Great sandwiches at a resonable price. A go to place you can count on. We like the meatball sandwich with provolone and the hot ham and cheese on fresh baked rolls. Been going for years and finally giving a review.

Delicious sandwiches and good service. My bosses love to order from here for pickup. Unfortunately, it’s a crapshoot on who answers the phone to take your order. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. The only thing I despise about picking up lunch from here is that they only have a soda fountain — no bottled drinks. Oh, and the meatball sub is to die for. Absolutely delicious.

This place is good, I have been here a couple times over the years and have finally gotten around to writing a review for them. At first I was confused because I would order their meatball sandwich expecting it to taste like Subway’s but it tastes different. I would be disappointed yet order it again upon the next visit. After a while I realized it tastes good. Their wheat bread is good. Their meatball sandwich has a less sweet tasting marina sauce but is still good. I would go back here. I should try a different type of sandwich. They also have a «People on Unilocal Love Us» sticker on the front door.

You know how every city has the«Best Sandwich Shop Ever»? Well, I’m not here to claim that Hector’s is the best ever, but in terms of Long Beach and discounting the chains like Togo’s, it’s up there. Not a whole lot to say about it other than order your favorite sandwich and figure it out. I do have two gripes about Hectors though, it seems a little on the expensive side for cold cut sandwiches. Also, they may have changed this but the bread can be super crispy, making it a possibility to «cut your roof». I usually leave her with the top of my mouth a bit irritated. Overall, great sandwiches if you can’t stand subway and want to support a local joint.

I use to think this place had amazing sandwich ‘s not anymore. The bread taste like day old bread, the sandwich maker had no clue what double turkey meant and the best part was my girlfriends sandwich, I thought she just ordered a veggie sandwich, turns out she ordered the ” avacado lover” sandwich. Hmmmmm… doesn’t the word lover mean u LOVE avacado? Why such a tiny piece of ‘avacado? Won’t step foot in that dive again!

Ah Hector. We been homies for a while now, and as long as you keep making me awesome and simple sandwiches, we’ll stay that way. I’m sorry that I haven’t visited you in a while, but don’t fret, I still think about you periodically. it’s just that… oh, I don’t know how to say this, but I’ve found someone named Angelo. He owns a deli on 2nd street, and between Angelo, Foggia, and this barn that has milk, I’ve just been stretched a bit too thin. I’ll come visit again some day though… promise.

man back in the day this was the spot… and for good reason. The bread was bomb the sandwichs were top notch and the service was great. Now the bread sucks(they changed the recipe) and the service is the worst. Sometimes I think they are brain dead… they always seem like its a bother to make it and they ask what you want on your sandwich and when you tell them«everything» they still say«is that all» after placing each ingredient on it. We have even tried to circumvent the whole ordering experience by trying to do phone orders multiple times… but alas when we go to pick our previously ordered sandwiches up they are never made and you have to still wait to have it made. I hope Hector gets rid of the cancerous employees that they have as I for one will never go back.

Three and a half stars. Hector’s makes a good, solid sub. Nice fresh bread and ingredients. The service can be spotty and not usually the friendliest. I guess that can be due to going there always at lunch time when it’s packed but I often feel like I’m bothering them. They aren’t overtly rude — just a little stand-offish. The good thing is that even though they’re swamped at lunch time, they still manage to move the line along fairly quickly. A tip: If you go at the noon hour, NEVER enter the parking lot from the Los Coyotes side. There’s an In-and-Out on that side that always has a gigantic line in the drive thru at that time that snakes around and blocks up the lot. I made the mistake of entering from there once and got stuck for almost ten minutes as the line slowly moved and all the other cars that were trying to negotiate the area untangled themselves from the mess. Go around instead and come in on the Ximeno side.

I love Hectors, not quite as good as the O.G. Subs ‘R’ Us in S.P. but that’s only because they are so darn stingy on the extras, I’m paying a whole dollar extra to add some avocado and I swear every time they use about an eighth of the whole avacado, come on now. Once I was there and one of the girls making the sandwiches had ring around the sleeve… eewwww gross(I’d give her 1 star), all I gotta say is good thing they wear gloves, haha, just make sure you don’t get her makin your sandwich! Recomendations: Italiano, tuna, and extra vinegar on everything!

Oh Hector’s, how I remember your status of 4 stars — it was all in the service. The employees made your sandwich so carefully, like they were preparing their own lunch. They would even cut the already thin bell pepper slices in half to ensure that they didn’t hang out of the bread. There’s nothing like putting a perfectly built sandwich in your mouth. Fast forward to now: The employees seem aloof, like they’re being forced to do their job. They ALWAYS put too much mayo even when I ask for light, and the toppings are always unevenly distributed(big no-no for me.) Otherwise, the bread is amazing, meat is fresh, and although they don’t put as much meat as other places, the sandwich is always pleasing. I suggest one of the four specials listed on the glass, they are quite the bargain! 6.49 for a large sandwich with chips and drink. If only 4-star Hector’s could come back.

A really really really good sandwich! I’ll keep it simple– a better than average sandwich shop. Good selection of meats and toppings– I’m a big fan of the hickory turkey. The bread is the real winner here– fresh baked with a unique taste. It soars past subway and any other disgusting type sandwich chain. I would love to give Hector’s five stars, but just can’t because of the employees. I don’t mind that they’re slow, but they’re unfriendly and don’t seem to really enjoying listening to you as you specify your sandwich options(which, you know, can be a problem when you say no to something and they just add it anyways because they weren’t really listening in the first place.) I avoid Hector’s during it’s busy lunch period because that’s when the employees seem to shine the least. If they’re not busy, they can concentrate harder and usually knock out a pretty tasty sandwich. Even with the helpfully challenged employees, the sandwichs are good enough to easily recommend.

Pass. I went to Hector’s in hopes of finding a sandwich place that offered more than the local chain restaurants. Great customer service, tasty sandwiches, or good prices are what I had in mind; Hector’s did not deliver. The customer service wasn’t very impressive, not so much as a «hey», or smile, and the service was slow. It wasn’t busy. As some other reviews mentioned, the sandwich was surprisingly bland, and the«freshness» and«tastyness» that I read about in other reviews that had me excited were nowhere to be found. For the prices, taste, and service…(I never thought I’d say this)…I’d rather go to Subway D: !!

I actually stopped by here on a lunch break from my appointments on a whim. I saw the $ 5.99 meatball sub special and had to go in. I’m glad I went in… Hector’s has one of the better meatball subs that I’ve ever tasted, and I’m not even a fan of meatball subs! I’ll know where to stop whenever I have appointments around the area…

If you love a good hoagie but are bored with subway/quiznos/togos, then you MUST try Hector’s. Only white and wheat bread, but it’s baked fresh all day and produce is always crisp. The California Chicken sandwich is the menu’s MVP, featuring bacon and avocado. They also have one of the best Meatball subs in LB(the other being Deli News on Stearns). The order line can get pretty long during the lunch rush. Recommends: california chicken or turkey, meatball sub, combo #2

Yep, they’ve gone downhill! I went here again today on my lunch break(30 mins) and I order. I get told the wheat bread takes 10 or so minutes to cook, and I had to practically yell because the girl was already on her way to the back after telling me that. Ooookay. Got a California Chicken, and considering it had chicken, avocado, and bacon, it was actually quite tasteless. The avocados were not ripe at all, the chicken was chewy(as in cooked and then reheated), and the bacon didn’t taste like bacon(how this is possible, I don’t know!). She also offered oil and vinegar three times, once on the bread, again in the middle, and again at the end? Um, no thanks. The bread was also stale and hard on top. My bad for noticing the cracks when she cut it and not saying anything. Again, this girl was slllloooooow just like the last one. I was in there for a good 15 minutes, so by the time I got back to work I had to wolf down my lunch in my car as quickly as I could. This wouldn’t annoy me as much usually, but I was in a rush because my work is strict about meal breaks. Oh, and I got a drink and turned around and noticed there were no cup lids, but there was also no employees to be found. They were also lacking on a lot of other things like straws. Very nice guys! Will not be returning after this one. I’ll trek my way over to Subway. At least they’re fast!

I love Hector’s sandwiches. Yum. Their specialty sandwiches are very tasty. And they don’t drown my sandwich in mustard like every single Subway I go to. My only complaint is the bread — I wish it was softer and bigger.

This place sucks ASS, and not in a good way. Anytime you can hear the bread as it is being sliced… not a sign of fresh bread. Yep… I should have walked out at that point, but I was low and needed some food fast. They don’t have as many condiment options as Subway, are pricier that Subway, and the sandwich is smaller than Subway. With what options they do have, they are more than skimpy. I had to ask for more red onions… the chick only gave me something that looked like a piece of thread, rather than an onion sliver. They don’t even have spinach! No olives, no feta… not shit. The bread is smaller, harder more tubular than subway, reminiscent of a dick. I can get way better dick than this without paying for it. Minus zero stars. This is what I get for going off course and trying a new spot. I am severely dissapointed at this joint.

Here’s a riddle for you: What looks like a Subway, tastes like a Subway, and pretty much IS a Subway? answer: Hector’s! I will admit their bread is better and the meat is not gray and scary, but I just was not all that impressed. With so many great delis in Long Beach, they just did not measure up. On top of all this, they are kind of pricey for what you get. I guess I’ve become a… *gasp* …sandwich snob! Maybe they can get a chubby guy with glasses named«Gerald» to be their spokesperson.
