Specialties

Dare 2 Dream Farms specializes in raising healthy and happy chickens. A variety of breeds are always available and hens are guaranteed so you know you’ll never be stuck with a rooster. We offer free advice and information to help you get started with your own backyard chickens. We also build hand-​crafted coops and offer quality poultry supplies. We deliver to Santa Barbara County, San Luis Obispo County, Los Angeles, the Bay Area, Orange County, and San Diego County.

Our laying hens are kept using outdoor based farming on two rotating pastures grown with ryegrass, buckwheat, clover and other raw nutrients. They’re completely free range and happy as can be. Their eggs are sold through Isla Vista Food Coop, New Frontiers, Out of the Box Collective, and Local Harvest Delivery.

History

Established in 2009.

Small family farm in Lompoc, CA, that started as a labor of love and grew with the support of families, communities, groups, and individuals supporting local and humane food sources and the passion to raise backyard chickens.

Jeremy and Megan R.

Business Owner

Jeremy Raff was raised by his grandfather on the Raff Ranch in Lompoc and returned in 2008 to return the love by taking care of his grandfather, Mike Raff, and his property. Megan, a city-​girl from Los Angeles, had met Jeremy while working in San Luis Obispo and joined him in his efforts to revive the ranch. They began by cleaning up the land and starting a flock of 12 chickens to help keep his grandfather mentally and physically active and to delay his onset of dementia. Jeremy proposed atop Mt Whitney in September of 2011. They were married one year later and continue to share a love for sustainable farming, traveling, and most importantly, chickens.

Our family just got our first baby chicks to raise from D2D and we couldn’t have had a better experience! My husband received the nicest and friendliest customer service when he called to ask questions and schedule a delivery to our home in San Diego. He couldn’t speak highly enough of how nice they were in helping him. We got the call as promised on Thursday to let us know of the delivery time window for that Friday. The delivery person arrived right at 9:30am! Our delivery window was 9:30 to 11:45am, so I was really surprised at how promptly he arrived. He was also very friendly and helped up get our brood set up and answered all of our questions. The chicks have only been with us for one day so far, but they look very healthy and are eating, drinking, and pooping (a lot!) as they should be. I was also really impressed with their pricing for the brood package, as well as the very affordable delivery fee to hand deliver. I would never want to order chicks to come by mail. It seems like it would be too scary and stressful for them. I am impressed that they personally deliver, and all the way to SF down to SD. That is superb service in my book! I also love being able to support a small local family-​owned farm. Their chickens are all pasture-​raised and look loved. We are a very green-​conscious family and D2D Farms was a perfect fit for us to buy our baby chicks from. We couldn’t be happier from A to Z with this farm and its services. Highly recommend!

I drove all the way from LA to get my flock of girls here. Megan is very sweet and helpful, I was running a little late and she did not mind at all. I love the flock of girls that I got, I regret that I didn’t get more. I choose to get my chickens from here after doing research and found this to be one of the best places. My chickens are very healthy and beautiful. One of my hens has been been laying eggs for the past three weeks, can’t wait for my other two girls to start too. I definitely recommend this place. Before I placed my order for baby chicks, I sent a list of questions to D2D Farms — which were promptly answered by Hannah. Their website is amazing, and offers so much useful information to help new backyard chicken enthusiasts. Their prices are extremely reasonable: $ 35 delivery to the bay area. They have a lot of different kinds of breeds as well. After placing my order for brooder package & chick delivery, everything went as planned. Hannah was super responsive to all of my emails with loads of questions after the chicks were delivered, and even offered to deliver a replacement waterer when I thought ours was faulty (turns out it was *my* error). I’ve had a really positive experience with them, in particular, Hannah — and would recommend them to anyone looking to embark on backyard chickens.

After spending a week trying to find a local source for baby chicks, I found Dare 2 Dream on craigslist. October is not an easy time to find them where I live! D2D does weekly deliveries to the San Francisco Bay area, and they had a good variety of breeds to choose from. I called them and placed my order, they were prompt with their delivery and pleasant. I now have 6 healthy, 4 week old chicks. One of them wasn’t thriving at first and needed a little special attention, but now she’s fine and catching up with the rest of them. The only drawback IMO is the $ 35 delivery fee, but it’s still cheaper than what mail order hatcheries cost. I definitely recommend D2D if your local feed store doesn’t have chicks in stock.

One of our cute chicks turned out to be a rooster. I didn’t want to give him away to someone who was going to eat him «humanely» (as one of the nearby farms offered) or to put him in cock-​fighting (as my gardener offered), so I called D2D to inquire on other placement possibilities. She graciously agreed to pick him up for a transportation fee. Now the little cockerel is happily living with hundreds of hens back in D2D.
If you care about your pet chickens, consider getting them from D2D!

So happy we made the trip to this farm! Was looking everywhere for healthy baby chicks, and this place was amazing. I set up and appointment, and asked a million questions, and Hannah was prompt and friendly with her responses. Would gladly make the almost 2 hour treck to get chickens here again, and recommend them to anyone who asks. Well done guys, and the farm is beautiful!

Still thrilled with our birds, even more-​so actually, as we’re seeing other people’s flocks. Our chickens have filled out beautifully. They’re big and friendly and fluffy. On two different occasions, friends have commented that our chickens look so much healthier than other chickens they’ve seen. AND I routinely get four eggs in a day even though we only have three chickens! I’m not even sure how that’s possible but it really reinforces how healthy and happy the chickens are. Will definitely order for D2D Farms again.

Beautiful coop and run of high quality! Jeremy was able to outfit it with a multi-​day feeder and waterer and customize it as requested. Delivery and set up in 1 hour. He also offered advice on my poor henpecked hen as well as advice on chicken care. He and his wife are the nicest people and really seem to run a very wholesome and community-​minded farm. I highly recommend them! Patience with coop delivery is recommended – it seems they run a very low-​budget operation and do a lot of the farm management themselves so prepare to be flexible with timing. I would still buy from them again!

I dread having to write this review but after my experience I feel like people should know about my less than 5 star experience.
The bad:
1. The delivery time and day was never confirmed. I noticed I missed a call from them and called back to see if I could expect delivery but I was unable to reach anyone and my call was not returned.
2. My order was never confirmed. The breeds and ages were never confirmed. They charged me $ 130 more than I expected since my order was never confirmed it was a costly surprise for me.
3. The chickens were not healthy. Lots of the chickens had coughs and roundworms. 1 is special needs with a scissor beak
. Another is so sadly runty from roundworms that she may not live.
4. They never returned my emails and phone calls. Never ever. I found this very unprofessional and surprising since all the reviews claim they are responsive and helpful. THEY JUST TOOK MY MONEY AND RAN (like sheepish criminals sending me off with sick birds!)
5. I was polite and did not pester them about my issues. I emailed a few times and called twice. My last email requested that they simply confirm the ages so I could appropriately feed them (and help heal the sickest bird). No replies though. No help. No regard for me as a customer or care taker of chickens.
The good:
1. Hand delivered by nice people.

We have purchased 11 girls over 3 years and Dare2Dream has been fantastic the entire time. Their birds are healthy and happy and have brought us years of joy and hundreds of eggs. These guys are the best. We have bought 6 chickens in two different waves. The first wave Austrolorpes were great beginner birds for us first time chicken owners. D@D delivered them to us when they were about the size of a pigeon. Of course it is hard to tell the sex of chicks and one of ours ended up being a roster. D2D came back down to LA to swap out birds, as they guarantee that you get what you order. Perhaps one of the biggest reasons to buy from these guys and not just pick up a bucket full of chicks at the local tack shop. The second wave of chickens we ordered from D2D was red sex links, all great birds, all healthy and happily producing. We will definitely order from D2D when it is time for more and are looking forward to visiting the farm itself.

Best place to get healthy sexed chickens. Easy ordering and chicken ‘s were delivered exactly when they said they would be. I love my 5 girls, they are healthy and are prospering. The $ 30 delivery fee is well worth it to have them delivered to my front door, I think it is a very fair price. Thanks for a great experience!

Best place in Southern Calif to buy full grown chickens or chicks. So happy with my decision!
I was on a search to find the best place to buy healthy, clean, friendly, well kept chicks.
After visiting
and posting a «wanted, looking for 1 Buff Orpington, and 1 Easter Egger chic in the Los Angeles area. I was overwhelmed with the amount of response. 85% of them were telling me to call Dare2dream. The first time was a breeze, but months later I contacted them by phone, left 2 messages. Two days go by and still no call back so I decided to email them, and a few days later Megan contacted me. If you are in a hurry to get chickens, don’t be. Megan, who I just found out takes care of all the calls & emails is super slow getting back to you. Not sure why if this is a business? Hmm… If you don’t mind waiting then this is def a great source to get really nice, clean, friendly birds.
$ 30 delivering fee, but have a internet special for $ 25 but you need to mention it before you have something delivered.

The most beautiful and healthy chickens I’ve ever seen! My babies were delivered on time by a friendly couple. They were very good with handling the chickens.
I would have preferred a bit more help/​advice from D2D, but I read everything I could find online from the Chicken Chick to answer most of my questions.
What ever you do, do not order only two tiny babies, because if one passes away the other one will not do well all alone. I had to run out to get a new one from a locale farmer to keep her company. D2D are very good about replacing one if, heaven forbid you do lose one, but you will have to wait till the next week’s delivery.
I also ordered an 11 week old Barred Rock who is a bit wild, she is a bit flighty and always wants to go into the tree. Our backyard is a very safe haven and she has a good companion who wishes her friend would come down from the tree. Our Rhode Island won’t go into the coop to bed until we finally get our Barred Rock out of the tree to join her. The Rhodie really looks out for the barred rock. The Rhode Island is much more tame.

I am over the moon with my new chicken coop! The team at Dare2Dream farms are amazing!
They gave me great advice and I was able to find the perfect coop for my back yard. They came and installed it very quickly! The best part is that if I move or decide I want my coop in another place I can dismantle it by panel and easily move it somewhere else! If only they gave lessons to my girls on how to use a coop… But they are slowly getting the idea!

I really love these guys. They’re very caring, responsible business owners. Not to mention that they’re prices for delivering guaranteed sexed hens is far less than my local feed store wanted for unsexed chicks. They were an absolute pleasure to do business with. We purchased 5 chickens of 3 different species. One of the chickens came with a bug of some sort. The owners were obviously concerned and came back to our house 360 miles away as soon as they could with enough medicine to treat all our chickens. Now 3 months later our girls are super happy, healthy and vibrant. We are now getting eggs daily and enjoy watching the little goofballs run around the backyard. I wish all small business owners were as friendly and responsive and caring as they are. If your thinking of having backyard chickens, then please go to their site and order some. You won’t be sorry.
