PreFurred Pet Care

This review is a little late (life got busy) but still think it’s important to share. And get comfortable, this review is long.
Last year we hired Prefurred to care for our senior German Shepherd/​Lab mix. We met with a few companies and they definitely seemed like the best fit and our dog really seemed to like them.
We started with dog walks to see how things would go and all seemed to work well! We received updates about our buddy and received tips and recommendations following their visits. Everything seemed great! Lisa and her team seemed very responsive and caring.
After a positive experience with dog walking, we set up an overnight visit. At the time, that «package» included walks in the morning and evening, feeding, and someone would stay the night at our house. Unfortunately, that’s where things went south.
The first night, we received an update and images from Lisa regarding the stay. Everything seemed to be going well which set our mind at ease. Plus, as we knew and trusted Prefurred, it was just validation for what we had experienced thus far and that we made the right decision.
The next day, I received a note from Lisa letting me know that she had a commitment in the afternoon and would feed our boy early, leave and return later, which was absolutely no problem for us. That evening I didn’t hear from Lisa and didn’t receive any updates. I didn’t think anything of it.
The next day, I returned in the afternoon to a happy dog and all seemed OK. After settling back in, I went to the backyard and noticed evidence that my dog had done his bathroom business in the back. And it appeared it happened several times. While this may seem normal, for our dog, it’s not. He pees in the back but normally does nothing else, choosing to hold it until his walk. Typically, he only does more when we miss a walk or he’s sick. I thought it was odd, but again, didn’t think much of it.
Later that evening I took my dog for a walk and he seemed much more energetic and was clearly eager to get out. During the walk he went to the bathroom about four times, far more than normal. He repeated this trend the next more (3 times). I’m thinking he might be sick and watched him.
At that point there were a few signs that something wasn’t normal but I didn’t know exactly what it was. I figured maybe my boy was simply anxious with us being out and this was the result. I was giving Prefurred the benefit of the doubt.
Later that evening, I was looking through my home alarm app (which I do regularly for updates, etc) and noticed something disturbing. Long and short of it, it appeared that Lisa and the Prefurred team didn’t hold up their end of the bargain.
I found logs that suggested that they didn’t take my dog for a walk the entire time they were watching him (which explains the backyard). They didn’t have a key to the back gate or detached garage and it appeared that when they arrived, they simply opened the back door to let the dog out. One can’t get out of the backyard into the alley without a key.
Further, on the second night, I noted that someone left early evening as was mentioned then didn’t return until the next morning (at least two hours after we asked Prefurred to feed him) and again, didn’t appear to walk my dog.
I quickly reached out to Lisa to get to the bottom of it as we felt extremely disappointed and our trust was grossly violated. I sincerely wanted some sort of explanation that would help me understand what happened.
The only response I received after some time was that she would drop off my key and asked for her extension cord back. She mentioned that she had a personal issue which explained why she was slow in returning the key, but no mention of what happened during the visit. No offer to return some of the money as we clearly didn’t get what we paid for. Nothing more.
I know there are several of my neighbors that work with Prefurred and love them. And I’m sure she is doing a great job for them, as she did for us initially. Maybe what happened during the overnight visit was an anomaly, who knows. Either way, we won’t be going back and can’t recommend them.

A+ Service. The service we were going to use bailed on us two days before we were supposed to leave town for a wedding. PreFurred Pet Care absolutely came to our rescue. Marisa came out the next day to meet our pups. She was great with them and asked detailed questions to make sure she knew exactly what they needed while we were gone.
When we were out of town, Marisa sent us daily texts with pictures of our pups. This made me really happy, as this was our first time having someone watch our dogs, so it was good to know they were doing fine. I really appreciated this added service.
The only bit of trouble we had was that we were accidentally charged double what we had been quoted. I emailed Lisa as soon as I got the email with the charges and she cleared everything up in under an hour. I understand that it was just a mistake and like the fact that they handled it as fast as they did. The charge was reversed and the proper amount was charged.
We will definitely be using PreFurred Pet Care again!

This was my first time using a pet sitter in Southern California. I was worried about letting a stranger into my home; a business I had never used before, let alone left my «kids» with. Marisa and Amy met with me and calmed my worries.
They took care of my cats and my dog while I was away. They did a great job!
Marisa sent me photos while I was gone. It is difficult to get a good shot of my cats, but she did well. Having these gals take care of my pets while I was away helped me have a wonderful time.
They were communicative and answered every question I had.
Thank you for taking such good care of my babies while I got away from it all for a little while. Purrs to you!

Marisa and Amy took great care of our two kittens during a week-​long East coast trip (we’d be returning customers if we hadn’t moved out of their service area). They did a thorough initial appointment and took great care of Cali and Mal. It’s obvious from how they interacted with our pets that they love animals. We particularly loved that they would text us with photos of the kittens!

This was my first experience with a professional pet sitter & what a great experience it was. Marissa was great about sending me pics of my pups while I was away which also helped to ease my anxieties. She was on it. I am going to be using their services from now & on…

Lisa is the BEST! I have a dog who is not the friendliest when you first meet her, but Lisa was very patient and Leia warmed up to her immediately. I had Lisa walk Leia a couple days a week and stay overnight when I had to go out of town and both Leia and I couldn’t have been happier. Lisa LOVES animals and it shows. Unfortunately Leia and I moved out of state, but if I were still there, Lisa would always be my go-​to person to take care of my pets.
