Johnny gives you the option of getting a used part (less money) or a new part. I have a ’95 Honda Accord so I went with a used part. Johnny gave me a 3 month warranty on the part & the labor was very reasonable. As long as I have Honda cars, I will only go here.

John and his wife Sue run the best independent Honda and Acura repair shop in Long Beach. I have been taking my Acura, Honda and Toyota care there for fifteen years. John is factory Acura Honda trained but also does some other Japanese models as well.
They are always honest and ethical in their dealings, giving you the option to choose factory or quality aftermarket parts. They will steer you away from bad aftermarket parts even if you insist on it because they know you will have problems faster and that will reflect on him.

Could not figure out what was wrong with my brothers car. So called integra specialist. Do not recommend going here.

I had been going to many mechanics including HONDA after thousands of dollars spent collectively not any of them diagnose the «real» problem and kept giving me the run around. After some Unilocal researching I called Independent Honda in and spoke to Sue who was very nice told me to bring in my car, as soon as I did they helped me right away. John was very nice and diagnosed my issue in less than 20 minutes. I mean the news wasn’t great, my car needs a new valve or motor which runs about $ 2K but even then they were kind enough to start calling and checking for prices. I’m so glad I went here, simply honest and professional which apparently now a days it’s so hard to find anywhere else. I’ll definitely be going back here in the future.

I went here for an oil change, expecting better service than at the dealership. The wife kept leaving the office to yell at her husband, «Don’t forget the oil change,» as he was out in the garage helping his relative, not performing work for a customer. After at least a half hour, he got to the oil change and told me that my car (2006 Honda Civic) would only last me another couple of miles because some of the clamps were rusty. The bill was higher than the dealership charges and they include a multi-​point inspection. This guy included a multi-​oil all over my car at no extra charge. The $ 32 oil change cost me another $ 5 for a car wash down the road. I was going to go back for brake pads, but he was going to charge me more than the Honda dealership. I stick to the dealership unless I find better out there.

John is a stand up guy. I had brought in a Nissan Sentra that I had just purchased off of Craigslist, luckily John gave it to me straight and told me that it would take just about the price I paid for the car in order to get in smog ready. So I was fortunate enough to get my money back pronto. Not many of us have that «mechanic friend» to take with us when shopping but thanks to John I avoided a headache and ended up investing in an Honda instead.

Yesterday I took my car here with a list of recommendations from the dealer. After reviewing the list with me, we then checked the owners manual. It seems the dealers recommendations were based on severe use i.e. taxi, police, constant towing, etc. We determined what was truly needed and what could wait. Brakes on all around including turning rotors, in about two hours. Very clean shop, office and grounds. I will be back and will let my friends know to trust their judgement and work.

Just had my rotors and brake pads replaced.
Pretty straight-​forward. My brakes were grinding and I knew the pads were shot, and figured the rotors were damaged as well. This was the case. I rolled in without an appointment and my car was immediately inspected. They did not have the necessary parts on hand, but ordered them and had them delivered momentarily (seriously, like within an hour). They quickly replaced the worn parts and had everything back in order in no time.
No one tried to upsell me and I was provided choice of parts — OEM or after-​market.
The best part of the visit was the conversation with the woman working in the office. She was super pleasant. As for a negative, I would say that the total bill ran a bit higher than I anticipated ($ 280ish, when I was hoping for $ 225), but the enjoyable experience and peace of mind that comes with a job well done are worth extra expense.
I chose this mechanic because of the positive reviews here so I hope to contribute to that for some future Unilocal visitor. I plan to make this my go-​to shop for any future repairs.

I’ve been there twice now. The first time I went there because I didn’t pass the smog test, the dealer in Cerritos wanted over $ 400, Johnnie was $ 160 for the same work. Not only nice and professional, but took me ahead of an overnight job and fixed it quickly.
Now I’ve had my front brakes done and some minor work. Good value, service and I was there at the right time again and didn’t have a long wait. Usually there’s a steady flow of repairs, so a drop off might be needed, but not so far.
I had the choice of Honda brakes or cheap aftermarket. I chose Honda. This garage saves money and gives assurance of quality.

Over the last 4 or 5 years, I and family members have taken six different cars in for repair or maintenance. Always satisfied that we received an honest appraisal of any problem, expert service, and at a fair price.

I was a loyal customer of a different auto shop in the area for about 4 years until the owner (who will not be named) gave me the worst service I’ve experienced at an auto shop. He was obviously rude and extremely condescending. I haven’t cheated on you in 4 years! What happened man? I thought we were cool… Also one of his noob mechanics screwed up an oil change… come on.
Anyway, those people are the past, John and Sue are the future for me! They provide consistent, quality service at a fair price. Also John knows pretty much everything about Japanese cars. You’ve secured my loyalty.

John is a legit and honest mechanic, which we all know is difficult to come by these days. Been going here since I moved to LB in 2009 and have never had an issue with the service or his prices. I can only imagine the type of customer who would rate this place 1 star, the type of customer with that «customer is always right» mentality. Guess what… the customer is usually wrong, and an arshole.

I am a customer of Sue & John. They do great work at reasonable prices. I had them rebuild my 2003 Honda CRV transmission and put in a catalytic converter for me. Honest folks. I highly recommend them.

I brought in a 99 Acura for scheduled (I thought) service but they said it wasn’t time for it. They turned down work by being honest. Later they did emergency radiator repair quickly and inexpensively. Now they are quickly replacing an oxygen sensor and getting us back on the road for an appointment. We live on Catalina and keep our car in long beach so car work is problematic. They are honest, do good work at a reasonable price and besides, Jon and Sue are nice people. I absolutely recommend them!

I’ve been a customer of John and Sue for seven going on eight years! They have taken care of my last three Honda’s thoroughly and professionally. John has fixed a number off issues with my car, while providing me the best options for my budget and safety. The estimates are very reasonable and versatile, while maintaining the highest standards of automotive integrity. Over the years and three different Honda’s I’v had head gasket replacement, radiator replacements, break services, oil changes, engine repairs, and more; Also, EVERY single service I have had done didn’t require any follow ups due to the quality of the parts and labor performed. John and Sue even came in on a Saturday, after 5 pm, to do a much needed service to my car because I wasn’t able to come during the week. Aside from the professional service. John and Sue are very welcoming and engaging, the shop area and office are always VERY clean and organized, and the other mechanics are very friendly as well. I have been referring my family and friends to this shop for years with similar stories… I wouldn’t trust any other person other than John with the care of my Honda. I am very glad that I went to this place back in 2006 and haven’t had the need to go to any other shop since then. Once again if your looking for a place that repairs import cars, while maintaining integrity, and providing clean service and reasonable prices. I’ve been going to this shop for over 5 years. I bring my 94′ honda civic here all the time. The owner John is a good guy. He’s honest the work is reliable, and his prices are fair. His wife is very nice as well. If you know what you need repaired, or not he is an excellent choice.

The last time I visited this shop, it was clean, the prices were cheap and they do a decent job for the most part.
However, I don’t think any of these mechanics are certified. For simple things like oil changes and other small stuff, you shouldn’t have any problems with them working on it.
Like all mechanics shops, you just have to be knowledgeable and know what to look out for when dealing with them. They are in the business to make money. Just like the dealerships, they will do whatever it takes to make the most money possible. From upselling or complete bs work.
I know the owner and his wife, they pretend to be your friend but remember, money comes first when it comes to business.
Also, when the owner is working on your car, he sometimes ask YOU to help him. LOL. What are we paying him for again? Do we get a discount for helping?
I had my front brake replaced here once and he needed help bleeding the lines. Guess who was the one stepping on the brakes for him.
I use to come here a lot but since I’ve gotten a new car, I take my car to the stealership. Both have their ups and down.

I brought my 1996 vtec Acura integra there from 2003 to 2006. Loved the place. Mom, pop, and cousin. All very friendly, very fair, good businessman. Explains what he wants to do, shows you what is happening. i appreciate that since i am pretty clueless about cars.
The dealer wanted to charge a fortune so I shopped around. This place, and John in particular took care of all kinds of things to do with the car, and I never needed to go anywhere else. Electrical with windows, head gasket resurfacing, oil changes, air filter changes, radiator crack (from a wreck), and regular servicing.
I have recommended them to my family.

The ONLY place we take our Hondas! I wouldn’t even consider going somewhere else.
We have 2 old Hondas and I depend on them for everything, and they are always accommodating, fast, and fair. Oil changes, windows fixed, mirrors installed, my transmission blows up… etc I call them up and they are like «come on over, we’ll take care of you.» They are fair and honest. I just want to know if something really needs replacing, if it’s unsafe, or if I can just leave it. They give you options to fit your budget.
I live 5 minutes from them, which is so awesome! but I would drive an hour if I had to. I am going to drive my old Civic into the ground and I know I can do so safely now. :) Our old Hondas appreciate the care and when we get newer cars (which will probably be Hondas too), we will still come to John and Sue for everything.
