I took my classic car there. Craig Hill, the owner was quick to tell me he only charged $ 100 per hour. Great, more than fair. Problem is an hour in his world is about 15 min on earth. He charged me 8 hours to pull the engine out of basically a race car. I could have done it in 1.5 hours in my garage without lifts and air tools. The quote to rebuild the engine using my parts was more than what a reputable shop quoted me to build an engine with all new parts. They do appear to do good work, so if you’ve got more money than sense, Craig is your guy. I was so glad to get my car out if there. I’d also suggest you google Craig Hill and look at his past legal issues regarding title fraud.
The kicker was he has the kids working there call him «sir». What a d-​bag!!!

The biggest lesson I learned after my four month long experience with this shop: if something seems too good to be true it probably is. Most people who have a classic/​specialty car, cherish it and are willing to go the extra mile when it comes to services that require a facility specalizing in resto-​mod vehicles. When car required a specialist I made a decision I now regret. I opted for locality rather than a recommended tried and true service provider. My friends had nothing but positive expirerencs at Gearhead Garage up in Sacramento. However, I allowed Top of The Hill’s locality influence my decision and chose them. A job that shouldn’t have exceeded two months dragged on for four months. In the end it took an intervention from the Livermore Police department to get my car released from top of the hill. After some time spent on google I realized the Shop owner Craig Hill had a federal arrest warrant issued for his arrest back in 2007. Multiple local auto repair shops that don’t offer the same type of repair services hence eliminating a conflict of interest ALL had nothing but horror stories with regards to Craig Hill. One would think after spending $ 24,000 at a repair shop they’d be pretty satisfied. Not in the least. My car was left stranded on the side of the freeway in 100 degree plus weather thanks to Top Of The Hill performing a completely unnecessary electrical rework and not securing a main power wire they altered. Beware of this shops «pre assemble» «pre fit» «install» invoicing technique as it’s how they justify double and sometimes triple billing for work.

If you own or collect classic, exotic, racing, or any kind of specialty vehicles you should visit these guys. Craig and his team are craftsmen and expert mechanics. You get what you pay for and always a little more. I wish I had of done my pre-​purchase inspection at Top of the Hill — it would have saved me thousands. Probably the best in the Bay Area if you are looking to build, repair or maintain. These guys are very professional, forthright and honest.

I have used Top of the Hill, and the experts they have over there many times. They ALWAYS solve my problems and put out the highest quality product and solution. If you want it done right one time, this is the place.
They have assisted me in my engine builds and done serious work for me. The shop is clean and professional. Expert solutions and advice.

I took my cobra to Craig for a brake problem and he was fantastic! He was efficient and provided me with a list of other possible issues with the car at no charge.
I would go back to this place anytime as they are very knowledgeable and friendly people.

I’ve done business with the folks at Top of the Hill over the last 10 years (they were located in Pleasanton until about 2 years ago). This is the place to go if you’re a hard core gear head and want to upgrade your car. They aren’t cheap, but the workmanship is top notch in everything they do. When you’re building a high performance car, you get what you pay for. I highly recommend them.
