My 73-year-old mother continues on her journey to heal from her hip replacement surgery she had October of last year and her knee replacement surgery she had the end of March this year. The vendor she was referred to for getting a knee brace fitted was Hanger Orthopedic Group. The first time I took my mother here, we didn’t realize that their office building was located on the campus of St. Mary Medical Center. It was hard to figure out how to get inside the complex because it’s fenced all around, so we ended up calling the office. We were instructed to enter the hospital campus from 10th Street and take a ticket from the entrance gate since parking isn’t free. [sigh!] I can see why St. Mary Medical Center and other buildings on the campus are all fenced in – the neighborhood surrounding the hospital isn’t exactly the nicest and lots of street people are constantly walking around the sidewalks outside the hospital grounds. The office itself is very clean and pleasant. The ladies working behind the reception desk are very warm and friendly. My mother told me that the orthopedic technician she dealt with, Rodney J., was very kind and helpful, and more than happy to listen to her concerns and answer any questions she had. As far as I could tell, there were two or three ladies working behind the front desk and two technicians who actually deal with the patients in getting their orthopedic or prosthetic devices fitted. I’ve taken my mother back to this facility a few more times since the first visit, and each time the office and technical staff have always treated us very well. Even though this office is located farther than she’d like, my mother is happy that her orthopedic surgeon referred her here, and so am I.
