I love the food here. Taste like home cooked food and they don’t overload it with spice. Its a small space that can only seat 15 – 20 people so not an ideal place for large groups. I’ve gotten their Karhai Gosht, Chicken 65, Butter Chicken, and Chicken Biryani and everything has been really good. If you don’t want to wait a long time for your food, ask them whats already cooking in the back and stick to the daily specials. Otherwise they make it fresh and it can take a long time. The customer service can be up and down. It all depends on who is working the front counter.

After a day of feeding my mind, I needed to feed my stomach. The lunch combo hit the spot. I had a delicious and flavorful chicken curry. Also a great lentil dish. It came with a side of rice. Will definitely be back!

Amazing food, the food is aunthetic Pakistani. When you go to other local Indian/Paki restaurants you eat the food but their spices are very typical. Here the spices are original. They have great vegetarian menu too. Great for catering too. Friendly service.

I guess you can’t have it both ways. Good food and Good Service. Forget about it. It’s like searching for unicorns. They don’t exist. That’s the story of Taste Of Karachi. Food: Good From day one, I’ve always liked their food. Even gone out of my way to recommend this place to others. Service: Horrible Due to good food, I was always willing to overlook service aspect of this restaurant. Their poor service is the direct result of them always being short staff. Most of the time this place is run on two people staff(2 family members). This staff is responsible for cooking, cleaning, serving, taking order and everything in between.– Rarely they have 1 additional staff to help out. Even then it’s not enough. Recent Experience: Disappointed Recently hosted 20 people Iftar party here. Needless to say we all were very disappointed. Once again service was the reason everyone left with a bad taste in mouth. Instead of servicing the customers in the restaurant, they choose to focus on their Catering orders in the kitchen. Frequently my wife had to bring food out from the kitchen herself and services our guests. On top of their bad service, we weren’t allowed to take home our leftovers home. Afterall this was NOT a buffet arrangement and we had order various different items off the menu(Pre-discussed/ordered the items with the owner 2 weeks prior). I am afraid this was our last visit to this restaurant.

My family and I went about a week ago. Place is a bit small, on the cozy side. Food is very good from the appetizers to the main course. The chana chat is amazing, better then Devon. The halwa puri combo is very good as well. We tried majority of the food and it was very good. The only thing we found a little bland was the chicken pilau, lacked flavor.

In the beginning the food was great but slowly their food and service both got worst and worst. Today shall be my last time purchasing food here. I always order biryani and all I get is bones and no meat and plus biryani too dry and raita that has already turn bad. I used to live this place a lot and everytime I say may be today they r not going to disappoint but they have for last 5 times of my vist

The good: — Menu is amazing — food tastes like heaven — humble place, no ambiance — this place is worth the drive from Chicago — Chana Chaat is outstanding — Mutton Karahi makes you cry — 10 tables, 30 charis, family business. — friendly owner The bad: — I will have to take a star out of every Indian or Pakistani review I have ever done.

Went here for dinner. We ordered the Bihari Kabab and Nihari and both were cooked to perfection. Naan was delicious with butter on top. This place really is a hidden gem. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for good old fashioned Pakistani food.

Excellent Biryani. The Karahi gosht was the absolute best I have had in a long time. The Bihari kebab were nice as well but not the greatest, the only criticism I have is that the service could have been a lot faster and our food was a little cold when it came out to our table

I wanted to love Taste of Karachi. I enjoy trying foods I’m unfamiliar with, of which Pakistani cuisine is one. I went on a weekend day and ordered a spicy chicken wrap special and some vegetable samosas. They told me it would take about 15 minutes, but actually took 30. Fortunately, I was able to hang out at a shop next door while waiting. I finally got my food after having to ask for it a third time. The chicken wrap was quite tasty, with grilled spicy chicken and two tasty sauces, but the fries were soggy and cold. Not that I’d expect a restaurant like this to have best in class fries, but disappointing nonetheless. The samosas were awesome, as good samosas should be. I’ve had much blander samosas at other restaurants, these were great. However, the service here left something very much to be desired. The cashier was incredibly slow and unresponsive, and left several people waiting while she did who-knows-what behind the main counter. The tables were pretty grimy and full of dirty dishes that they showed no urgency in cleaning up. I didn’t care and just sat down right next to someone else’s half eaten plates and had my lunch, but for some people, it would be a huge turn off. Overall, I don’t think I will ever go back to Taste of Karachi for eat-in, but might try them for take out if I’m in the area, due to the fact the food was great.

Though our family had a terrible experience with their customer service, I do have to say I like their lunch special. It tastes like home cooked mama’s food. The special came with rice, chicken Salan, daal, and naan. It was a filling delicious meal!!! So if your looking for home cooked style dishes, you will enjoy this place.

Ultimately customer service is what will make you or break you. We found out what bad customer service was this weekend when this place made food for our family party even though we never placed the order. When we said we never place the order they called the cops. The cops said they couldn’t do anything but would try to help. My uncle tried to be a nice guy and said we will take the food for an event tomorrow if you can store it for us and re-heat it. Food showed up cold the next day!!! They would not even budge on the price even though we were doing them the favor. They have great food but this is the Last time I go to this place.

Amazing! My boyfriend is Pakistani and we went here for lunch. Indian and Pakistani food are my favorite cuisine. I was doubtful that Karachi could or would beat out Lahore Grill. I was pleasantly surprised. This place gets straight to the point! I felt like I was dining in someone’s home. This family ran business had excellent customer service skills and fresh food that melts in your mouth! Lamb Gosht was the best I have tasted! It melted in my mouth. We had this chick pea appetizer that was like a salad that was so flavorful! Dal yummy. Paratha was out of this world!!! It was freshly made and the best I have ever had! This is now my favorite restaurant!

I’m surprised to read reviews saying the food is bland; I’m eating their vegetable biryani as I type this and it’s taking the roof of my mouth off. The daily special is written on a menuboard; I’m surprised to see menu photos here as there weren’t any in the restaurant that I could see. Since the daily items were all goat/chicken/meat I asked what they had for a vegetarian; the options were said vegetable biryani; egg rolls(spicy Indo-Chinese); and some sort of spinach thing I didn’t understand. The egg rolls were spicy and otherwise your standard eggroll(comes with tamarind and yogurt sauces) and the vegetable biryani will require the large container of yogurt sauce it comes with. I will try calling ahead in future; sometimes a person just wants samosa on the way home. I was here for dinner. Big portion of biryani(serves 2 hungry or 3 peckish people) and 2 small eggrolls = $ 12. Price is for takeout(I ordered dine-in but order came wrapped in a plastic bag, so OK).

This is more like a 2.5 rather than a 2, but here we go! So, we went recently to Taste of Karachi for my dad’s birthday. It was too cold and too late to go to Devon, so we settled with the suburbs. Here’s the breakdown: The GOOD: 1) The naan! Amazingly delicious. Buttery, warm, crispy yet soft– just perfect. 2) Chicken kababs. So good.(Granted me got them for free– will explain) 3) The waiter was pretty nice. He was apologetic that it was taking so long as well. The owner?/chef came out afterwards to ask us how everything was and was very sweet. The BAD: 1) The bathroom. It was clean, yet it smelled terrible. Like a sewage pipe was leaking. I just wish they had air freshener because I was most likely going to throw up. 2) The WAIT! We had 12 people in our party, and I made sure to call about 30 – 40 minutes prior to let them know. I said on the phone that we would be ordering the usual slew of dishes(nehari, tandoori chicken, kababs, etc.) When we came– we took about five minutes and ordered. It took about an hour or so for the food to come out. We were all SO hungry! We asked twice how long it would be, and they kept saying just a few more minutes. I mean we just stopped asking because it was getting awkward, so we just sat there and moped. 3) We finally got our food. They gave us two plates of chicken kababs as an apology which was very nice. The portion size was decent/okayy I guess compared to say Sabhri Nehari in Devon. But, the food didn’t have much flavor. It wasn’t mind blowing. It was just okay. We are honestly not even super picky. But my parents and other family, being from Karachi, were disappointed. But like I said, naan and chicken kababs were great! Would I come here again? Probably not. Not even just because of the experience/wait time(which should probably be attested to the fact that it is a newer/family run restaurant and they probably need some time to figure out how to run). Just because the food was kind off. I would, though, pick up naan to go! :)

Not the best place for Pakistani & Indian food. The people who own the shop are nice, but they don’t know how to run a restaurant. The food is priced high for the quantity & taste. The food taste is bland. Save your money & go to another restaurant their are many other good shops on Roosevelt Road. I don’t want to trash a business, but their service is bad too. I went their to order couple thing on a Saturday morning, when their was only 1 person ordering in front of me & they still messed up my order bad. Sum it all up: Don’t waste your money at this place, go to another restaurant down the road. Advice to owner: I would lower your price on food you serve, or else your business will not last for a while.

I happened to stop by here because there was a long wait for my eyebrow threading next door. It was almost dinner time I got very hungry. Turns out that was their first day. I think it was last Friday, 12th of July. I ordered the dahi vada chaat and chicken biryani. The chaat was subpar but the chicken biryani was dynamite! I am an avid fan of Pakistani food and so far I had been disappointed with most Indian/Pakistani in the neighborhood. With this, I was shocked. It’s like a dive, located in a strip mall where they don’t have much visibility. But the food is AWESOME! The right proportion of spices and and the chicken was perfectly seasoned. It’s damn cheap. The next time I visited, I got a chicken biryani to go along with kheema samosas. The total check was like $ 11! The first time I was there, I ate at the restaurant, which is so tiny that it’s better off to carry out. They have about four tables and customer service is quite poor. But they’re known for authentic Pakistani cuisine so I don’t want to judge the restaurant based on their customer service. More so, they don’t have all the items available every time. But I’ve enjoyed EVERY meal of mine at this place. I am already a regular customer of theirs now. In my opinion, if you’re dining here for the first time, order something that contains meat and chicken. You won’t be disappointed!
