patchy and uneven, and left dark spots everywhere. Of course having dark hair I knew it would be such a challenge to change in one session but i was prepared for 2. Once i went through my first wash, i saw how horrible of a job the stylist had done, i immediately pointed out flaws and asked questions. I put money on the table and walked out. I had bright brassy ORANGE COPPER hair with black everywhere, it was a mess, i admit i cried. I took it to myself to try and fix it so i went to sallys.
(Note: when a professional stylist gives you advise, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS LISTEN)
I met Edith at sallys while I was looking for some toner, and asked for help trying to find the difference between boxes. She asked me about my hair and I told her my story. She told me she was a professional hair stylist and if she could take a look. Even she was suprised at how bad the bleaching job was. She said it wasn’t so bad and that I could come in to fix it but I shouldn’t try bleaching the black spots on my own. She handed me products to treat my hair, gave me her card, and told me to come see her and set an appointment that week. But of course I couldn’t stand the black and I had a dinner to go to, i bleached the spots in my hair 3 Times to try and fix it and looked like a spotted 3 tone orange and black cat. I rocked a beanie over my head for 2 days and set an appointment.
Finally being at the salon, Edith had reminded me that I shouldn’t have bleached my hair on my own because now she couldn’t use as much bleach and get it as light as she could have with the hair I had before. I made the work much harder because there was so many black spots in the middle of my roots and ends. So there you go guys (always listen to a stylist) she said she’ll try to do the best she can to tone and blend everything out with highlights and a medium brown because that’s the best I can get right now. Anything that would look better than the hair that i came in with would do. I already had trust in her, and i let her do whatever she thought was best. Edith gave me soo many highlights, i was covered in foils. It was about a 4 hour session. When we were done and it was my last wash, oh my god a big weight was lifted off my shoulders and my heart was beating so fast in excitement, i couldn’t even believe it was my hair. No more brassy orange, she did such an amazing job I could’ve cried of joy. It was such a great job even her Co workers asked if she took a before and after pic! I will definitely be coming back to her whenever I need to get my hair done! I never had a hair stylist to go to because I’ve never let anyone touch my hair, and after my bad experience I almost didn’t ever want to go again. Edith works wonders, and she takes her time and really wants to satisfy her client. I’m forever grateful

I have lots of good things to say about this salon, and about Suzanne!
Suzanne has been cut-​n-​coloring my hair for over seven years! She always does a fabulous job updating my blonde hair with highlights and lowlights when needed. She’s great at both short and long/​layered cuts – I’ve gone thru both phases myself! One of my favorite parts about Suzanne is her gift for gab, never a dull moment. AND, she’s also perfectly comfortable with a quiet hair session on days that I just want to be alone with my thoughts (I know this is a weird complement, but it’s much appreciated!).
As for the salon overall, it is always clean and happy. Plenty of free parking. They have robes you can wear. The front desk girl is very nice and offers me water/​coffee/​WINE every time I’m there. And I really appreciate how helpful (and flexible) they are to accommodate my difficult work schedule. The reminder phone calls before my appt are very helpful.

I met Suzanne for the first time last week on Wednesday for a Blow-​dry 101, which I purchased from living social. She showed me how to do my hair without damaging it.
I have somewhat curly hair. I loved my hair and really enjoyed meeting her as well.
I just posted a picture of my hair on this site. Can’t wait to go back to see her for another great hair day.

After having a not so good experience with a former employee of Thairapysalonspa, Lesli, the owner of the salon contacted me and offered to correct my hair free of charge. Lesli even asked me to send her pictures so that she and Amanda (an amazing stylist at Thairapysalonspa) could take a look at what they’d be working with. I’m so thankful for the time, care, and attention they both gave me. I will definitely be a regular customer at Thairapysalonspa. The salon and stylists are fantastic, and will do whatever they can to make you satisfied with your hair style. Again, Amanda did an excellent job, paying close attention to my color, even adding a conditioning mask to help soothe my dry, bleached hair. Thank you!

Absolutely love this place! Jeannie Marie does absolutely amazing work and will make you feel right at home.
She was so sociable and accommodating to everything I asked for. I am overly impressed with how wonderful this salon is.
