So far, I’ve been very impressed with Colorado’s departments of motor vehicles!
First of all, if you go to their website, you will have very clear expectations of what you need to do and bring. In this case, I was getting Colorado plates. I had read that I needed to have a VIN form filled out. I knew that I could get this done at a few places. It seemed like they really wanted me to get it filled out at a sheriff’s office. I thought to myself that I needed to get established with a car dealer anyway for service, so I went there instead. Big mistake!
When my number was called (they go in order here, unlike the license bureau I was at the other day) I walked up and gave all of my papers. Unfortunately, the dealer had filled out the form wrong. Apparently this is fairly common. Feeling a little frustrated, the nice woman behind the counter told me to go over to the sheriff’s office, conveniently located in the same building, and get the form filled out right. She told me that when I was done, to wave to her instead of pulling another number and waiting in line again. Fabulous customer service!
About 5 minutes later (no exaggeration!) I was back in her seat and getting everything finalized. Despite the fee being about $ 200 more than I expected (I guess property tax is included in the fee), I left in a good mood. The woman I was working with was super friendly and efficient — she seemed genuinely happy to be there, which i know not many people can say after going to the DMV/​BMV!
I left with my plates in hand, which I appreciated. The process was about as quick and efficient as it could have been, which is pretty much all I had hoped for from this agency. Definitely exceeded my expectations!

Came here on my lunch hour to renew my registration. There seemed to be quite a crowd! Despite having 20 people ahead of me, I was in and out in about 30 minutes. They really keep things moving here and the woman who helped me was fast and friendly. I’ve become used to slow and surly Dmv employees from other places, this was a nice change.
