Mangler’s Guest Ranch For Pets

We just moved to the area and Mangler’s was highly recommended to us. Since we are military, we do a lot of traveling and needed someone reliable to take care of our pups. Mangler’s has not disappointed and we know they are well taken care of while we are away. The kennels are large and Jeannine lets them out several times a day so that they aren’t using the bathroom indoors. The best part is that they are both bathed each time we pick them up!

We were in town for the Los Olivos Wine and Jazz Festival and needed a reputable place to board our two baby’s, Artie the Wonder Dog and Fearless Freckles, while we were there. We found the greatest place in Manglers Ranch For Pets. The place is on Highway 246 in the middle of the Santa Ynez Valley, a very picturesque and lovely area. Mangler’s Ranch is run by its wonderful pet-​nanny, Jeanene, a friendly super-​experienced and knowledgeable pet person. The facility is top notch with clean, modern and generous sized kennels and spacious excercize areas. They even have a Cattery if you need to board your felines. The rates are super reasonable, they are licensed and have someone on duty 24 hrs. This place put our minds at ease, leaving our pets here, and we are very picky pet people. Thanks Jeanene, your pet rancho is the absolute best.

I called this ranch and a very rude woman answered and did not even specify that she was a doggy boarding or ranch facility. I began to tell her my situation that I needed to board my dog for four days to attend a wedding out of town. I inquired to see if it would be OK to drop by the facility and leave my dog for an afternoon to help him acclimate to the place. (he is a rescue and was abused and has a lot of anxiety) I asked if she had an hourly rate. She responded rudely and stated with an attitude «I have been in business for over 54 years and we do not do afternoon visits.» She sounded very very old and very out of touch. if you read the other reviews I think this couple needs to retire and I would not trust them with my pets.

Decided to give this place a try since it was relatively cheaper compared to another kennel I’ve frequented. Both of my dogs were anxious upon pick up (we were gone for 2 weeks, so I understand why they’d be happy to finally see me). The owner/​operator seemed annoyed and even angry at times at their whining while she was walking them from the gated area to give them to me. Told them to «shut up» while I was standing in front of her. I’m thinking to myself, if this is how she behaves with the dogs with their owner witnessing, I wonder how she is without my presence?!? The owner/​operator was not at all courteous with me… as if I was inconveniencing her by picking my dogs up (even though it was still business hours and I even called ahead when my flight touched down). She seemed nice when I paid cash upfront (their policy) during the drop-​off. But oh, how things turned around. Never again with Mangler’s.

We found this «incredible» place for our 2 dogs. Not so incredible! We left them for 3 weeks (due to family emergency) and felt horrible when we got back.
They both had lost weight, (I would expect some with anxiety) were filthy dirty, (indoor kennels and rock area to play in?) and could not wait to get away from jeanene. We caught her in many lies before and after we picked them up. They are just in it for the money and don’t care about the pets they have there at all.
I wish I could give negative 5 stars!

We usually board our dog at the SB Humane Society, but for a last minute trip we found them full. Searching the web we found Mangler’s and called to find out more information. After speaking with the owner, we decided to give them a try since we didn’t want to pay $ 75+ for a pet spa nor did we want to leave him at an animal hospital. Mangler’s is located about 45 minutes from SB and Goleta and is west of Buellton. Google was wrong for us — it’s further west along Hwy. 246 on the south side of the road. The Ranch has double security fencing so your pet will be safe, large exercise yards and cozy dens. When we retrieved our dog two weeks later, ($ 20/​night) instead of his usually frazzled, dirty condition, he was sleek and happy. Clearly he had personal care and basically a good time (hard to decode his detailed trip report). We will bring him there again next time we travel. HIghly recommended!
