Denver Endocrinology Diabetes and Metabolism PC

Have been going to see Dr. Buckley for several years. She always knows my history, always has time to listen, and suggests new things when something isn’t working. I also love her assistant Gia, she’s always willing to help.

I had one appointment here and it was my first and last. All I gotta say is never again!
After reading some reviews online, I thought I would check this place out after my pcp recommend I see an endocrinologist to delve further into my blood sugar issues. It’s located in one wing of the hospital and has valet parking so I thought that was a swanky touch. When I walked in, the receptionist had major sour face going on like she had been sucking on a lemon for the past week and she really wasn’t miss sunshine. I think she set the mood for the entire visit because it went downhill from there.
I got there early and they still didn’t take me on time which was a bit annoying since I had to leave work early for the appointment. The nurse called my name, took my vitals and did the regular schpeal about why I was visiting. I told him my symptoms and what my blood results came back as from my pcp. He kept saying «So, your thyroid level is high?» and I told him no, it was normal it was my blood sugar that was high. A minute passed and he started up again about my thyroid where I had to repeat again, no, blood sugar not the thyroid. I felt like he wasn’t really listening to my concerns and what I was saying (obviously because he kept saying my thyroid when nothing is wrong with my thyroid), told me the doctor would be in shortly and left. Almost 15 minutes later, Dr. Bernard came in and just introduced herself as Jenny so I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to call her Jenny, Dr. Jenny or Dr. Bernard. She was friendly enough but again, she kept saying «So you’re here because of your thyroid?» and I was at the point I was going to bang my head against the wall because they weren’t looking at my paper work or listening to me. Along with that she seemed to be more preoccupied with writing things down than asking me how I was feeling, what’s going on, etc. I told her that my blood sugars were high and needed to know what the next steps were. She suggested medication to see how my body would react to it and if my levels would go down or not and I told her I was game since I just wanted to feel like myself again. This is where it gets weird… she told me that I would start at one pill a day but the ultimate goal was to get me on four pills a day.
Excuse me?
Isn’t the ultimate goal to get me off pills completely and back in good health? This was the tipping point that completely sent me over and left a bad taste in my mouth. I finished up my appointment, got my prescription then went to another doctor who actually listened to me and believes that I shouldn’t be on four pills a day but rather get in good enough health where I don’t need medication.
