Best In Show Dog and Cat Grooming

I took my sheltie here, as my vet’s groomer needed a two week advance reservation for a bath. They did a wonderful job, and advised I change his food that was causing a flaking skin rash on his belly. Two weeks later his skin is normal. My vet had seen him numerous times over the last year and a half and never mentioned or gave advice for his skin condition. The gals here are the best!

Great experience! Walked in without an appointment and even though they were busy we were out in less than 10 mins with two pugs with perfectly trimmed nails. The staff was friendly, and gentle. We will be back :)

I just wanted to start off by saying that this is the first time that I have ever owned a dog that needed to be professionally groomed. I own an Irish Terrier and he is only 6 months old. My breeder and SEVERAL other groomers said that he needed to be hand ‘stripped’.
That being said, I called ‘Best’ in Show and asked about this service. When she told me to hang on and ask a groomer she yelled on the phone (not professional at ALL) and the groomer yelled back NO! Then I asked if they knew anywhere that does this and she again asked me to hang on, (yelled in the phone AGAIN) and the groomer AGAIN yelled back NO!
Then I proceeded to be told that what I wanted done was inhumane and that I should NEVER to this to a dog and they couldn’t believe I was inquiring about this. Again, I am a new owner to this breed and I am still learning.
When I was trying to tell her that I was a new owner she wouldn’t even let me get ONE word in. I was going to ask what they suggested, but they didn’t seem to want to be bothered with.
Now, I called around to 10 different groomers and they all said that they just didn’t have any groomers that were trained to do that nor did they have the time to do it because it is such a long process. I asked all those other groomers if it was inhumane to ‘strip’ the dog and they all said NO, it is not. They said that those groomers probably A. Didn’t have any groomers who were trained to do it or B. Doesn’t want to bothered with the time it takes to do it.
Now you be the judge. I am not telling people one way or another to go there, but I will not being using my services there and my sister has already told me she will not being going back for the way I was treated. I am a DARN GOOD puppy mom and I will not be told other wise! I found a great groomer and they took me through the process of hand ‘stripping’ and it is not inhumane. It is a long process and this groomer will give the dogs much needed breaks. They make my little man feel comfortable as possible.
I have heard the owner contacting reviewers about their reviews and about «trashing» their business name… please use that energy and train the people at the front desk how to be professional and just admit when you can or cannot do something.

Lori the owner is the cat Whisperer and I highly recommend her. She takes care of my 2 cats and my Lab. My cat is a long haired himalayan and he had dried feces impacting him. (i have no idea to this day how it happened) Lori cleaned him and told me to take him straight to the vet. She refused to let me pay her even tho my cat had pooped all over her. My poor cat was on antibiotics for 2 weeks. My vet told me to stop trying to groom this cat myself get a monthly groomer appointment. That was a year ago. Lori and her staff are great.

We have used Best in Show for grooming and nail trims on my golden retriever for a year now and we couldn’t be happier. My dog’s skin has improved tremendously and it is amazing what a difference their care makes. Their prices are reasonable and every one is so friendly and helpful!

I have known Lori for 10 years and she is one of the most dedicated and knowledgeable groomers I know. She has helped me out of a pinch on many occasions. She has squeezed me in when she is busy and even stayed late for me. She has given me invaluable advice saving me tons of money in vet bills as well. I have nothing but good things to say!

I had never used a groomer on any of my other dogs, but when my lab mix kept getting itchy, flaky skin a few years ago, I drove by Best in Show and thought I’d give it a try. Not only did his skin get better, but he sheds less and comes out prancing and happy.
Now let me brag about Lori. She is amazing, and even after moving I make the 30 minute trek from Naperville to Lockport once a month just to take me dog to her. She is so knowledgeable that I often call her first when my dog has a problem before calling the vet.
This is just one example of how great she is. When my dog started limping during a run, I freaked out and took him to a vet clinic by my house. They took him in a back room and spent a LONG time looking him over, but still couldn’t figure out what was wrong. They told me it was probably an internal problem (they actually dropped the word «cancer» totally freaking me out) and said the only way to help him would be to do expensive x-​rays a few days later.
So, I freaked out thinking not only is my dog really really really sick, but where am I going to get a couple hundred dollars for x-​rays? When I got home, I called Lori, told her what was up and she told me to bring him in to her shop. After looking at him for about 20 seconds, she said «he has a split nail.» Sure enough, his nail was split all the way up to the quick. She told me how to care for him while it healed, and after a week the nail grew out and he was fine. This is just one example of how Lori saves me tons of money and worry on expensive vet visits.
