Jordan David Starr Senior High School

If you’ve never been to this school then you must obviously heard a few bad things about it and automatically made up your mind based on biased opinions.
But if you went to this school then you probably made the best 4 years of your life well worth the memories and fun events that went on. Homecoming night was always fun and everyone looked forward to the pep rallies and events on campus. Despite of the rumors, I’m proud to be a JHS Alumni.
And of course, JHS is the ONLY international Baccalaureate high school in the district.

Where are you at!

This review is only for the swimming pool at Jordan High.
During the summer time, this high school pool opens up for public use. For summer 2015, every Tuesday & Thursday from 11 – 11:50 AM, there is a water exercise class that is free for seniors. My parents enjoy the class very much and I would swim laps ($ 3) while they do the class. The only downside is that they don’t open up the locker room for public use. When I went, the deep end was mostly empty with a few kids playing around. I was one of the few people doing laps and I easily had my own lane. I used to swim at King Pool near LBCC PCH but it gets pretty crowded so I prefer this location more. Lap swim is available Mon-​Fri 10 AM — 1 PM.

Review is only for the auditorium as we went to watch an Indian show there. The auditorium is huge and acoustics is also goes. Nice seating arrangements. Restrooms on either side of the entrance.

Panthers at Sea program is at risk. LB has attached fees to park the boats. No response from the city on how we can work out something for the students.
Someone out there certainly has some pull to wave these fees and get the kids out for a day on the water?

OK, the knock on this high school is that it’s in North Long Beach.
Across the street from this high school is a bunch load of «SECTION 8 HOUSING APARTMENTS» bunched together back to back to back
Gangs are the norm in this area. If there isn’t a shooting at the park next to this high school, than it was a «good day».
I’ve heard they got that excellent Principal from Poly who just took over a year ago. Give him time to see if he can turn this ship around.
Before he became Principal, the prior Principals allowed «grade inflation» or «grade flubbing» by the Principals to the Teachers to make sure not all students «FAIL» the class.
Teachers had to «grade on a curve» which is what grade inflation is essentially.
Those students that got an «A» should essentially be getting a «C».
So students who show up to class without doing their homework or passing the exams, should still be given a «C» Average for showing up to class.
I didn’t realize you can just get a «C» for just showing up to class. Don’t you have to earn it??? Isn’t that just «entitlement» to something you did not earned???
What’s that suppose to teach them? That in real life, they can do the same thing too? That people should just give you a job because you think you qualified for it?
Try starting a business and then get back to me on that.
Again, students that should be «flunking out» are getting «C» by showing up to class unprepared, not taking notes, not doing their homework, and unable to write a 2 page essay without using the internet to plagiarized it.
I got this information from a teacher that teaches here. He/​She tells me that the prior Principals were always breathing down their necks to pass these students and not failed them.

Loved the high-​school years 03 – 07 is «No Neck» still their always screaming at people «weres your ID» great teachers forget the rumors you hear about it being a bad school sure u got some rotten apples but what’s school didn’t.

You’ll never really know a school unless you attend it yourself.
Especially Jordan, you always here the bad stuff that the media puts out or rumors that seems to spread like wildfire, but honestly It really isn’t as bad as you think.
Sure the school spirit could be a little bit higher, and more participation in school events. but what school doesn’t have these on going problems?
Jordan is really changing its ways. It’s getting better everyday, just this year (2010) more students are getting accepted into top UC’s like UCLA than Long Beach Poly. This school only seems bad because of the rumors.
I like Jordan for several reasons
1) It has a different SLC (small learning community) for almost every interest, such as: Business, Architecture, Performing arts, etc.
2) We have such a diverse population
3) Our principles (Mr. Jimenez & Mrs. Morgan) show so much dedication and support for Jordan
… and I could go on for days
We probably try the hardest out of all the LBUSD schools to show how better we’re getting, so that this «bad reputation» could fall apart.
