History
Established in 2000.
Alternative Canine Training was started in October of 2000 so that we could help people have the best trained dog possible. Rescues and shelters are full and why because, people don’t know how or what to do when it comes to training their dogs. They try, fail and get frustrated.
We started out by only offering in-home dog training. The beauty of having a dog trained in your own home is that you can directly deal with behavior problems and it’s easier to have the whole family involved. We soon realized that some people though they tried to follow and practice the techniques. They just didn’t have the time. This is why we created doggie bootcamps. Yet there was still a group of people that because they couldn’t afford the private lessons were not getting their dog trained. We than pursued offering group classes and are very grateful to the Pet Supplies Plus in Royal Oak for allowing us to hold classes in their store. It really works well and allows us to keep the class sizes small.
Meet the Business Owner
Bonny W.
Business Owner
Bonny has been training dogs for over 25 years. She started in the dog show world with her first Irish Wolfhound in 1986. Not too many people can get a 2nd place in obedience with such a big dog. Besides obedience she would show her dogs in the conformation ring and won several Best in Breeds with her dogs. Another hobby that Bonny competes in is training her Retrievers to do AKC and UKC hunt tests. She is also an AKC Canine Good Citizen judge. Her love of animals started at a very young age when her family raised rabbits. Bonny even started training her rabbit Thumper to walk on a leash. This love continues as she volunteers her time working with many rescue groups.
