Description

Specialties

Blowing Up Barriers Enterprises exists to move you into the existence you have craved, yet avoided due to fear. Our novels, poetry, memoir and non-fiction document the successful survival of trauma, and we offer intuitive counseling services to those who prefer transformational work one-on-one. Our sole proprietor, Dr. Niama L. Williams, has survived more than 20 years of abuse, betrayal, and manipulation of her life. She thrives these days in halcyon Long Beach, California.

History

Established in 2012.

Upon completion of my doctorate in African American literature in May of 2006, I was burned out. I had taught as an adjunct professor since 1993. The toll terminated my academic career.

By November of 2006 I was enrolled in a FastTrac New Venture class at my local Women’s Business Development Center. The African American female professional who taught our class was incredible. After ten weeks with her, I knew for sure that I could run a business.

My main problem, as is often the case with start-ups, was funding. Fortunately, the outcome of four years of under-employment then two years of homelessness has been receipt, at long last, of Social Security Disability and a back payment that allowed me to accomplish critical activities for my company.

I am now ready to join the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce and step into the world of business properly. Watch out, Long Beach; the end of homelessness in our fair city is nigh.

Meet the Business Owner

Dr. Niama L. J. W.

Business Owner

Niama Leslie Williams, a Leeway Foundation Art & Social Change Grant recipient, and a participant in a Sable Literary Magazine/Arvon Foundation course in Shropshire, UK, possesses a doctorate in African American literature from Temple University, a bachelor’s in comparative literature from Occidental College, and a master’s in professional writing from the University of Southern California. Her creative work includes 13 titles on Lulu.com and columns for the Long Beach POST. Of her purpose for writing Dr. Williams says: «I frequently do not err on the side of caution in my writing, but I believe in the purpose of it: to speak to the things others do not want to speak of, with the hopes of reaching that one woman, or her lover, or her friend, who refuses to deal with her pain, who hides from it, who doesn’t think she’ll survive it. That’s the audience I hope to reach.»
