Brakes Plus – Littleton South Kipling

This place is fair to their customers.
My experience was the opposite of the negative reviews.
I came in an hour early for my scheduled oil change, and they got my in right away.
I had a coupon which I used and was quoted $ 27.99 out the door.
That is the exact amount I paid when I left.
Never tried to rip me off or tell me I needed unneeded repairs. Mark is the one who checked me out, and was very professional.
I will be back.

I have been coming to this location for about 10 years now since before the general manager Kevin was the manager at this location. They have been fair. Yes, you use the coupons and they add those fluid and processing fees when they already added the $ 2 State required Disposable fees. I do not agree with that but I’m still saving some funds as they always give me some coupon discount, so it came out even plus they do not take advantage of women. I will keep going to this location for as long as they are honest and respective and I’ll continue to bake them some European pantries/​cookies for as long as they continue to provide these services to me and my friends and family. See you next month for the brake pads/​shoes service/​replacement.

Theses guys are bad news. They give you a price, then they add little things that should be included. They tell you it is priced out the door, but then they pad $ 30-​$ 40 to the price. They give you a $ 5 off coupon and then add $ 2 for processing or disposal so the coupon is really $ 3 not $ 5.
Rude people. Filthy bathroom and waiting room. The coffee maker and water look like they are contaminated filthy.

The one on Federal is much nicer. They keep their word and even help you find coupons.

If I could give them zero stars, I would. These guys saw a girl walk in by herself and tried to take her to the cleaners. Classic repair shop b.s. I went in for an alignment, it went from that to needing to get my tie rods replaced. The charge for that would be $ 550!!! Now what they don’t know is I’m not stupid when it comes to things like this. The part itself, for a kit is $ 60. Super easy to do so the labor would/​should be about .5 hours plus an alignment at $ 58. I’m also fairly good at simple math… They were going to charge me $ 430 for labor!!! I will NEVER recommend anyone go there EVER! You hope that in this day and age, crap like this wouldn’t happen as often…

Please read this review before you take your car to brakes plus. I took my car in for an alignment. They called me and said it needed new tie rods at which i declined. 2 weeks later the bolt holding the tie rod came completely out rendering the car undrivable. The other bolt was loose and would have come out soon. There is no doubt that they deliberately loosened both bolts. It could have resulted in a serious accident. Bolts dont work their way loose on their own. Stay away from these crooks!!! I would have given them zero stars if it let me

If you don’t care how your car is treated, go ahead and use this place. We dropped off our car (couldn’t find our appointment). Told them we just want the brake special and that we had already had the car looked at. They call and try and sell me a bunch of stuff we didn’t need. The guy argued with me on the phone until I told him I would just come get the car. Then we show up a little early to get the car and we see a tech drive our car like a maniac around the corner and into the parking lot. I told the manager we don’t drive our car like that and I don’t Appreciate them driving it that way. He just says I will talk to him. No apology or anything. Apparently it was no big deal to him. I won’t be using these people again.

Brakes Plus has not done anything but take great care of my Honda! They got a new manager back in 2014, most of the techs I know about are ASE certified. Friendly and quick turn around time. Everyone should head to Brakes Plus

Biggest group of idiots. My father took his Chevy truck in because the intake manifold was leaking coolant. After picking up his truck the check engine light was on, he had me take a look into it and I told him distributor was not installed correctly he took it back the and was told that it needed a new distributor at the tune of $ 350.00. The idiots did not set the CMP offset correctly they had it at 21 Degrees instead of the factory setting of 0 degrees ± 2 degrees. Either their mechanic has no idea what he is looking at or they are just replacing parts that are not required. Since I repaired my fathers truck 2 weeks ago the check engine light has not come back on.

I was dumb to not read the reviews before I took the car to this shop. They charged a big price for bad work. I should have used Toy Automotive for the work. At least I would have had honest advice and quality work. NEVER will I use this shop again.

Brian and his staff are very courteous and helpful. They recognize myself and family. The staff have always taken great care of our cars. We have never had an issue with their service or any work that has been completed at this location. I recommend this location.

I have had my brakes done here and also brought my car in when it started making a funny noise… sounded like a diesel and my car isn’t a diesel. They checked it out and informed me what the problem was which ended up being my alternator and pulley. I informed them that I would need an itemized quote and a bunch of information to submit to my warranty company and they told me they would handle the whole thing! They dealt with the warranty company, got all of my repairs authorized and performed the service quickly. My car sounds like new now! I always refer people to this place because of they are pleasant to work with and because even when they DO try to upsell me on something, they don’t insist it is mandatory. They tell me it’s an option and the benefits and then I get to choose. I don’t feel any pressure. Thanks for the awesome service!

I was so impressed with the professionalism and honesty in the service I received from Nick and the rest of the team at Brakes Plus off Kipling.
Another Brakes Plus location in DTC put in a new alternator for me, and the car was still having some problems… I live in Littleton, and so Nick at the Kipling location helped get my car towed to his location, took a look at it first thing the next morning, and called to keep me updated on what was going on.
As a woman, there are many times car mechanics try to take advantage of the situation with overcharging and undercommunicating, but I received the BEST service from Nick and his team.

Brain over here at breaks plus has helped me out every time my truck has gone south on me, BP has me out on the road in no time at all

It’s been awhile, but this is worth posting. I had my front brakes replaced by this place for roughly $ 600. Literally three months later, the left front brake pad cracked and fell apart. I returned to take advantage of the «lifetime» guarantee and was informed that it would cost $ 200 — $ 300 for a fix. I refused to pay any more and they refused to fix the brakes. Even worse, the teenagers working on the car decided to tighten the lugs nuts to the extent that the bolts were stripped. I had to replace all of the bolts and had the brakes re-​done by a reputable shop. Avoid at all costs.

Called ahead of time and was told to bring my vehicle in. I was told there would be no problem getting it done today as long as I could leave it. I made arrangements for a ride back home but when I got there I was told there was no way they could get it done today. WTF??? Of course he said he could set an appointment for Monday or leave my vehicle there over the weekend. Not a chance in hell they will ever get my business or a referral.

If this web site allowed negative ratings, the Brakes Plus store on S. Kipling in Littleton would get one from me.
This used to be a very good shop; we took all of our family cars there for years. But, they have new management and mechanics now. Their work and integrity has gone way down. They’ve lost my trust as well as my business (and my families!). Here’s what happened and why you shouldn’t go there either.
In March 2012 during a routine oil change (they entice you to come in with oil-​change coupons) they noted that I still had the original struts on my 1999 Chrysler 300M and that I would get a smoother ride if I replaced them. I had known that the struts were originals for years but had put it off in part because the cost was exorbitant ($ 980 for the front and rear struts) and two, the ride of the car really wasn’t noticeably bad. I decided to get it done at this time, however, because I had some extra funds. Keep in mind now that the ride of the car really wasn’t noticeably bad at all and that there were no other extraneous sounds or problems with the car.
Immediately after picking up the car I noticed a creaking /​clunking sound in the front end that I had never heard before. The sound /​noise manifested itself intermittently, however, and only when braking either in forward or reverse. It sounded and felt to me as though it was the brake caliper shifting and causing the sound. I brought the car into the shop a couple of weeks later to have them fix whatever they had done to cause the problem. They checked the car over and couldn’t figure out what the problem was; they said that everything was tight and nothing needed repair or replacement.
After this second time at the shop the creaking /​clunking sound in the front end continued. I waited a few more weeks and took the car in again to have them fix the problem they had created back in March. This time they said that the right inner and outer tie-​rod ends should be replaced (cost $ 485). So, they replaced the tie-​rod ends. Once again, I noted after picking the car up that the creaking /​clunking sound in the front end persisted.
A few more weeks later I took the car in for a fourth time to have them fix the creaking /​clunking sound in the front end that they had created. The car was also pulling to the right by now and needed re-​alignment. Once again, they said that they weren’t sure what was causing the sound but that the front strut rod bushings and the control arms needed replacement and might be the problem (cost, $ 580). I reluctantly agreed to have the recommended repairs done, sensing more and more that this Brakes Plus didn’t have a clue as to what they were doing. Actually, at this point they actually admitted that the problem (that they caused) could be any number of things and they weren’t sure of the cause.
When I picked the car up this last time I went for a test drive with the manager. As we were backing out of the parking stall (we hadn’t even driven 10 feet yet) the car made the same creaking /​clunking sound in the front end that they caused 8 months earlier and were supposed to have fixed (this was the third time that I had asked them to fix it)!! When driving the car, it pulled alternately to the left and then to the right. I was at my wits end by now and just wanted to be done with them. The manager, however, said that he wanted me to leave the car with him to fix the problem and give them a «second» chance. My response was that they already had been given three chances to fix the problem (that they had created). Three strikes and you’re out!
All-​in-​all, the «repairs» by Brakes Plus cost me $ 2,045 and my car is much worse off now than when I brought it in to them for repair in March: the car now has a creaking /​clunking sound in the front end (that they created) and the car pulls alternately to the right and the left.
The other problem that my wife and I have with this Brakes Plus is that they aren’t honest with their customers about when the car will be ready. When I dropped my car off this last time at 7:00 AM on a Wednesday they ended up saying that they couldn’t quite get it all put back together again that day and could I pick it up on Thursday. They said that it would be ready by about 9:30 AM the next day. When I arrived a 5:00 PM the next day (!!!) (in other words, I gave them an extra 7.5 hours to get it done) and the car still wasn’t ready they said that it would only be 30 minutes more because it still needed to be aligned. One hour later, I finally got my car back. My point is, even though I am not a mechanic I knew that it was going to take more than 30 minutes to do the wheel alignment — another car was on the rack at the time.
Bottom line, DO NOT GIVE THE BRAKES PLUS AT KIPLING AND BOWLES ANY OF YOUR BUSINESS!!!

Dangerous?
If I could give it minus 5 stars I would.
This used to be a very good shop. Very good. I went there for years. But, they’ve lost my business because, as it turns out, they didn’t catch a problem recently (fixed by another shop) that left my car marginally dangerous to drive. They actually tried to charge me another $ 200 on top of the nearly $ 400 they charged 2+ months ago, something they should have known about there and then. And get this, I didn’t get so much as an «I’m sorry!»
The truth is, the last few times I’ve taken the car there, it ended up needing more work a few months later. Is it coincidence? Is it just bad luck? Who knows. I’m just not taking my chances anymore.
Ignore the coupons for a cheap oil change. Avoid this place at all costs. There are too many other shops in town who charge the same and whose work is always done right the first time (good example, Jeno’s, which is north on Bowles between Platte Canyon and Federal. AAA-​rated, with a 10% discount for a AAA card.
Another good one nearby, also on Bowles (north side of the street) between Simms and C-​470, is DRC Automotive repair. Also AAA rated. The coupon puts the oil change at $ 25, with a 32-​point inspection, check and fill fluids, rotate the tires, and bronze-​level car wash. The only drawback is the 32-​point inspection can take up to five hours. But, at least you know the car’s overall condition when you walk out.
All in all, ignore this Brakes Plus. They don’t give a s#$%. Nor should you.
That said, I forgive them. Apparently their service ethic is catching up, because when I dropped the car off in the morning, there wasn’t another car in the lot. This is unusual to say the least.

Update for Brake’s Plus. Just a couple of months after they replaced my inner CV boots, my trusted mechanic pointed out that my outer CV boots had not been replaced and it was rather unprofessional for them to only replace one when they all typically fail about the same time. My outer CV boots were so shot that I had to have the axle replaced in addition to the boots. You could’ve saved me a lot of time, money, and hassle, Brake’s Plus. But what do you know? You are a part of some bigger corporation that doesn’t give a rat’s ass.

It felt like a scene from a movie where someone gets stranded in the middle of nowhere and is at the mercy of some in-​bread town folk who charge whatever they feel like for the repair. Initially we were told that we most likely needed a new battery, which was fine. Shortly thereafter the bill was almost $ 400: $ 104 for a battery, $ 23 for a diagnostics test, $ 75 for more diagnostics, $ 182 for 4 spark plugs (!!!), … Then they wanted to push more stuff down our throats like «You really need to invest in another $ 70 for a fuel injector flush, etc.» … Really???
Based on the other reviews, it seems like I’m not alone feeling ripped off.

Brakes Plus, you lured me in with same day drop-​off, you tempted me with the best deal in town, how was I to know you were the monkey’s paw of the tune-​up world. Sure, your staff was kind and smart, as well as not going for the upsell, sure your turn-​around time was amazing, and boy did I love the free air fresheners, but how was I to know of your dark side. I brought you two cars, one needing new spark plugs and filters, the other needing break pads. The first, you laid your savage hands upon, completing the work, but leaving my car (literally) trembling and its gas gauge confused and broken. With the second car, you indeed replaced the pads, but with the wrong type. I learned of this flying down I-​25 when with a *Klunkkkk* the breaks tried to seize and I had to baby the car home. Sure, you replaced the pads for free after this, but the damage to my heart was already done. So, to my fellow car captains, I bid you steer clear of this Scylla and Charybdis of auto repair.
