Vision One Lasik Center

My surgery was cancelled but I was never informed. I was scheduled for a Sunday surgery which I think was a bit odd to begin with. My consultation was with doctor was good which is why I gave an extra star but his staff is highly unprofessional. A curtesy call would have been nice if they cancelled, instead when I called them on Monday I was told they lost my reservation and its moved to 2 months after on Saturday now. figured. I totally agree with other reviews on bad customer service. I’m taking my business elsewhere.

Just skip this place. The long waits and sporadic payments for different people are just frustrating. If you do choose to waste your time here, be prepared to wait a while for every visit. Make sure to grab the Groupon in advance and pay only the $ 1900. People find out what others paid when you check in for surgery. Makes some folks mad that they are paying $ 400 + more than the Groupon folks. I paid $ 700 more. Plus I had to get an «enhancement» three months after the first surgery. They took care of the second procedure, but still frustrating to go through. I don’t really understand the entire process, but apparently my eyes fall in the 1% category. Could be a line they told me. Could be true. Who knows. The people there are really nice and the younger doctor is cute and nice to look at and speaks Spanish.

I recently had LASIK eye surgery at the Lombard location. What a great experience! Half of these negative reviews that I have read make no sense to me. They all had good results but complain about the stupidest things. In my opinion, The staff was very friendly and talked you through the surgery. I definitely was very anxious pre surgery but during surgery Dr. Burger, and his staff talked me through it. Surgery was very short, about 10 minute long, and pain free! I followed exactly what the doc told me post surgery and woke up being able to see almost ²⁰⁄₂₀. I had a very high prescription and basically was blind as a bat without glasses or contacts. Such a great feeling to be able to see once I woke up in the morning. The next morning went for a follow up visit with Dr. Brand at their Arlington Heights location and everything looked good. A day and a half post op my eyes feel great and can see almost perfectly. A few more days and I should be able to see ²⁰⁄₂₀! If anyone is considering LASIK this is the place to go! Thanks again for a great experience!!!

Do yourself a favor and stay way from this place. All they want is your money and they are not organized what so ever.

This is a strange Unilocal page. There are over 80 non-​recommended reviews (½ good, ½ bad), 20 something removed reviews for violation, and only 18 actual reviews. That made me very nervous before I went because there are very mixed reviews.
I had this done and my vision is actually great, no complaints there.
The outcome was good. Eyesight seems great except for the halo night vision, but the experience wasn’t so great. The staff was nice, but there were a dozen of us getting the procedure done, so we each had about 15 minutes each of doctor/​patient contact, and the other 4 hours were waiting. It seems kind of like a «lasik factory/​mill». In fact, the surgeon and I only shared a couple words. It was done and then a «thanks…next!» (it was a little nicer than that, but you get the point).
Dr. Brand responds to the Unilocal reviews saying «the only thing that matters is the outcome», but I disagree. The experience was impersonal, and frankly terrifying that there was so little in-​person communication, putting the patient at ease and feeling like a valued customer. I don’t think they do this because «there is comfort in numbers», according to Dr. Brand’s response. I think it saves money, which saves the customer money, but still… could improve the service. Maybe even having 4 – 5 people rather than 12. Otherwise, do a better job preparing the patients for a long wait time, and maybe make it less anxiety provoking of just waiting, but to provide WiFi to ease the wait.
Dr. Brand’s responses are pretty unprofessional on here; justifying any complaint and devaluing people’s opinions. These are real responses: «Why someone would spend 2 or 3 thousand dollars more than you did to be as happy as you are is beyond me. I think I would deal with the dumb jokes for that much money. I cannot see why we get a 2 star rating with results as good as yours. The outcome is the most important thing «. He kind of does a «the customer is always right… but actually you’re wrong and just making a big deal». Would a restaurant say «yeah, it was a poor experience and bad service, but you liked your food, right? That’s all that matters». I don’t think this applies in any service that customers are paying for.
Lastly, make sure you ask a bunch of questions at the initial appointment. They don’t tell you that it’ll be 3 – 4 hours, what restrictions you’ll have, or other important items that you should account for in planning your surgery (for example, you can’t fly for a week, be at a beach for _​_​days, etc).
If the experience doesn’t bother you, I think the outcome is just the same as any other place, but a little less pricey/​a lot less personal.

My wife got Lasik here so I’m reviewing based on her comments and our shared experience.
Most importantly, in terms of overall results, I would give them 5 stars. It’s been a few weeks since her surgery and she has ²⁰⁄₁₅ vision now, coming from about ²⁰⁄₃₀₀. There are still a lot of halos and light sensitivity at night to the point where she does not feel comfortable driving in the dark yet, but we’re told that will improve and certainly her daylight vision is even better than we had hoped.
As for the experience, I can understand why people would not enjoy it, though we were reasonably warned beforehand. During her consultation she was given a quick exam and the doctor’s confidence that her surgery was textbook made us feel good. He took time to answer our questions and explain the whole process. He encouraged us to buy the special eye drops in advance to make sure we would not have any trouble getting them since they sometimes can be hard to find (we didn’t have any trouble). We were told it would be a boring 4 hour wait on the day of the surgery, and that there would be a lot of people getting the procedure done in a row.
On the day of surgery (which is performed at Lombard, a different location than our consultation), we showed up right at the time we were scheduled and I presume people were seen in the order they arrived. Our total wait was about 5 ½ hours and there were others still waiting when we left. I agree that it was boring and it took longer than we expected (we were both pretty tired by the time we left at 10:30pm). They had a game show channel on for us to watch, but there is no WiFi available for the laptop we brought to entertain ourselves and it was hard to read a book with the TV on. But in the grand scheme of things, one boring evening that we were told to expect is hardly worth complaining about compared to a lifetime of being able to see!
In any case, I have deducted a star from a perfect rating mainly because of the fairly impersonal experience on the day of surgery, which compares poorly to other experiences of surgery. Since I’ve never had lasik anywhere else I cannot compare the experience or results but I suspect that this «everybody at once» method is how they keep their prices down.
Finally, the price was good using a $ 1900 Groupon. I admit to being hesitant to getting surgery from a place that offers Groupons, but friends had gone there and recommended the place, as I have now as well, so I have no complaints there either.
If my own vision were bad enough to justify the $ 1900, I would come back to Vision One for myself.

I bought a Groupon for lasik surgery at this vision one. Overall the Groupon purchase was great. I had no issues with groupon not following through. However my experience at vision one was not the greatest. I went for my initial consult and it was about a 5 min visit after I sat and waited for 1 hr to see the dr. Well I decided to do the lasik and scheduled an appintment. I decided to up my procedure for my lasik and gave the office a call. Well I can tell you it is a difficult office to get ahold of on the phone and when I finally got someone the girl was very rude. After all this I went to my scheduled lasik apt. It was at 530pm on a friday. The wait time they told me would be 4 to 5 hours. Well it’s almost like let’s get everyone to do lasik and do it all in one day. The office was full of people who had an apt at 930 and then 230. After talking to some people I found out they had been waiting anywhere from 5 to 7 hours to get surgery. Well I brought my labtop and watched a movie. Finally my name was called two hours after I got there, but it was just for my eye measurments which took about two min. Then another hr or two passed and the entire group of people (about 15) watched a movie together. Then we went and waited again. Finally it’s now 10pm and the surgeon comes out to talk to us. Now we are just starting surgery. Finally at 12 am my name gets called. I went back to the room, layed down on the table and the Dr started. No anti-​anxiety or simply talking through was done. It was very nerve racking. After the procedure I had someone drive me home and we had to go back the next am for a follow up. The follow up was at a different office and maybe lasted about 4 min. I was still blurry in the am and was told that’s normal. So now it’s a week after lasik and I’m still blurry, lights are hazy, and it’s almost like I’m in a cloud. I called the office and told them I needed to see a dr. The lady told me I would probably have to wait a long time if I came. I told her I have waited enough and want to see a dr within a reasonable time. So I saw Dr brand. He said everything looks normal and explained some things to me. So now it’s been about two months since surgery. My eye site is 20/​20, I’m still slightly hazy at night and have dry eyes. I went to my apt today and was told that is still normal, which it is… long story short is I don’t think I would ever do this again. It has been very nerve racking. The doctors are not very helpful on surgery day and sometimes surgeries last till 2am. The whole process on surgery day is chaotic.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE My friend referred me here after he got his lasiks surgery. I scheduled an appointment for today, cancelled other appointments I had, drove 45minutes to get there and the place was closed due to construction. I called them to see why they didn’t call me to reschedule or let me know that they had to close early and their response was «we did call everyone who was scheduled»… Well you called everyone EXCEPT me. I am never going back to this place and will take my money elsewhere .
Decided to give this place a second chance after someone contacted me from this place, Bad idea… I was told one price for my surgery and the say of my surgery they added $ 400 more without a previous notice and to top it off they charged me an additional 3% because i used a credit card to pay for my surgery. It would have been nice to let me know about this ahead of time to bring a check instead. All of this was because of miscommunication on their end according to the receptionist. Seriously? STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE.

I am APPALLED that this place is still in business! I did not even get my surgery because after my initial consult, I was treated as though I was more of an annoyance than a patient. When their machine broke, the day of my surgery, I was not immediately rescheduled. I was told I would be contacted by Tuesday, I was not, I had to contact them. And then was again treated as though I was an inconvenience and that I was not important. They told me that their surgeon, who was going to initially perform my PRK with their normal machine, now would not, as, apparently something had changed. They stated that their surgeon was only going to be their ONE weekend during August, the last one. I am a teacher. My first appointment was July 8, so I had plenty of time to recover and what-​not. I now cannot receive the surgery because I will not have time to recover before the school year starts. I was treated poorly almost every time I called. I will spend more money on a place that actually cares about their patients.

WILLIAM B IS THREATENING ME THROUGH PRIVATE EMAILS ON Unilocal!
I updated my post about William B’s email harassment 3 YEARS AFTER MY EXPERIENCE, and mentioned that 2 other dissatisfied customers have contacted me about similar experiences of being harassed and bullied about their posts, or told they would have a better experience if they take down their post and come in again. I have since received a threatening email, claiming that if I don’t provide the names and emails of the dissatisfied customers to be «tracked down» (literal quote!) and take down my post — both of which I refuse to do – that his «lawyer sons» will take legal action against me for slander, and if I don’t want this to «get out of control» or «in courts,» I should call him immediately to take care of this. He literally said that my post isn’t good for him so it isn’t good for me.
I honestly feel threatened and frightened. They claim that it is «unfair» for me to talk about what I was told about a refund, completely ignoring that it is fair (this is Unilocal is for!) and it is unfair for them to treat me – or anyone — this way. I am merely speaking about my opinion and my experience, like this specific email threat I received, and am in accordance to all Unilocal Guidelines. In all my reviews, I spoke of hyper-​aggressive, unprofessional, predatory and unethical behavior at Vision Lasik, and but this is far worse than I imagined. They have hundreds of reviews, but why they have chose to harass and threaten me YEARS after the fact — especially since I got my refund — truly frightens me, and I sincerely hope everyone reads this and seriously considers what’s at stake when you choose this company. If you dare to speak out, they may threaten and bully you (and others they perceive to help you) like they are currently doing to me. Again, as before, I can only speak to my experience, but please know that I feel that I am not alone in these experiences given what others have shared (read the reviews!).
Given my experiences with this place, I believe the ppl who shared their experiences with me – read the negative reviews, they all speak to the virtually the same experience of being bullied or mislead! — and wrote in my previous update I believe their bullying tactics is why Lasik One’s Unilocal rating is likely inflated. Nearly three years after my experience with them, William B contacted me saying that I should take my post down b/​c they are «not living social» and that living social «knows» when ppl don’t get the surgery and therefore Vision One has no need to ever call living social. Twice, in 2 separate reviews (and now in this third review!), I said that they needed to let living social know that I DIDN’T DO THE SURGERY so that living social could refund me (not that Lasik One has to refund me personally or that they have to negotiate with living social about refunding my money) and that when I finally called living social to see where my refund was, they said they were never contacted by Lasik One that I did not get the surgery, as I was told they would do. Regardless, what William B. FAILS to understand is that whoever *has* to call living social is immaterial. I was given specific information about my refund AT THE TIME and shared my experience. Whether or not someone had the wrong information, they just forgot to call, purposefully mislead me, or whatever other excuses there could be for telling me they would call but did or could not, the point is that I was told they would do it and they didn’t — not that it can’t be done by them at all (as they are claiming now). I can’t take down my post just b/​c they claim it’s not their responsibility three years after the fact; that would be unethical. (They also fail to understand that I had my friend and husband there who also heard this information, and witnessed some of their bullying behavior. If they really wanted to know what happened and correct it, they should have asked me about my experience and who told me this information rather than just sending me harassing and threatening emails about taking down my post.)
I IMPLORE YOU ALL, DO NOT USE THIS PLACE– IT IS MORE THAN JUST BEING UNPROFESSIONAL, THEY ARE UNETHICAL AND AGGRESSIVE. DO NOT RISK YOUR PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, AND MENTAL SAFETY. NOTHING IS WORTH BEING BELITTLED, HARASSED, AND EVEN THREATENED BY THESE BULLIES. I MADE THE MISTAKE OF NOT RESEARCHING THIS PLACE BEFORE I PAID FOR SURGERY, PLEASE TAKE CAUTION!
PS: I have contacted Living Social, and they confirmed that when doing a large purchase like this (it was $ 1900), they typically have to confirm with the company that the surgery did not take place, and often companies call and inform living social first. I have had this happen before with a voucher for a hair treatment that was no longer offered; the salon called living social to let them know that they could not honor the voucher. I have also contacted Unilocal about William B’s harassment.

I intentionally waited over two months before writing this review (or so I like to tell myself), just so I could truly verify the PROMISES made at this Vision One LASIK Center instead of just posing as fanboy proclaiming that its gonna be a bright, bright, sun shiney day.
My cousins regularly visit the Lombard location of Vision One Lasik Center for their spectacles and I have heard good remarks about that side of this business but my experience here is limited to the Laser Eye Surgery. I discovered that Vision One Lasik Center was going to be featured on a number of daily deal platforms but, despite the apparent plethora of options, this clinic pioneered the rising popularity that we have seen of LASIK on platforms such as Groupon, Amazon Local, Living Social, etc. Instead of providing a generic overview saying that guests of the Lombard location might get lucky enough to be greeted by a cheerful technician named Amanda, or describing how Dr. William B. Brand (whose forthright answers, caring approach, and genuine sense of concern) really made me feel like part of the family) takes care of describing the surgery and the post op and Dr. Martin Burger (whose sense of humor contributed to his face being broadcast in an informatory video about Lasik) actually takes care of the procedure, I am going into detail about what was promised and what was delivered.
Promises:
1) My vision will go from being barely able to see a computer screen to better than normal (20:15) two weeks after the surgery.
2) Post op night glare would improve so much that… I can see clearly now!
3) Hazy vision in dim light after the procedure would clear up
These promises have all been kept. The only reason that this review has not been rated as the highest possible is because of its location. Thanks again guys!

Price wise this is the cheapest I’ve seen the procedure at $ 1900 with the Groupon. I went for the consultation before I purchased the Groupon but I was still surprised that for such a large purchase for a Groupon that it was not a scam. LVI charged $ 3300 with a supposed 20% discount because the sun was shining. LASIK plus wanted my leg and $ 3750 also with a $ 600 discount because the sky is blue.
You see and talk to the doctors more than other places that have you with a tech most of the time. Yes, you’ll be there on the day of the surgery for 3 – 4 hours because they have people go in groups. The whole procedure takes about less than five minutes. I was able to see almost immediately. I even went out to eat afterwards. Discomfort is the best word to describe some of the unpleasant sensation regarding the surgery, but there is no pain.
Two weeks later, I can see without any aid better than ever. You have to wear the goggles for a week while you sleep and take two eye drops four times a day as well, but that’s no big deal. My vision is still improving as it takes a couple of months to fully heal.
So I would definitely recommend going here unless you wanna pay double the price at LVI or LASIK plus. Best investment so far.

I can see through time!!! My vision is AMAZING! Sure the staff is VERY unorganized. Sure the doctors herd you in like cattle. And sure nothing was properly explained to me before the surgery… But is my vision better than ²⁰⁄₂₀?! YES! To go from ²⁰⁄₄₀₀₀ to ²⁰⁄₁₅ is remarkable! I was told last second that I needed PRK (which sucked recovery wise) but was actually talked through it by dr. Burger. I found both doctors (pre and post op) quite pleasant and very straight shooters. Have some faith.

I had an excellent experience getting LASIK done at Vision One in Lombard. My eyes before I came here to get LASIK were –5.25 each eye with astigmatism… basically I had embarrassingly poor vision. I was told I may possibly be a PRK candidate due to this but found out soon before the surgery that I would be getting LASIK, no biggie. I would have probably had the same post op results (²⁰⁄₂₀).
On the date of the surgery, I, along with about 10 others, was given tests and instructions on what to expect during surgery and on post op care.
The wait for the surgery was a little nerve-​racking but of course that’s understandable. Wait time before surgery was 3 – 4 hours and surgery itself was less than 2 minutes per eye. Was a breeze and truly nothing to worry about.
After the surgery, the area around my eyes was swollen and my vision itself was hazy. I couldn’t see much better even up until the next day when I had my post op exam. I assumed I didn’t get ²⁰⁄₂₀ vision from the surgery because of this but a couple weeks later the full effect of the surgery came in and it was indeed ²⁰⁄₂₀ and has stayed that way now over a year later.
It’s nice not being dependent on contacts or glasses and I would do it over again many times over. My only complaint is the common side affect, dry eyes. Drops specifically for dry eye relief caused by LASIK are about $ 12 for a 1 month supply, which is a little annoying but really no reason not to go forward with the procedure.
I don’t understand the other reviews for this place, you have people giving two stars because, although they got ²⁰⁄₂₀ vision, they didn’t like the Doctor’s jokes during such a stressful time for them… then a one star review of a customer complaining they were there all day waiting for surgery, citing the batch appointment process they use here (to save you money). Give me a break. If you are not interested in getting quality LASIK done at an unbeatable price, come here. If you want to be a princess and can’t sacrifice one day to have better vision for life then please by my guest and spend $ 5,000+ at Lasik Plus, I’m sure they’ll even open the door for you.

Wow, my experience with this place was extremely different from the ones described in these negative reviews. I had a really good experience at Vision One. My procedure was done in 2012, and I have not had any problems to date. I couldn’t be happier with the results! :) Thank you!

I am going on 4 years after LASIK here and couldn’t be happier! I spent most of my life with poor vision and an astigmatism that made most of my eye doctors furrow their brows. This place changed that for me. I also have larger than average pupils which can cause an issue with night vision. I signed a waiver for this but haven’t had a problem there. I’m really surprised at the negative reviews here! I found dr brand to be excellent and his laid back demeanor made me feel comfortable going in for the intimidating procedure. It was painless, over fast and by the next morning I could see in the shower for the first time. I’d go back but I have perfect vision and no longer need them!

My experience was somewhat negative, somewhat positive, but unique.
I was consulted in Arlington Heights and told the surgery would be in Lombard, that was fine. I was told I’d be waiting a few hours (4 – 5) for surgery, so I was prepared for that. The consultation went along fine, I got my pupils dilated, was told I’m a good candidate, got explained what happens during surgery, and went on my way.
My vision was –3.5 at the time with light astigmatism… now its perfect.
I had laser eye surgery done twice, separate occasions for each eye, and the experience was vastly different both times.
The first time, I waited 6.5 hours for surgery, I was quite unhappy. Then I got into the surgery room and got one eye started; the machine was having trouble with a suction ring and starting kept taking longer and longer, but finally they cut my one eye, opened the flap, and proceeded to laser my eye… standard procedure. Don’t panic when you lose vision or barely have any when they open the flap, it happened to me, but they kept telling me to look at the blinking light, but safe to say I couldn’t. The doc didn’t reassure me in any manner when I told him this. I got my vision back right after they closed the flap.
They started my second eye and during the cutting, the machine lost suction during cutting and they stopped surgery. Nice of them to think of my safety. Bad news was that I had to wait three months to do surgery again; the eye needs time to heal.
I looked in the mirror and thought I had some type of stigmata… both my eyes were blood red where the whites were (not at the colored part). I was told this was fairly common and should clear up in a few weeks… which it did. My one lasered eye had perfect vision the next day, but felt like it had an eye lash stuck in it all the time. This lasted for about two weeks, it was not unbearable, but just constantly uncomfortable. In the morning, it would always feel great, but as the day progressed, it would get more and more uncomfortable. Soon enough the symptoms went away and I had perfect vision with a little dryness for about another week, then my natural tears took over… helped to watch sad movies like Lion King or Its a Beautiful Life.
Three months later, I went back for a lasering on my other eye. Much different experience. Waiting time was much much less, maybe an hour and a half with tests, this included a whole bunch of people ahead of me. The surgery was quick and painless. My eye was cut, lasered, and closed within like 90 seconds. Go Doc Burger. Not only that but I didn’t have ANY side effects… no dryness, no redness, nothing. I didn’t even look like I had surgery.
I finally had perfect vision in both eyes.

A coworker and I took advantage of a YouSwoop deal for $ 1,900 Lasik in July of this year.
I was extremely hesitant out of my nervousness of the procedure and the reviews on Unilocal,but after several hours of researching the pros and cons of Lasik and a long conversation with Dr. Brand, he alleviated much of my concern and I went through with the procedure.
Six months later, I have no regrets. I am ²⁰⁄₂₀ in both eyes and I LOVE not dealing with contacts or glasses. My coworker has ²⁰⁄₂₀ as well, and is as satisfied as I am.
I am basing my review off of the end result of my Lasik, which turned out to my expectations and without complications. I won’t debunk the previous reviews that mention a lack in customer care or personable consultation. This is not a «high-​touch» experience as far as getting to know the Doctor — they are going to bring you in, show you a video, perform the surgery you paid for, and send you on your way. From what I’ve heard, this is common among these type of practices. The initial and subsequent follow up appointments, however, involve more one-​on-​one time and explanation around the surgery, recovery, and aftercare.
Yes, you have to make it out to Lombard; yes, it does take half a day for a 10 minute procedure; and yes, it does seem like the procedure is trivial to them, but these guys know what they’re doing and I’m extremely happy with the results.
I would recommend having the procedure done if you come across a Groupon or YouSwoop deal, which I believe comes up often.

I had prk done about 3 months ago. I was a –6 going into the procedure. The doctor at my initial checkup told me I would know for sure if I needed prk or lasik the day of the procedure. I also did not know I was getting prk till I was in the surgery room. The form I signed the day of the procedure said I was getting lasik. Dr. Brand didn’t do a good job explaining how much discomfort I would have with prk and that I may need to take a week off of work to recover. I didn’t have too much time to think about how prk would affect me since I was already in the operating room and they were waiting for my decision.
I am currently twenty twenty in my right eye but my left eye is still a little blurry or has some ghosting effects. The first three days after the surgery were painful so make sure you take enough time to recover.
Its also interesting how they schedule a group of people for the operation and we go in one after another for the operation.
Overall I am happy I got it done but I’m disappointed my recovery is taking a lot longer than people that had lasik. I also was very surprised how much discomfort I felt during the first week. I guess it was because it wasn’t fully explained to me the side effects of this procedure.

Am I wearing contacts? My vision is around ³⁰⁄₃₀ according to my checkup, with some unnoticeable dryness that is blurring my vision. The optometrist said the vision will continue to get better, especially in terms of the dryness, which is very typical of PRK surgeries.
It was a rough journey early on, with heavy anxiety about the state of my eyes and if they would fully recover, but I’m feeling really good after a month past my PRK surgery. If you get an opportunity to do business with these people (through a Groupon or otherwise), I would recommend them (see my first review for the surgery experience). It’s not for the faint of heart, and you have to be very disciplined in your follow-​up medications and habits so it minimizes complications. Thanks Dr. Burger and Dr. Brand (s)!
