Born in Toronto, Canada, Josie Neglia grew up amongst many Italian friends as a middle child of Sicilian parents. From a very young age, she studied ballet and jazz and later entered York University as a dance major where she had four years of extensive daily training in ballet and modern dance.

Josie graduated with a Bachelors degree and entered the ballroom/​Latin field as a teacher for a private studio where she trained daily and began teaching and competing as a professional in International Latin dance.

Due to her presence on the internet and through her instructional video series, Josie became one of the most sought-​after instructors and performers worldwide. Josie is known for her easy-​to-​learn teaching methods and spectacular performance ability.

Josie gave us lessons and choreographed our first dance for our wedding for a very fair price. When we started we could barely dance together, but she was an amazing teacher and turned us into rockstars. The most down to earth and passionate Salsera I’ve crossed paths with. Josie’s a pro in every respect of the word, but also enjoys sharing her skills and love of dance to any that’s interested. Her six point formula and way of teaching made learning too easy. I’ve never felt more comfortable outside of my box. Her classes were a joy and definitely one of the experiences I’ll never forget during my 4 months in LB.
I’d be a lifer, if I didn’t move to NorCal. I miss my 2−3x a week with Josie and the gang already! Salsa will change your life if you let it. Cheers!

I take private lessons with Josie and simply can’t begin to describe what a great teacher she is. I travel 2.5 hours each way for my lessons, and they are well worth the trip. When I started lessons with Josie, I could dance the various routines in my salsa 1.5 class, but outside of class all I could dance on the social dance floor was a basic. Josie changed that. After only a few private lessons, I was leading moves on the social dance floor and not just in class.
I highly recommend taking privates with Josie. Not only do you learn faster, but you also learn the proper technique. That’s how I was able to finally apply what I was learning in class on the social dance floor. Before taking privates, I could only dance salsa if my partner knew what the move would be in advance. Thanks to Josie’s personalized attention that’s no longer a problem. Josie’s rates for privates are very reasonable and I’m convinced that you save both time and money by going the private lesson route.
Josie has developed a 6 point formula for teaching salsa. I have no doubt that it is the best way to approach salsa that exists. The formula gives you usable patterns that look great. No more leading multiple basics and cross body leads while trying to think of the next move. You just use Josie’s formula and you get through every dance looking like a pro!

Latin dancing could be really challenging if you keep repeating the same small mistake over and over. This is why I’m so grateful to have taken Josie’s group and private lessons. Her private lessons where super helpful, and really helped me take my dancing to the next level! It’s really important to fine tune and make sure you get it right. Josie’s teaching will help you find those small things and make those adjustments that make the difference. Her expertise and passion for Latin dance will motivate you and help you develop the confidence you need, if it’s styling or technique – she’ll guide you through it all. All this and perhaps her greatest skills is doing it all while having fun and creating a climate of appreciation of the art of Latin dance! I’m one of those people who like’s learning from the best – Josie’s the gold standard! Her group lessons are good, but really her private lessons are really awesome. Josie Neglia is a great dance instructor besides been a wonderful choreographer, she has great sense of rhythm and a mountain of patience, especially to the beginner’s, she can spot the weaknesses of the new students and gives the needed encouragement to continue, even to those of us with two left feet .I have been taking her classes for a year and a half not continously due to my work travels but every time am in town I go as much as I can, she infuses enough confidence on you that am no longer intimidated when I go to the Salsa clubes.
Also her rates are quite reasonable so you know you are not taken to the cleaners when you learning, by the way she is very pretty too and extra bonus !

I have been taking Josie’s classes for over 4 years. She has something for everyone. If you are a beginner, she is very patient and understanding if you are more advanced or the type who wants to learn some cool moves fast she is your source.
Her academy also host 3 hour cruises and dance events for singles and couples.

How it all began:
I first saw Josie competing at the Mayan in Los Angeles. When I saw her dance, I thought, «I am going to learn this dance (salsa).» That same night I found a flyer that was selling salsa instructional videos. I called the next day and the person over the phone also suggested the salsa group class.
I decided to go to the class and when I arrived I realized the instructor was also the person who impressed me at the competition. I soon became a regular in her class. This experience changed my life forever. Not only did I learn how to salsa dance but I also met some of my closest friends in her class. True story!
Josie as an instructor:
Throughout the years, I have always referred new students to Josie. Why? Because not only can she dance really well but also because when Josie teaches she does it from the perspective of the student. In other words, she knows she’s an expert but she understands her students are not. This is a concept that many instructors do not get. As a result, Josie is able to break the steps down in a manner that really helps the students understand. She also gives great tips that mostly people who have studied various forms of dance can explain.
Josie as a human being:
Besides her great teaching and dance skills, Josie is also a very friendly, compassionate, sweet, and kind human being. Therefore, I can assure you that when you take Josie’s classes, in return you will obtain dance experience, physical activity, new friendships, and lots of joy :)

Josie Neglia is widely recognized as one the best Salsa/​Latin Dance instructors, performers and choreographers in Los Angeles. Josie is also one the the creators of the very innovative and creative «LA Salsa Style On 1» which has garnered World Wide fame and accolades. Josie was also the first to produce and distribute Salsa/​Latin Dance DVD’s of which hundreds of thousands have been purchased by Latin Dance enthusiasts both nationally and internationally.
I recently attended and performed at the 2014 Los Angeles Salsa Festival and during a seminar given by Tito Ortos of Puerto Rico (one of the best Latin Dancers in the World), he prominently featured Josie as being among the most important dancers/​instructors in the modern history of Salsa/​Latin Dance.
In addition to being a great instructor, performer and choreographer, Josie is also a very intelligent, energetic, charismatic and caring person and she has a Bachelor’s Degree in Dance.
As one of her students, I have gone on to perform at various venues in the Los Angeles area – they include Granada, Steven’s Steakhouse, LA Salsa Festival, Oxnard Salsa Congress, LA Bachata Congress, Monsoon and Borderline.
I will also be performing in Palm Springs in a few weeks with a World Champion Latin Dancer as my partner.

We came Josie’s Dance Academy was for a choreographed first dance for our upcoming wedding. Both my fiancé and I were a bit nervous because we’ve never taken part in any formal dance lessons as adults.
We didn’t know what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised by her dance skills, her ability to adapt dance and make it accessible for non-​dancers like us! She was very professional, and made us feel at ease under her dance instruction. She also was very accommodating to our busy schedules and was able to coordinate times for us to practice.
I would highly recommend her to any and all. Be sure to bring some type of video recording camera so you could see how much you improve over time.

Josie taught me more in 15 minutes then my last instructor did in three months. She is an effective communicator and knows what she is doing. I was absolutely blown away with her skill in dancing and the knowledge to back it up. I presently live in Scottsdale, Arizona and without a doubt can comfortably say– no one in this state comes close to her talent. I wish I lived in LA because I would be at her studio all the time. She will not waste your time, or your money. No matter your skill level, giver her a call and she will point you in the right direction.

Josie will get you on the dance floor in no time with her fun classes. If you are a total beginner or think you have two left feet, have no fear. Josie has years of experience and patience. Josie knows you want to get dancing and she provides fast results in her fun-​filled class.
For the more seasoned dancers, Josie will teach you new moves to show off in the clubs. I take cha cha, bachata and salsa in her East LA studio on Saturdays.
She also offers semi-​private lessons in her long beach studio which are amazing. I did them for a month, but the LA traffic was more than I could handle as I was commuting from the west side.
