Smith’s Cycle

Ron and the rest of the staff at Smith’s have treated me wonderfully over the past few years. I recently had a frustrating problem with a front brake caliper that continued to leak. It was a never ending process and it seemed that nothing would stop it.
After working on it for a few days by myself to no avail, I took it to Smith’s. They diagnosed the caliber as being faulty, explained to me the issue with the bleed port, and then went to the company in question and served as my advocate to the warranty department at said company.
A few days later I had a new caliber and pads. Everything was set up perfectly! A few hundred miles later, including a number of crazy descents, and everything is still perfect.

I recently bought a Trek Project One bike at Smith’s Cycle. Ron is extremely knowledgeable about cycling and was able to help me get the perfect bike for my style of riding. I did not feel pressured at all to get a high end bike but ended up getting one anyway and I love it. I was expertly fit for my bike. I’ve already been on a few rides and nothing needs to be tweaked. It’s perfect. They were able to give me a great deal on the bike even though it was a custom build that I designed myself. I would highly recommend this shop.

The Staff is fantastic at Smith’s Cycle. Nothing like the pushy West LA bike shops. The staff has perfect knowledge of their products and they actually care about each client, no matter what you are buying. They really helped me chose the perfect bike for my 9 yr old son. He loves his «super cool» new bike… that makes me very happy!

I had a simple need to attach a double bike trailer to a hybrid cruiser with 3 internal gears and I ended up visiting a total of 4 bike shops in the same day!
At the first shop over on Hawthorne and Torrance near Bevmo the gentleman said that because of the internal gear hub I can’t use the quick release skewer that comes with my trailer. Therefore I would need an «alternative» solution, which he says was to use the safety strap on the hitch arm and wrap it around and around the chain stay and clip it on! And not to worry because my trailer is equipped with an anti-​tip feature! *shudder*.
I went for a second opinion with the guys near Hawthorne and Lomita. I really like them. They gave me the right solution BUT their mechanics were too busy to do the install.
Moving onto the third shop I trekked back to a shop near Sepulveda and Crenshaw and the mechanic was also very nice but the solution wasn’t ideal. He said the axle was too short therefore I could special-​order a longer Shimano axle and rebuild the back for a lot of $$ (might have been true for the worst case scenario according to Smith’s). Or alternately we could buy a generic adapter, break the spring off of my trailer piece and attach them together. I asked nervously, «wouldn’t that kind of like void the warranty on my trailer?» Still, I very much appreciated his time and care and problem solving–
Last visit was Smith Cycles which is furthest from my house. By this time it was late in the afternoon when I dropped by and I had unloaded and loaded three kids and a full sized bike several times and was exhausted– but also interested by how diverse each advice had been. Ron came out to my car and he pulled out the correct wrench and unscrewed the bolt, put the trailer piece on, and tightened the bolt and there it was. It took all of two minutes! I was in disbelief. And though I insisted, he wouldn’t accept payment for it! It was such a simple solution that two other capable shops missed!
I was so appreciative I decided to forego the dainty equestrian style helmet I was planning on and bought my helmet and accessories there. They could perhaps use more variety in the ladies helmets but they had a nice bontrager helmet in white. Plus I reasoned that if I keep visiting Smith Cycles I will inevitably get into fitness cycling and need one of these anyway. When it rang up for less than what he told me it cost he had the honesty to tell me the lower actual price. As I finished up at the counter he also gave me info on two local ladies riding groups that go on monthly rides.
So there you have it. I was glad to have gotten such a spectrum of service, it turned into a fun quest and by comparison I know where I want to put my patronage! They were available, knowledgeable, generous, laid back, honest, and locally connected. I’m finally ready to do some recreational riding! This is my favorite bike shop!

This has been my go to bike store for years. Ron and Voc very honest, knowledgeable and fun. Recently got a tune up. Ron explained to me some things that needed replacing and we settled on a new light so the entire world can see me on my early morning rides. Dropped off Saturday morning, and had my bike back by 3:00 so I wouldn’t miss a day of riding. My ride is now smooth and I sure feel safe!!! Thanks guys :)
I would never consider going anywhere else for my bike repair or even equipment sales.

Voc is awesome! I have a jogging double stroller that’s constantly giving me problem. We call it the ‘stroller from hell’, lol. The tires pops all the time in this hot weather! Even though this bike shop doesn’t sell strollers & fix strollers, they have been so helpful to me. They changed my stroller’s brake, have changed the tires multiple times. They have been so accommodating, nice & very affordable. Highly recommend them.

Smith’s Cycle is a great choice if you want to get a great deal on a bike. They a great collection of bike to choose from; especially mountain bikes. They’ve got an excellent service. Their price is way cheaper than all the other bike stores I’ve been to. I’ve never had a problem with these guys. I would highly recommend the amazing shop.

They go out of their way to take care of customers. Purchased gift certificate for my pet sitter. I’ve also purchased my bicycle there about 5 years ago. I had brought my current bike in for a tune up and it was going to be about $ 100 so they sold me a better new bike for $ 200 and traded in my old for $ 100 so I upgraded. Easy guys to deal with.
I highly recommend this shop.

I went into Smith’s get back brakes out on my fixie bike. This place has excellent service! They finished my bike in a day, & since I was out of town, they took great care of my bike for a week because I couldn’t come in to pick it up.
Also, their price was way cheaper than another bike store I almost went to. They have a lot of accessories, a small selection of bikes to purchase, & are up & ready to help with any fix your bike needs.

I bought my daughter’s first bike based on reviews from Unilocal and because it’s close to us. When we went in the first time there were two guys working, one behind the counter and another doing repair on a bike. *Mental check– they also do repairs. When the guy behind the counter was done he came over to help us look. My daughter wasn’t very decisive about what she wanted and the guy was very pleasant. He brought out a few bikes for her to try out, adjusted the height, etc. He was very pleasant to work with and never made us feel rushed. We bought a cute little bike that day.
Another time, my niece bought a bike on-​line (she said because it was WAAAY cheap). We go to the City of Industry to pick it up. In a box. In pieces. Talk about you get what you pay for! Well, I ended up hauling the beach cruiser home in the box and called Smith’s Cycle to see if they can put it all together. They were so sweet. They didn’t give me any hassles at all about not purchasing the bike there — guy thought my niece was funny. I didn’t. Anyway, for a nominal fee, they assembled the ‘cheap’ bike, fitted it to her 5’9 height and she went in her merry little way. I was relieved that Smith was able to provide that service and that I didn’t have to deal with it.
So yeah, both times I came out happy from Smith’s Cycle. They are quite the gem in the neighborhood.

I stopped into this shop at 9:15 on a Monday morning because I was in the middle of a 2 day ride from Santa Barbara to Oceanside. I was badly in need of some cleaning and lubing of my drive train because I had ridden in the rain for a few hours on the previous day. The gentleman that was there (not the owner) was very kind and helped me out on the spot. He did MORE than I asked him to do and even cleaned up my bike a little since it was filthy from the previous day. He saved me!

The staff is friendly and helpful. Pricing can be a little off though. If you are a price shopper you will be better deals at some other shops. The mechanic there is very good, quick and fair priced. If you live in the area and need maintenance this is the spot.

Simply one of the best bike shops to go in the South Bay. I’ve known Ronnie since the early 90’s and he’s one of the easiest bike shop owners to deal with and definitely takes care of his customers.

I saw an ad for this place with a little coupon. I used it for a bike lock. I ended up buying a few more things as they were very helpful.
the staff is great and I enjoyed this little shop. It is great that people are using bikes in this area. More places like this are needed!

A++++ on the service department. took my GT in because my front wheel wouldn’t spin freely. so i took it in and right off the bat the tech told me that my hub was to tight and a baring was missing. well long story short 15 min later my bike was returned better then new. i love this shop. also i will be bringing my bike in for services in the future again A++++ on the service department

This place has been in the local area in two different locations over the years, this has ALWAYS been THE PLACE TO GO in the South Bay. And the oldest !

Great little shop. I bought a new bike there about six months ago and I love it. The deal they gave me couldn’t be beat by anyone in the So CA area. I recently had an issue with the cassette. One of the teeth broke off. I brought it in and they said it was covered. They replaced the entire cassette gratis! Nice!

Smith’s Cycle is two blocks from me and I have been in there a few times throughout the past few years. I have never been an avid cyclist so the visits were usually for odds and ends for my beach cruiser which didn’t require much customer service.
I recently got in to Road Biking as well as Mountain Biking. I took my road bike in yesterday as the chain was rubbing on the de-​railer pretty bad. I had tried adjusting this myself but frustration got the best of me. A day prior «Voc» had sold me a tube for the same bike and even installed it free. This was enough for me to bring my bike back to Smiths for the chain rub issue.
Smith’s Cycle not only fixed my 10speed de-​railer issue while I waited, but also trued both wheels on my Mountain bike the same day all while I waited.
The customer service I received on 10÷8÷2012 from both gentleman (Alfredo and Vok) was second to none.

I’ve stopped by this bike shop a few times for minor parts. They have a smaller shop, but seem to have good items. They have mid level bikes, and have a repair area if needed. The few times I’ve gone in they had what I needed, but if they don’t they were nice and willing to order it. Never had any bad issues coming here and I would use this shop for parts/​bikes when needed.
