History

Established in 1999.

After six years of restoration and renovation, Richard, Lani and Kerri Eklund opened the National Register California landmark home of the town founder as a bed and breakfast inn combining the treasures left in the house with the contemporary comforts a modern traveler enjoys. Throughout the process, they incorporated «green» practices as much as possible. The inn’s solar panels provide two-​thirds of the inn’s electricity. Organic and local products are used to create the inn’s meals prepared with zest by Lani and Kerri. The Eklunds delight in welcoming guests to the Locke House just as the pioneer Gold Rush Lockes had done for decades.

My boyfriend and I visited this inn for his birthday and we absolutely loved it. It was so cozy, felt like we were sitting in the living room of a families home. Lani and Richard were so sweet and accommodating to all of our needs. The breakfast was excellent. We will definitely be back.

This was my first bed and breakfast and I was a bit nervous upon approaching the big old house. I’m tend to stay in upscale hotels and wasn’t sure what to expect. This was different but amazing. Yes it’s old but it’s clean, romantic and charming. The owners make the place. Lani’s hospitality and her breakfast are worth coming back for.

We drove down to Lodi from Vacaville and took a chance on this quirky B&B, which immediately reminded us of Schrute Farms from «The Office.» But from the moment we walked into our room and saw a chilled bottle of champagne waiting for us, we knew that this place was a hidden gem and that we’d made the right choice.
The history of the Inn is well documented in the other reviews, but we definitely got a kick out of the antique furniture, including an armoire that was built in the 1800s and a wood burning stove in the corner. We slept very well on the large bed both nights.
Breakfast was also excellent, even with dietary restrictions. We enjoyed a phenomenal quiche with juicy red tomatoes fresh-​picked from the garden and the greatest peaches we’ve ever had. On day 2 we had a great buttermilk waffle with blueberries and eggs with sun dried tomatoes.
The dining room is very cozy and Lani, our hostess, was warm and accommodating. It was easy to forget we were staying in a business and not a friend’s home.
It was definitely very warm this August with temperatures reaching 100+ degrees but the portable AC unit in our room kept the room very comfortable. I’d recommend bringing bottled water so you don’t have to go downstairs for water in the middle of the night.

Just 10 minutes off highway 99 and you can be spending the night in a great Bed and Breakfast. The Inn at Locke house is a lovely home from the mid-​1800s. Lani and Richard will be your hosts and provide you with a great stay. Our room was very comfortable and the bed sheets were like silk. The bathroom was roomy. Very relaxing gardens and grounds. Breakfast was good. I would recommend this to my friends and family.

This is certainly one of the finest bed&breakfasts in California. The rooms and bathrooms are exquisitely clean, the beds are wonderful, the breakfasts gourmet and utterly superb; the hospitality and atmosphere were hard to leave behind at the end of our stay. The place is like a living museum. The bathroom tiled floors are heated. The Inn at Locke House is definitely THE place to stay for travelers on Interstate 5 or 99 or anywhere in the Lodi area. Tuesdays are free if part of a 3-​night stay, great deal!

The Water Tower suite is my favorite happy place in the world! The reading room at the top, the comfy four poster bed, window seat, claw foot tub… So wonderful! We didn’t want to leave!
We also opted for the Equestrian Package. We were packed a (TASTY) picnic lunch to take with us to the Sargeant Equestrian Center. Driving a team of Clydesdale’s was exhilarating and SO Much Fun! Our instructor was patient, full of good feedback, very good at teaching.
Richard and Lani are fantastic, kind, and great cooks! We cannot WAIT to go back!

It’s been a few years since we have stayed at this place, I’m reminiscing right now and just want to say how nice Richard and Lani are! As most of the reviews indicate this place is charming and antiqued yet it is comfortable. A nice stay if you are in the area for wine tasting or just any other occasion.

Just spent two nights with wife and another couple. Had a room with pvt bath, both good sized and nice. I am picky when it comes to accomidations and as BBs go, this was great. Very good breakfast. Owners are very nice and helpful. Nice grounds and area to picnic and drink wine, which we did!

This is a very cute and charming place to stay. It’s also a bit antique and old but as I mentioned it’s a part of its charm also.
However if you want something luxury — top notch service and place to stay. This place is NOT for you.
It almost made me feel like i stepped back in time when I stayed here.

Where do I start?
The most amazing anniversary adventure ever. Richard and Lani are incredible people with an incredibly warm home.
When we arrived, after a long days drive and a bit of wine tasting, my husband needed a nap! While he caught his zzz’s, I held up in the parlor. I enjoyed a glass of wine and some wonderful treats. Lani noticed I was reading the magazines and brought me the newest editions! Sweet.
I really enjoyed sitting there near the fireplace soaking up the warmth. My guy was certainly enjoying his cat nap in our giant bed.
Heated bathroom floor — if only I had this at home! All of the fluffy towels and special little additions like the face cloths. Even my bathroom experience was wonderful.
Seriously, I wanted to review right away but I will keep remembering the little things and editing my post, i am sure.
I roamed around outside (husband still snoozing, he deserves it). Even with most things dormant right now, it was beautiful.
After about 45 minutes my sweet husband woke. We traveled to Livable, Lovable, Lodi for some dinner. We were eager to return and enjoy our beautiful room.
One of the rooms near us had rose petals tracked outside of their door. It made me happy. I believe you can order the petals and champagne ahead of time. Be sure and ask because I did see Lani taking special care with each individual guest.
There were journals in each room with notes from previous guests, we really had fun reading them.
Breakfast was amazing. We sat with three other amazing couples and shared stories, french toast, pastries, juice, coffee and fruit! I loved it.
Like I said, it has been a long day but I will be back to give Lani and Richard a proper review. I just can’t write enough because there were so many amazing touches that set the Inn apart from any other place I have gone.
Thank you so very much for such a wonderful experience. Your warmth and graciousness will be forever with us. I cannot wait to come back.
Having so much peace and quiet together for our anniversary was just what we needed to connect — away from all of the everyday distractions of life.

Man, I wish I could give this place 10 stars. It deserves it!
My husband and I stayed here 2 nights (Saturday and Sunday in the Water Tower suite) for our first anniversary. Everything was spectacular. Lani is an amazing cook; everything she made was superb (from the breakfasts to the brownies)! She and Richard both are lovely people. While we stayed there we felt like friends, not just guests. Their hospitality is unmatched! We especially loved reading about the history of Dr. Locke and the restoration of the house. You can really tell that for Lani and Richard (and their daughter Kerri) the house is a labor of love.
We can’t wait to stay there again!

Locke House is a very large brick farmhouse with an interesting history that starts around the 1850’s. Dr. Locke, her first owner, was quite a go getter, having 13 children, and needless to say, requiring plenty of bedrooms. The downstairs consists of primarily two parlors, a dining area, two kitchens, and private living quarters for the hosts. I love the lighted case that contains artifacts and the collection of medical paraphernalia belonging to the dear doctor. Charming, quiet, conducive to total relaxation, she has been lovingly and tastefully decorated, preserved and restored, thanks to the Eklund’s major efforts, and put on the National Register of Historic Places. You know that is something special!
All the B&B’s bedrooms are located upstairs. A couple of rooms have their assigned bathrooms down the hall but you have your own key to your bathroom. Some baths have showers, others have claw tubs. Our room, the Bridgeford, had a Queen bed and a gas stove controlled by thermostat for heat. It was quaint while cleverly modern. The rooms are full of antiques, many were original to the family and the house. The stairway is steep and narrow, important to know in case you have physical difficulties that would preclude you from staying there. There is a computer with internet access, free to use, in the upstairs hallway.
Eats: Our first day we found a tasty basket of snacks, cookies, cheese and crackers, fruit, sparkling wine, and sweets in our room. A welcome treat after a long drive. And downstairs, you will find coffee, teas, and some home baked goody for that stealthy midnight snack. And then, there are the breakfasts. Oh my. Prepare yourself for the royal treatment. Lani is a miracle worker in the kitchen. The smells coming from the kitchen… wonderful.
There are a few choices in the teeny tiny town of Lockeford for restaurants, but a short jaunt to Lodi will solve any gourmet food cravings and dining needs. And there are all the wonderful wineries in the area.
Thank you Lani and Richard and Kerri too, for your great hospitality. We loved sitting around the table with you and sharing stories. We felt just like family. It is gratefully remembered beyond words.

What a wonderful place!
My husband and I had a two night stay– friday and saturday night– and our innkeeper was just as kind as she could be about my weird allergy. The food was amazing, and Lani even made special cookies for me, so I could have a treat.
The bedrooms are lovely– we saw all the rooms on the upper level. They are all furnished with lovely antiques, and wardrobes! Beautiful quilts are on the beds. The linens were comfortable, as was our mattress and our pillows. My back normally hurts when we stay away from home, but I felt great after a night on this mattress. The bathroom was lovely, and had a free standing tub. Now the bathrooms for some of the rooms are down a communal hall– so you do have to leave your room to get to it, but you have your own locking bathroom (just as you have your own locking room– the same key works for bathroom and guest room). The innkeeper has thoughtfully provided robes, in case you need to trot down the hall– thought the robes probably wouldn’t fit anyone too large.
The rooms are really quiet, and the sitting in the garden is delightful. The parlor downstairs is great to relax in, and there are board games and books galore.
The breakfasts are probably the best I’ve ever had– or at least the best I’ve had since my German grandmother passed away. On the first day we had a wonderful egg dish with sausage and tomatoes, and on the second day we had a «Dutch baby” — a large oven rising pancake (there are some great recipes on the web for this and I can’t wait to try them.)
Every little detail of our stay was pleasant, and I can’t wait to go back. I can’t imagine anyone not having a wonderful time staying at the Inn at Locke house. And after your relaxing nights and wonderful breakfasts, you can explore Lodi– which was a revelation to us. I can’t wait to go back for pastries at the Dancing Fox, pomegranate cider at the Lodi brewery, gourmet meals at Califas bistro, and wonderful wine tasting.

A charming establishment that is working hard to be both personable and professional. Creative design within the architecture, knowledgeable about the area.
Thank you to the Locke House for kindness and friendliness that you cannot get at chain hotels no matter how boutique that they are.
Price is high for this area, but beats Napa by several hundred a night.
Viewing the other rooms to have a ‘feel’ for the history would have been nice, but the other guests may have frowned on this. :-)

Stayed there celebrating a 40th birthday, so our group took up the whole house! The Inn keepers handled us really well, we are a bit loud… The house was charming and beautiful and the breakfast was great! Jessie’s Grove is a great place to wine taste as well as Michael David! We have stayed at the Inn with Loni and Richard every year for Christmas and they are the best Inn keepers we have ever met. We stay at B&B’s all over the state and the comfort and warmth of the hosts is the best.
The breakfast is out standing and is worth it on its own but with that you get one of the rooms, we have stayed in all but one of the rooms and they are all great, but the tower is our favorite. I feel that one stay and it will be your favorite too.
I hate to go home everytime we visit, it sort of like staying with family.
They also do dinners and special events, and have started to do theme events. We hope to go to one soon

Stayed at the Inn at Locke House Feb 2008.
Booking over the phone was easy; checked in at 3:30pm and were delighted with the house and our warm and lovely room. nice sized room. Queen sized bed had wonderful bedding and the room and the bathroom were immaculate.
The floor in the bathroom was heated — there are solar panels out back behind the barn — so that was a wonderful treat.
Breakfast the next day was delicious. Owners provided some excellent recommendations on where to have lunch and which wineries to visit in Lodi (fav’s: Macchia, d’Art, Jesse’s Grove.)
Would definitely go back! highly recommended.
