Walked out after waiting 1 & ½ hours without seeing Doctor. Ridiculous wait and complete lack of respect for patients.

Dr. Anne Freeman is the best! Ive been her patient for years and followed her from her previous location in Los Alamitos to Eye Physicians of Long Beach. She’s very thorough and a really great optometrist.
And Oscar in the optical department is fantastic. He took the time to show me a bunch of frames for my new Rx sunglasses and I ended up going with the ones he said looked the nicest. I appreciate that he was very honest when giving me his opinion. I picked them up yesterday and I have to say they look amazing. Thanks, Oscar!

This is my first review on Unilocal.I have been seeing Dr. Donovan for almost 10 years. He is fantastic, patient, kind, super knowledgeable, and professional. His staff is very patient and kind as well. They take time explaining what your insurance will pay for. It’s rare to find an office that has great customer service. I have been very happy with the service from the front desk to the optometry techs who help you pick out the perfect glasses suited for you.

Dr Hertzog and his office staff were amazing. There were a few patients in front of me when I arrived and I thought the wait time might be long but everyone was called in relatively fast. I was able to make an appointment the previous day for my FAA physical exam and they treated me as if I had been a customer for many years. The service was exceptional and I would recommend his office to anyone that is looking for a fast and hassle free physical.
Thank you for providing excellent service. I wish more doctor offices were like yours.

I had been wearing glasses since I was 8 (25 now) and I got LASIK done in February with Dr. Donovan. I love this place! Dr. Donovan is amazing! He is kind, professional, explains everything and makes you feel at ease. All the staff is welcoming! The nurse was wonderful when I got my surgery done. I forget her name :(but she made me feel less anxious (I was really nervous lol). And all the staff remembers you so it’s a really nice environment.
I now have ²⁰⁄₂₀ vision and am so happy that I came here for LASIK! I recommend this place t everyone who wants to get LASIK done. They also work with you if you want to pay with credit or in parts.
All in all, a great place. :)

I don’t understand the bad reviews for this place. I agree that the wait time for a standard appointment can sometimes be longer than desired (think hours), but after being squeezed in for an «emergency» visit this week I am a little more sympathetic to this. The front office staff are very nice, and they got me a same day appointment for an urgent eye concern. I came to see my usual doctor, Dr. Chang, and he referred me to the corneal specialist, Dr. Hertzog, to take a closer look at my issue. He prescribed some medicines and asked me to come back the next day so he could be sure it was clearing up. That’s three last-​minute appointments! I feel like I received excellent care (I’ve always felt this way here), and now I’ll be a little more patient of the wait times knowing that they’re probably squeezing in some last-​minute urgent folks.

I had a terrible experience. I work in a hospital so I am very familiar with the behind the scenes of healthcare. Some of the staff were nice, but not all. The wait time was ridiculous. When I brought this up, one of the staff members became defensive and stated that the eye clinic they merged with are the same. This is absolutely not the case. My appointment took 1 hr 45 minutes. Completely unacceptable. This is what happens when a clinic over-​books appointments and cannot manage their time efficiently. Dr Freeman is very sweet and will make you feel comfortable and will answer all questions. I unfortunately did not see her today. She would’ve made the experience a little more tolerable. I recommend you going somewhere else. I saw a comment on their webpage about Walmart having better customer service. This is unfortunately true. If you are paying for insurance, be choosy about your physicians. I would not recommend Eye Physicians of Long Beach.

I don’t understand the negative reviews either. I visited this office yesterday for the first time for a troubling and frightening eye issue. During that appointment the office staff was extremely proficient (and pleasant) and the tech who assisted me prior to seeing the doctor was awesome — made me laugh even though I was scared to death. Dr. Chang was genuine and extremely personable. He took his time to explain what was going on with my eye and what he was doing every step of the way. My appointment was for 8:05 and I was out of there by 8:50 which included filling out all of the new patient paperwork as well as the exam. I will definitely go back to this facility and should I need an Ophthalmologist again in the future, Dr. Chang will be the doctor.

I just saw Dr. Chang at this facility as a new patient. My appointment was at 2:10 and I was out at 2:50, no waiting at all. He was very personable and the other staff were nice too. I’ll definitely go back if I need to in the future.

I don’t know why there were are so many complaints about Eye Physicians of Long Beach. I recently had laser assisted cataract surgery on both eyes performed by Dr. Serafano. I had complications of eye pressure on both eyes. Dr. Serafano fixed the problems quickly and successfully. No one has complained about the doctors in this group. I did not have problems with the office or the office staff. I never had to wait more then ten minutes to see the doctor. Parking was convenient. The office staff and the nursing staff were all friendly, professional, and competent. I would highly recommend this group to anyone.

Lobby entirely TOO small. Waited 2 hours past appointment time!!! Arrived early for appointment. Staff pleasant but truly do not care how long you wait.

This office is a factory. The first time I went every seat was filled, 5 people standing and another 4 standing outside. 45 minutes later I still hadn’t seen anyone or been called. I had another appointment and rescheduled for the 1^st appointment-2.5 months away. Again, I waited 45 minutes. This was for a routine Medicare glaucoma screening. They charged my Medical insurance $ 300+ and had the nerve to charge me a $ 30 co pay. I will NEVER return to this office. Their rates are highway robbery, staff and doctors are rude.

Unfortunately my husband happens to be one of the patients which probably caused a major back-​up in Dr Hertzogs schedule. The first time we were seen was on an immediate needs to be seen basis. We were referred by our optometrist who believed he had a severe infection. Several tests later it was determined he had had an occular stroke. We had been added to his schedule and over the course of the morning had several tests and had to be referred to a retina specialist. We are now finishing with a several month ordeal in which he has been diagnosed with several problems and referred to the correct MD. We have been treated well both at the front desk and by Dr Hertzogs tech. My husband has had two cataract surgeries
And both Dr Hertzog and the laser tech were more than capable. We too have waited in the waiting room but if you take a look around you will see many people in this waiting room who need more than a minute of time. I feel blessed to have found such an excellent physician and staff and I Thank them one and all.

Unfortunately my eye doctor, Lars Hertzog, moved into this practice. I think he is great but the office staff are completely incompetent. After 40 minutes of paperwork they couldn’t find my insurance. I finally just walked out and I won’t be back. I hope Lars decides to find a better group other wise he has lost me too.

Don’t waste your time! This is the worse «doctors office» I’ve ever visited.
First you’ll be lucky to be seen within a few hours of your appointment time. I swear I think they tell all their patients for the day, to show up at 9am. Then they just slowly see each one till they’re done.
Then you get a «doctor» to tell you what you already know (and charge way too much for that). But he can’t be sure, so you’ll need to come back and waste another day, so they can make some money.
Wish I could give 0 stars. I’d rather go blind than go here.

Brought my 7 year old daughter for her first exam. When I made the appt, they requested that I arrive 15 minutes early for new patient paperwork. I did as requested. Been here for over 1 hour and still waiting to be seen. If I didn’t need this exam done, I would walk out! Can’t comment on the doctors, since we haven’t been seen yet.

I’ve always had good vision and so this is only the second time I’ve been to an optician. In general, I found Eye Physicians of Long Beach to have superior medical staff, right down to the technicians. They were friendly and made me feel very comfortable, calming any concerns about whether certain tests like the glaucoma one would hurt.
As other reviewers have mentioned, my appointment started a little late. Not too bad, though. I arrived at 3:00 for a 3:15 appointment and my appointment started at 3:30. I would like to add that many doctors I have been to run 30 – 45 minutes late. You never can tell what will happen with each patient, and if the doctor is 30 – 45 minutes late I just write that off as a sign that they are spending time with their patients. (If they are running 1 hour or more late, though, I do think the doctors owe it to their patients to have someone come out and inform patients that they are running at least 1 hour late and offer to reschedule.)
I can also say they were very honest, as they told me that although my vision wasn’t perfect, I did not need glasses. The optometrist actually only said to get some glasses because at times my eyes hurt when I look at the computer screen. Before I said that, she actually was nudging me towards not getting anything.
If only they would hire better front office help, that would make Eye Physicians the première place to go for eye care. I must say that most of my concern was with one person who checked me in. Even though I was told by my HR dept., Blue Shield, and someone else at Eye Physicians that I could self-​refer, she kept insisting that I needed a referral or that I could get charged. She also acted irritated when I did not understand what she meant by getting «fitted for contacts.» I’ve never needed any eyewear, so I haven’t purchased contacts before. Does «fitted» mean they’re going to try lenses out on me? Or does it mean they’ll write a prescription? Or both? Lastly, when I checked out I found that she had charged me inaccurately. My vision insurance covered the entire exam without charge, but my bill was written up so that I had a $ 25 co-​pay. The bill was corrected by someone else when I questioned it, but three incidents all emanating from one person – hmmmm.

I agree with previous reviews. Clinicians seem good enough however billing office lady when i called inquiring about my payment was rude and tried to make me feel incompetent.
