I saw people dance Zydeco at the Rock ‘n’ Bowl in New Orleans and knew I had to learn this sexy, happy dance. I looked up Karen Redding and she taught me the moves. When I came to my first lesson, I was shy, intimidated and sure I’d never learn. Her infectious smile made me feel welcome and her enthusiasm melted my defenses. She broke the steps and the rhythm into small, easy segments. Before I knew it, i was part of a happy, bouncing scene– good-hearted, friendly people who love great Zydeco and Cajun music and good times. I’ve only seen and felt joy at any Zydeco event I’ve ever attended and, since Karen taught me how to dance over 5 years ago, I have attended many Zydeco dances, both here and in Louisiana. I hear there’s a Zydeco cruise in November, too. One day, I’ll participate in that.
