Roger’s Railroad Junction

One of the very best model railroad stores I have ever shopped at, and yet…
The positive: excellent selection of HO rolling stock, terrain supplies, track, etc. I’ve always been able to find a few too many freight cars to buy each time I visit! The customer service is top-​notch.
The negative: my sons love the hobby, and are building an extensive layout. However, because they are about ten years old, I have to hold their hands every minute I’m in the store. My boys are knowledgeable and respectful, but that doesn’t matter; the second you walk in with kids, you are watched like a hawk. This aspect alone loses two stars from the rating.
If you don’t have kids, shop till you drop! If you’re trying to get your kids excited about the hobby, go someplace else.

I’ve been buying terrain supplies and materials here for a while. They have a great selection for my wargame table needs. The people who run the place are super friendly and always willing to help find anything. I’ll continue to shop here for materials!

Very friendly staff and a great selection of Lionel items. Prices seem to be full retail, but no shipping charges on in stock stuff. Lots of other train stuff in several different guages as well.

Very very nice place to check out train models… Pros, nice customer service, huge selection. Cons, a little bit pricey, do not bring your kids, I REPEAT, DO NOT BRING YOUR KIDS. You will be stared every steps as they will followed you throughout the shop. Why cant a hot chick stared or stalk like that to me instead lol. If so, make sure you put a dog leash, and handcuff them. I was told to make sure to hold their hands (until I left the store). No chance to see everything, every minutes i have to make sure not to let go of my 3 kids, which they love trains also. How? Me against 3 kids in my arms. Ridiculous, so I was in and out quick. If anyone go there, go by yourself. But other than that, no biggy. Will go back.

Not sure about the earlier reviews, I found this place pretty helpful. I recently came across a set of my grandfather’s trains and was working on them with my daughter. When we came in to the store we were helped immediately, shown exactly what we need and give some options for other items.
I’m glad I found this store as I do not know much about toy trains. At the same time, price seemed pretty reasonable as this is one of the few model train stores in Northern, CA.

Reading the reviews below, I was surprised to see 2 negative reviews. For the first guy (David T), the original owners have since «re-​possessed» the store, the people running it during the time of the first reviewer really were clueless. For reviewer M.R. This is a surprise and I suspect the haughty attitude did not originate with the store personnel.
The store ownership is in the process of revamping store policies. Contrary to other reviews, Roger’s DOES give discounts. I have been a loyal customer of Roger’s for years excet when they sold to the previously mentioned people. Roger’s is club friendly giving Clubs a 15% discount and members a 10% discount. and yes, they will order items not in stock… what hobby store won’t?
Bottom line, an awesome hobby shop, well stocked hobby shop. I will continue to shop there first.

This is a clean, nicely kept shop with a friendly couple that BOTH greeted me with a smile as I came through the door. Very nice folks!
Once you get inside and get past the counter, there is a large 35 foot long HO train layout right in the middle of the store for all to enjoy and be inspired with. Nice!
The store is neatly divided in half by the train layout — one half for the N scale, and the other half of the store for HO scale. Nice selection of stuff from all the major brands, especially Athearn, big stock of Kadee rolling stock. Also a strong selection of electronics, and scenery items. I’ve never seen a larger more fully-​stocked selection of scale trees and scenery from JTT anywhere else. The scratchbuilders and advanced model builders amongst us will also find a fully stocked rack of Evergreen styrene and Plastruct.
In a series of sliding panels, I browsed through a reasonable selection of your basic detail parts from Details West and Detail Associates, SS Limited and others. Not always everything you need for DA or DW stuff, but it was a good start. A full line of Floquil, Polly Scale and Model Master Paints (Acryl) are in racks near the front window.
The only downer for me is that everything was list price for the most part, with the exception of the big-​ticket locomotives which were 10−15% off — not bad, but not enough to make me spring for one. Rolling stock (boxcars, cabooses, etc) were full MSRP. =(
In their defense, they have to preserve their margins in this business, but I would have likely more than doubled my purchase if they discounted 20% like most of the other hobby shops back in my local SF Bay Area.
That said, Roger’s place is a nice shop, and I would be happy to stop in here and buy a few things anytime I find myself within 20 miles of the shop (Stockton/​Lodi).
Oh, and outside of the shop, you will find free parking! The shop is located about 300 feet from the former SP mainline, as well as directly adjacent to the restored SP RR station in Lodi. You can see the trains go by right from the hobby shop window. Always a plus in my book!

Roger’s is not a bad place if you are a model railroader. They have a decent selection of rolling stock leaning more toward ready to run stuff, and a great selection of locomotives. Lots of easy to build as well as craftsman structure kits too. Every now and then Roger puts on classes such as Weathering, building structures, painting, etc. Close to the UP main and CCT Lodi yard if you’re into watching the real thing go by. If you are into trains this place gets a solid 4 stars.

What can I say about this place? Very out of touch with the current state of hobby, particularly the RC Car market. The problem is the employees/​owners, they just don’t understand or care to understand how a LHS is supposed to run. Most hobby purchases are impulse and this shop makes it difficult to enjoy that when nothing you want or need is ever in stock. The prices are full retail, which in today’s economy pushes the customer to the online shops. I get tired of hearing «we can order it for you», I can freakin’ order it myself and save quite a bit of money at the same time. If this shop wants to stay relevant in the RC car and truck business it would do them well to hire people with knowledge and enthusiasm. Make the trip to Sacramento for your RC needs as this place is a waste of your time
