Mr. Souvla Greek & American Cafe

So it’s under new ownership, but I didn’t notice until after I placed my order. I was pleasantly surprised though. The falafel was really good, as was the hummus, tahini, baklava, and other dessert (don’t know name). Chicken and feta fries were great. Skip the chicken sandwich.

Unilocal says this is closed and that is literally true. However there is now a temporary sign saying «Jimmie’s Café» but leaving the words Greek Eats showing and in the windows, and it is open for business.
Did not eat there today but checked the menu. They left a couple Greek /​Mediterranean items on the menu but it now mostly typical breakfast and lunch burger joint.

Just ate here for the first time and I’m already in love. Jimmy’s acting like our uncle and giving us a full table of food. I’ve never been so happy

This place changed ownership. Menu has completely changed. So before you try to order… make sure you check the menu! This place was really good before and I am a little preemptive to try the new owners especially when they don’t offer classic Greek food.

Nice people, great fries, rest of the food ok but the fries are great.

Small, cute mom and pop greek restaurant with good service, well designed décor and menus, and most importantly solid food. The beef kabob and souvlaki plate was served with ample rice, and the portions were definitely fair. I surely did not leave hungry as their sign above the door reads.
Wife was quite happy with their gyro sandwich as well. The fries are freshly made, as with everything else you order, and I think it makes a noticeable difference. Also, their hummus was pretty
. Tasted quite fresh. I kept thinking all the food I had just eaten tasted like it was from a great home cooked meal.

I hope the review below give it another chance, I don’t know what was going on when she came, but this place is as clean as can be today. It is hot though, I guess their AC is broken, with the Santa Ana winds it was quite warm waiting for my food.
Anyhow, tried something different today, got the chicken Souvlaki lunch special and it tastes delicious, like the other foods I’ve had.

I personally don’t understand how this place has such good review. I feel bad leaving a negative review as a bunch of previous reviews talk about how sweet the owner is. But I think the place needs improvement
I drive by this place daily and have been dying to try it out. In fact, I had called several times to try to place a to go order but no one answered. They have not updated their voicemail to state that they close between lunch and dinner.
I finally decided just to go in and try the food on the way to my sons doctors appointment. I was surprised by how dirty the restaurant seemed. I came ten minutes after the restaurant opened and it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. The floor was gross and I saw some type of worm/​caterpillar on the ground. When I wiped the high chair down, my wipes were black. I am not sure they have ever cleaned the high chairs. This is something that is important to me. I want my son to be sitting in something clean while he eats. My other issue is that I came on a hot day. They must not have air conditioning because it was SOOO hot. I couldn’t focus on anything else. My sons cheeks were getting really rosy and I really didn’t have an appetite in the heat so we didn’t finish the food.
I had ordered a gyro which was pretty decent. I’m sure it would have tasted better if I was enjoying my environment more. The pricing was ok for a lunch special but it seems like their regular menu is over priced.
I may give them a second try but ONLY for takeout.

This place is awesome!
It’s a little tricky to find as it’s in a corner in a small shopping plaza on the busy street of Pacific Coast Highway. My sister and I decided to come here for lunch, but we had a little trouble finding the place and ended up circling around the plaza a few times.
The venue inside is very simple and not very big. I decided to get the Greek salad with gyro (it was a really hot summer afternoon), and my sister decided to get the Greek pita meal, coming with large fries. The man taking our order was very friendly and noticed it was our first time there. He also recommended us getting baklava, which looked really yummy, but we politely declined and told him we’ll get it next time. The food came out fairly quickly, and the portions we received for both dishes were HUGE. We immediately regretted getting two dishes; it was obvious one was enough to share.
My salad was really good! The gyro is very juicy and has great flavor, and I loved the greek salad dressing here! My absolute favorite as I love the tang in a good dressing. My sister’s pita sandwich was also very good! The pita bread was very soft, and the sandwich overall was a great balance of lettuce, tomato, onions, and gyro. The only downside I would have to say was that the fries were a little greasy. We had to get some paper towels and pat down the oil of the fries before eating them. But, the fries were well cooked and well seasoned after that.
Overall, a great place, but a little more on the quiet side even though we came at a supposedly busy hour. I wouldn’t recommend the fries, or at least be wary of them when you order. But overall, pretty good!

I am always in the search for a new Greek or Mediterranean place that I have not tried, so when I found out that I lived relatively close to this place, I was excited.
Upon walking in, i noticed it had a different feel from other Greek places. I ordered a lunch special, and sat there waiting for my food. I had ordered the gyro sandwich along with a side of fries. The person working the register was also the one making the food I think.
Once I got my food, I took a bit into the gyro sandwich and found it to be delicious. The fries were something else, they gave a large portion of fries, and it was nice and fresh. I like how they leave the skin on, and you can really tell they make it themselves from fresh potatoes, not from frozen fries. The gyro sandwich was good, and i devoured it.
Overall, I will definitely be back here especially for lunch, because it is a great place to go for lunch. It has more of a fast food feel than other Greek places, but if im in the mood for some food, I’d much rather go here than any other fast food place.

Found this place when I was Jones’n for some Greek grub. I’m so glad I tried it I’ve been back three times in the last month! Ordered the Falafel Pita with a salad vs fries wanted to eat healthy. Sandwich was fantastic Falafel was crisp yet moist inside great flavor. The Greek side salad was the bomb! Plenty of fresh ingredients and high quality Feta. You won’t leave this place hungry and best of all the food is extremely well prepared and is just delicious in every bite!
On my third trip tried the Lamb & Beef Gyro awesome! The pita hot fresh and moist got the salad again as my side. Can’t say enough good things about this place family run high quality. I’m definitely coming back this is my Greek go to in Lomita.
Great parking, all major CC accepted, closed on Sunday. Must try you won’t be disappointed but actually impressed.

The Kabob chicken sandwich was just. OK
Something was missing… The fries were awful.

First time here with a friend based on his recommendation. So here I am at a Greek restaurant and of all the choices, I order a cheeseburger and fries only because I was in the mood for a good burger, and it delivered!
I must say, it was a freshly prepared burger along with fresh cut potato fries, now what small eatery does that anymore?
I will most definitely be back to try a more traditional Greek dish like a Gyro.

Review from my husband since I don’t eat animals. He said it was the best gyro he has ever had.
Bread is excellent. Meat is perfectly done. Sauce is outstanding.
French fries are fried in vegetable oil so I can help him eat them. Yeah. Smells yummy!

Enjoyed eating lunch here. I ordered the gyro lunch special. It comes with a choice of either rice or fries, I opted for the fries… Who could resist fresh house made fried goodness?! The meal came out quick. Took a few bites and was very pleased by the flavors.
This place is legit! I love supporting small local restaurants. Definitely worth trying.

My office lunch crew stumbled upon this place when we took a side street short cut. I am so glad we did. The food is great. I had the gyro sandwich one time and gyro plate the next. Both were delicious, but the plate was too much food.
One of my buddies had the Greek salad. The other had the felafel plate. I tasted both. The next time I am getting the Greek salad.

Solid joint — I come here for the gyro plate lunch special (with rice and lettuce/​tomato garnish — I need some veggies somehow!). Always tasty and perfect.
I usually call ahead, and it’s ready in 5 – 10 minutes.

Made to order, so you will have a bit of a wait, but the wait is worth it! The food is quite good… not exactly what I expected from a strip mall restaurant (I’m usually wrong about every strip mall restaurant I try… they seem to all be great)! Portions are enormous. Fried pita and fresh made hummus. Stuffed grape leaves and tzsiziki, warm pita and fluffy rice. Gyro and lamb kabob. Fresh made falafel and hummus plate which is served with cucumbers, tomatoes, green bell peppers and fried pita… simply delicious.
The gyro and lamb were tasty. Did I mention huge portions? He and I have leftovers for maybe 3 or 4 meals! Lots of parking, but this place gets busy at the lunch hour, plan for a wait.
Friendly and fast service.

Another lunch date with my husband and we were looking for a place we hadn’t eaten at yet. My hubby decided on Mr. Souvla Greek & American Café. We had driven by here quite a few times and thought we should try it out… someday.
It is in the Eagle Plaza, at the corner of Pacific Coast Highway & Pennsylvania Ave. There is parking in the plaza, or you can park on the street. The restaurant signage is partially obstructed by the stairs to the second story, so you may need to look for it.
The décor is mostly just posters advertising the foods that are served there & signs of interest. They have a sign that says «If you liked us, Unilocal us. If you didn’t, tell us.» It is a small business place where I think more people take the food to-​go than they dine-​in. I would definitely only eat it there, as a preference. They have Sea Salt, Pepper, Ketchup, and a Paper Towel Roll on the tables.
We were greeted by Stephanie (that’s the name on the receipt) as we walked in. She was cheerful and helpful. We ordered the Gyros and Souvlaki Plate with Lamb and fries. This is a medium fast food place. You order at the counter, and the food is brought to the table. The wait for the food isn’t fast or slow… but it is served hot!
The plate came with 4 quarters of a pita bread and since we were sharing, we should’ve ordered an extra side of them. The lamb for the gyro was satisfying! However, the Souvlaki (also lamb), it was a little tough. The plate also had a Dolma on it. The Dolma was interesting, it is rice & spices stuffed in a grape leaf. It was cold, like out of the fridge… I hope that’s how it is usually served. I’m not a fan of it, so I would not order that on its own. Our fries were fresh and crispy! The sign says «Certified 100% Best Fries in LA… Grown in Idaho».
I love a good baklava, so to end the meal, we ordered one. They looked so fluffy and like a bite of heaven… I was so sadly disappointed! I couldn’t bite into the thing, it was so hard. I don’t know if it was stale or old, or both? Not wanting to waste it, I ate it. My jaw got a workout! I would not order another one from here, because you can’t tell by looking at it… check out my picture

In the area and needed to grab a quick bite to eat so based on the Unilocal reviews and the 4 and ½ star rating, I opted for Greek food specifically a Gyro.
The restaurant is located in a shopping center with ample parking. I was greeted immediately upon entering which I liked. I placed my order from the menu and the helpful cashier suggested that I get the special which was basically the same thing but just a couple dollars less. I liked that he made the recommendation as I didn’t see the list of specials on my left of the cash register.
I got my food pretty quickly as only 1 other customer was ahead of me. I got my order to go which I must say made it a challenge to drive as a result of the amazing smells that filled my car. Luckily I wasn’t too far from my destination.
The gyro was absolutely amazing. It was definitely fresh and tasty with the perfect amount of sauce, meat, onions and tomato. I’m considering placing an extra order of just the bread next time as it was so buttery, warm and soft.
The fries sadly was a complete flop. Many of the reviews noted that the fries were made to order or fresh but there is absolutely no way at least ½ of my fries were made anytime within the last 24 hours. They were solid as a rock. The worst fries I’ve ever been served. I’m very surprised that the kitchen would send this out to a customer as it was obvious the fries were old simply by looking at them.
It is challenging for me to decide on the number of stars to give this place for having both the best gyro and the worst fries so I gave it 3 stars
