Cheap beer, punk rock, divey in all the right ways. What’s not to like?

My boyfriend had a punk show to play here. It was fun. Chill bar with good drink prices. My tecate was nice and cold. Staff was polite and service was good.

This place could very easily be one of my new favorite bars. Cheap-ass drinks. There are specials posted all over and no matter what day you go there will always be some sort of deal. The jukebox was cool too. It looked like a giant Ipad on the wall but had lots of obscure shit. Only bummer is that it’s cash only and no ATM and the gas station next door goes on lock-down at like 8 so you can’t go inside.

This is not the same bar Hans reviewed… at all. Beer is cheap. The staff is clothed. The psuedomilitary security guard is a friendly bouncer. The jukebox plays damn near anything. A damn fine bar. Just go have some fun.

This place is under new management… So far it looks really promising, especially with the strict security which lets no riff raff or vagabonds come into the establishment. The jukebox has a great selection, including some indie bands that you wouldn’t think it would have. Sad to say but it has no rap or hip hop to my knowledge. 2 pool tables, 3 tVs, and round tables on the side for sitting, and some cute bartenders. Recommend you give it a shot, it could be a hit or miss in your book but doesn’t hurt to give it a try.

Wow, what to say about The Nugget… we rolled in there not knowing what to expect exactly. There was plenty of parking out front of this bunker like, windowless cinder block construction. The neon out front had been calling the more adventurous of us for months now… Before entering we were all frisked by a security guard dressed up in the quasi military style. He would have looked right at ease with an AR-15 over his shoulder. After that we parted the curtains covering the doorway and entered into a scene more familiar to me south of the border. There was a live band present, belting out corridos and spanish covers of popular hits, both mexican and american. Along the walls are small round tables at which heavily made up women of various ages sit by themselves waiting for a gentleman to ask for a round on the dance floor. I’m not one to judge the clientele but the fashion theme for the ladies here is almost uniformly short, tight and hiphuggingly revealing. Leading me to think that at least some of these girls are not so much on a recreational lark as they are indulging their entrepreneurial spirit… This was confirmed when one of our party was repeatedly offered«special» services… That being said, the beer is cold but expensive, served not only with a wedge of lime but an entire plate of cut limes and a tub of salt. I could definitely appreciate these accoutrements but at $ 4.50 a pop for cans of Modelo it was a bit rich, special services or not. The barkeep didn’t speak any english which is not a problem though. I found it comforting and authentic in this setting, almost transporting me to Mexico. I’m rating this a three for the sheer(pun intended) experience of it. When you part the curtains at The Nugget late Saturday night be prepared to enter a world most 9 – 5 franchise loving gringos will never see.
