We are NYC/NJ transplants where dry cleaning is a normal routine service. Moving up here closer to my in laws we followed their advice to check out this place. We learned very quickly that dry cleaning is not Routine nor an everyday thing as it is back downstate. we also learned very quickly that places up here Mark men’s shirts with ink! Knowing that they mark names on shirts when I brought my husbands custom made shirts I made it very clear to them that I did not want it marked– and thankfully they didn’t! The two ladies were super friendly and nice but I wish they had price list– I asked for one and they just told me to ask how much an item was… I didn’t have the time to stand there and go through each item… so when I went to pick up I was just surprised at my bill $ 40.75 for 4 dry cleaned items and 1 laundered shirt… This normally would have cost us about $ 20 back downstate. Eek! The job was definitely done well; just not $ 40 well! I guess it’s the nature up here~ somethings are just more expensive than it is in NYC. With that being said, lesson learned as to why not many people get dry cleaning done up in this area, will need to look at other options or sell a kidney. If you have delicates or fancy wear that needs dry cleaning I do recommend them, but just remember to ask about how much it would cost! I would seriously just appreciate a general price list(I understand there will be up charges for cashmere etc) but a general idea would be nice! Don’t forget to let the kind ladies know you don’t want your shirts marked if you prefer like we do.

I have really wanted to like Harry L. Cook cleaners. As a kid, my mother used to take clothes there, so I thought it a natural choice. I had brought some items there over the years, and have been generally OK with the service, but would stop using them from time to time after being exasperated by so much carelessness. Most recently I decided to give them one last chance: I brought in some brand-new custom-made shirts. I dropped them off, conveyed my desire for cleaning, and left. As I wallked out, I thought to myself that if they broke another button, that would be it! I picked up the shirts, and was very upset that they had written or typed my last name in the collars of all the shirts in permanent ink! The collars are custom treatments and are ruined now. I asked the clerk about this, and she told me «well, we don’t HAVE to put your name in there. If you didn’t want it, you should have told us.» Uhhh… and I would think you would see a custom fabric on the inside and ask ME if it was OK; so I told her this. She said, «Well, the people that first handle the shirts don’t think like that, they just ‘do’.» So, I took the shirts home in disgust. Later, while buttoning up one of these shirts to wear it, I discovered that one of the collar buttons was scuffed and its face was partially missing. When I got to the cuff, one of the buttons was completely missing! So, in the interest of fairness, I returned and brought this to their attention. I was told quite simply…“it happens”. And, as it happens, I shall never use Harry L. Cook again. Since they have been in business for over 99 years, perhaps the problem lies with me for being too darned picky. Beware.
