Fantastic Four Pet Care

My friend Kathie has a 17-​year-​old feline child, Sami, who was just diagnosed with stage 3 kidney disease. As such, Sami requires subcutaneous fluid infused twice a week. Part of the process is inserting a large-​bore needle into the space just under the skin in the area between the kitty’s shoulder blades. Kathie is TERRIFIED of safety pins, much less large-​bore needles. So, Kathie asked me for help with her Sami.
I am a nurse by training. A nurse for humans. Sticking needles into people is not a big deal for me. I kinda enjoy it. But animals? Uhhhhh, not too comfortable with that. For one, I am a dog person. Cats, I tolerate. But I love Kathie, so I agreed to take a «stab» at it… haha.
Kathie brought her Sami over to my house. And stab I did. And jab. Unsuccessfully. Mind you, there were three of us trying to get this done. One to hold the cat, one to insert the needle, and one to give the fluids. We failed. EPICALLY. I ended up calling my crazy cat lady neighbor (everyone has one of those, right??!), who single-​handedly took Sami, inserted and secured the needle, and ran the fluids. Crazy cat lady saved the day!
Only thing is I live in Santa Ana. Kathie lives in Long Beach. We live different lives, and rarely do our days intersect unless there’s a family gathering of some sort, which is pretty much quarterly. Doing this twice a week just didn’t seem feasible.
Second time we attempted to give Sami fluids, Kathie psyched herself up to try and put the needle in. She tried… she really tried. But the needle kept bouncing or slipping off. I attempted to do it, got the needle in, and got some fluids infused before Sami decided she had enough and managed to get the needle dislodged.
After that, we got to some pondering. Going to the vet to have this done was out of the question… it just wasn’t in the budget. The meds alone cost a pretty penny. Kathie didn’t have any crazy cat lady neighbors, because she IS the crazy cat lady neighbor. We didn’t feel comfortable asking one of the vet techs to «do it on the side». I’d rather vaccinate an anti-​vaxxer than go through this ordeal on a regular basis (sorry Kathie). Then I thought, «CRAIGSLIST»!
I whipped out my phone and searched for pet care in Long Beach. Tons of pet sitters, walkers (not zombies), rug cleaners (LOL!). The one that stood out: FANTASTIC FOUR PET CARE! Nerd alert: I sometimes read comic books. And I love superhero movies. So a business with that name, I’m damn well clicking on it.
Reading Cass’ ad was like an answered prayer. Key words: medication administration, home visits, Long Beach location! YESSSSS! HAAAAAALLELUJAH!
Kathie called Cass from my phone, and left a super-​long detailed message, including two contact numbers. I also texted Cass to call Kathie, listing Kathie’s cell number, just to add to the confusion. Cass replied to us both in an hour.
Arrangements were made to meet for the next fluid infusion. Cass showed up on time, her services affordable, and handled Sami (and cat mom) wonderfully… plus she’s THREE blocks from Kathie. Things went so well, Kathie arranged to have Cass’ services twice a week from then on out.

Fantastic Four Pet Care is a fantastic service. I use them two times a week to walk my dogs while I am away at work. They are professional and do a great job. My two dogs LOVE their walks and I am happy that I have someone who is caring and reliable to take them out while I am away.
