Have been going there for years. Within past year ownership has changed and so has the food and service. Prices have gone up, no packages of duck sauce, soy sauce and mustard unless you ask and the owner never smiles. Avoid.

This was the worst General Tso’s chicken I have ever eaten. It tasted like some one took out all the chicken, and just left the breading that goes on the chicken, deep-fried it again, and put it into my dish I’ve never given a restaurant a bad review before, but this meal was so bad, that I had to make sure people know not to go there.

2nd time here in about 2 months. Both times, we walk in and see an 8 – 9 year old working… Even if it’s the owner’s kid, it just didn’t sit right with us, so we walked out. That can’t be legal, can it?

I was one of Chef Wang’s biggest fans, since I became their customer 8 ½ years ago. In the last year or so the quality and taste has gone terribly down to say the least. I don’t mind the high prices if the food warrants it. Their fried dumplings are horrible. The filling is undescribable. They almost taste rotten. I really don’t know what type of meat they are using. The dough is sticky and gooey. I usually order the house special fried rice or lomein. It’s mostly all rice or noodles! I think this is the last time I will order from this restaurant. It’s a pity because it’s close to my home and I use to rave about this place to all my friends and family!

Slowest delivery ever. I ordered at 6 pm and it’s now 7:15 pm — food is not here yet. For Chinese food, that’s pretty pathetic. I called the restaurant about ten minutes ago and they said the food will be here in 15 minutes. Right now I’m feeding my kids hot dogs and spinach nuggets because they are starving and that’s what I could scrounge up quickly in my kitchen. Even if the food is decent, I doubt I will order from here again.

The food here is pretty bad, and expensive for what you get. For a takeout dinner I ordered 3 egg rolls, a large egg drop wonton soup, and vegetable fried rice: $ 27.00 !! The egg rolls appeared to have been half full of the filling– skimpy. The wonton in the soup was really strange. I bit into it and the meat was dark brown, I immediately thought that it had spoiled. It didn’t taste rancid, but I couldn’t figure out what kind of meat they used for a filling. Wontons are always made of pork which would look gray after it’s been cooked. Had no idea what this mystery wonton meat was. As for the vegetable fried rice, they used minimal ingredients. I barely saw any egg, or bean sprouts, just soy sauce colored rice. They threw a few broccoli florets on top of the rice to make it ‘vegetable’. While waiting for my takeout order, I was able to observe the young woman who works the front of the restaurant. I’ll call her Miss Personality which she is not. ‘Miss P’ does not say hello to any customer coming in since she was on the phone most of the time taking phone orders. From one conversation, I gathered the person wanted the food delivered. Miss P tells the phone customer that delivery will take an hour because they were busy, but if they come pick it up at he restaurant, it’ll only take 20 minutes. The kitchen might have been busy, but the restaurant wasn’t even half full. Another customer comes in to pick up his order, waits right in front of her, she’s on the phone again with another order. After she takes the order, she starts imputing something into the computer not making any eye contact with this guy, nor making any type of acknowledgement that he’s there. She finally lifts her head and says ‘You here to pick up order? …one minute’. And then she goes back to the computer to input more stuff. Miss P might have been stressed out, but has no civility when it comes to customer service. No hello, no thank you, no breeding, no nothin’. My advice: pick another place. I’m not coming back here.

Since the new owners took over in October, the food is fresher and much better. The menu is also more diverse including Thai food and Japanese food. I really like the happy family it’s a large portion and reasonably priced! My mom loves the Pad Thai and the Thai curry chicken because it tastes so authentic

A solid choice for Chinese food. Is it mind blowing? No. But satisfying and reasonably priced with decent portions? Definitely. Service is hit or miss. Today it was a hit, as our server was effective but not smothering. I wish my wonton soup had more wontons in it, but it was tasty and not overly salty. My shrimp gyoza was very yummy and perfectly cooked. For a $ 7, the lunch specials are always good and come with soup and your choice of rice. And the portions of your protein of choice are legit. Chef Wong II is my go-to spot when I’m craving Chinese for lunch. Oh and their home made spicy mustard is clear-your-sinuses good! ;)

If you are in Livingston and looking for Chinese food, and want to sit down, then there are basically three choices. One of the three has a limited menu. So, Chef Wong with its full Chinese menu only has one competitor(there are a few take out only places). Chef Wong is good. There is nothing amazing or outstanding about the flavors, but there is nothing horrible. It is really middle of the road. The food tastes good and is not overly saucy or salty. The prices are fantastic, especially the dinner and lunch specials. If we are willing to travel out of Livingston, there are some other Chinese restaurants we like better. One of the problems with Chef Wong is the service. We have been there on off evenings and the waitress also works the phones, cash register, take out, etc. On busy nights, the wait can be too long. There is a man who works there that is really friendly and nice. Sometimes he assists and sometimes he seems to be in charge.

Way too expensive for garbage food. I was a loyal customer for years and witnessed the decline firsthand. Wouldn’t eat there again for free.

This is for take out… downside? Took an hour to get our food BUT for $ 7 I got quite a deal. I got a pint of fried rice, a bowl of hot and sour soup(good) and a spicy(rated with one chili pepper for spiciness) shrimp dish. The shrimp was ok but not really enough of a kick for me and also I wanted a few more shrimp, less sauce, more shrimp(which granted, were pretty big)…however, the rice and soup are going home with me for dinner. I would order from here again.

How sad that some people have such bad reviews! I guess I’m fortunate to have only had a good experience? I only do take out and I’ve always been happy with it. I think it’s one of the better(if not best) Chinese take out places in town. I’ve been ordering from here for more than ten years! Even when I used to eat meat, it was my go-to. I still enjoy it. They’re a bit overpriced but the portions are generous. Now I like the dumplings, lo mein or mooshu.

This place gets the orders wrong on a regular basis. The women in the front do not seem to care. There are other places with a better attitude.

Probably some of the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. The prices were high to me for the ‘burbs — $ 40 for two dishes, a small soup and lo mein. Worse, the food tasted like an old sock. While the delivery arrived before its promised time, not one item we ordered was any good. The chicken in the chicken and broccoli tasted old, like really old where it was microwaved or reheated. The soup tasted like dishwater. General Tso’s had zero taste and the pork lo mein was weird — we couldn’t tell if it was chicken or pork we were eating. Would not recommend this place to anyone and certainly don’t ever plan to eat their food again!

I’ve been to Chef Wong II several times. I used to live in the area and it was my first choice for chinese delivery and lunch eat in at the time. I’ve moved away, but still come into the area for work, and still enjoying going there. The lunch menu is wide and varied, and very reasonably priced. For $ 5 – 6 you can get an entrée with rice(white, brown or pork fried) and a soup(hot/sour, egg drop, wonton). I took a friend recently who is wary of simple chinese restaurants that focus more on take out — he was pleasantly surprised by the quality and taste of the food. The soup and the entrée(i like their kung pao chicken) are very flavorful. The hot and sour soup has a tanginess to it, which I think is important in hot and sour soup. the kung pao chicken was soft, with plenty of chicken pieces, and the peanuts to add a crunch. I’m not one to finish an entire entrée but at CWII I always manage to. I only eat in at lunch time, I’ve never had a problem with the service. It has been speedy and attentive. Another reviewer suggested that duck sauce and fried noodles were sitting at every table — but I’ve never noticed this to be the case. It is brought to the table after a customer is seated, which is pretty standard in chinese restaurants as far as I can tell.

My lack of reviews of Chinese take out restaurants show my general lack of interest in them. However,(boys cover your ears), «that time of the month» can bring about random cravings. Yesterday, I was really, really craving wonton soup. It hit me hard and fast on my way home from work and I drove to Chef Wong II(what happened to Chef Wong I… I hope he’s okay) after passing it many times. The two women at the front of the house were in the middle of a conversation about an apparent unhappy customer. She kept repeating«He say, he want to speak to manager. The boss.» The other woman laughed as if this was preposterous. On hindsight, I should’ve left but I didn’t because I really wanted some wonton soup. I stood there until they finished imitating a customer, in front of an actual customer, and placed an order for one large wonton soup. «Ten minute.» was her reply. I sat there, for ten minute, in between two little old men as the lady repeated herself — «He say, he want to speak to manager.» Okay, we get it! I also noticed while waiting that they leave those fried noodles and duck sauce on every table like peanuts at a bar. That’s pretty gross. Who knows how long they’ve been sitting out there before you actually sit down? Anyway, my soup was handed to me and I rushed home with the smell of greasy food filling the car. I ripped open my paper bag and couldn’t believe my eyes. Hot and Sour soup. WTF? Hot and Sour soup. Thick, murky, mocking me. I– I didn’t ask for this? Where are the wontons? I felt rage. I really did. I don’t understand. I spoke loud, I spoke clearly, I’m not the one with an accent!!! Under different circumstances, I would be more forgiving but the lady clearly sucked. I thought about calling them and asking to speak to the manager. But I figured I’d be contributing to a vicious cycle of complaints and screwed up orders because the ladies would be making fun of complainers instead of getting orders right so I just decided to complain on Unilocal instead. Make sense?
