Months ago these guys came after my mother for a debt that is way beyond the statute of limitations in the state in which the debt was accrued. They went about trying to collect on the debt in the sketchiest of ways. They called anybody and everybody that is/​has been connected to her no matter whether or not the connections had been severed for many number of years. This was a debt that doesn’t even show up on her credit reports or affects her credit. That is how old the debt is, so shout out to ‘Last Week Tonight with John Oliver’ for all the pertinent information on how to fight the illegal behavior, and what our rights are in these matters. We reported the company to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau as was suggested on the show, and now they have «render her file closed. All associated contact information has been purged and it shall not be subject to transfer or sale.»
So, moral of the story is… know your rights and fight back.
