In the interest of full disclosure, Jay is a friend of mine — but he was also my realtor!
Buying a house is one of those things you don’t just jump into, so prepare for a long review–
To start, my wife and I are impossible customers. Right off the bat, we were moving from the other side of the country, and before we’d even gotten here, we had Jay running all across central Arkansas and looking at houses we’d only seen pictures of online. We didn’t know where exactly we wanted to live, so we looked in Roland, Little Rock, Maumelle, Conway, Benton, Jacksonville, North Little Rock… And until we got there, Jay was the one who went to look at houses for us.
Fast forward to when we’d moved and were renting while house-​hunting. We’d narrowed our search (finally) to Little Rock, but still kept Jay running around from one end of town to the other. He got us walk-​throughs of one house after another from his own listings, and still managed to get us walk-​throughs of any house we happened to drive by and insisted on seeing.
We asked him to show us listings from other agents, we had random questions at all hours of the day and night, and constantly changed our minds about whether we wanted a bigger house at a farther away, or a smaller one closer to town. Whether we wanted two stories or one, a fixer-​upper or something ready to move-​in.
Through it all, Jay’s enthusiasm never wavered. His patience never faltered, we never saw so much as a single crack in his spectacular customer service — despite what must have been an incredibly frustrating experience!
In the end, Jay found us our dream house. Bigger than we’d hoped, smack in the middle of a high-​demand neighborhood, for *under* our budget. Not only that, he found us an amazing deal on a loan (with the help of his unbelievably patient finance guy, David) and, last but not least, he was able to negotiate a Home Warranty and got our Closing Costs covered in the bargain.
As an added perk, the home sellers (who are also now friends of ours) were every bit as pleased with Jay’s service as we were!
Over the process, we met a number of other Realtors (through the many houses we piled on to the list) and Jay was, without fail, able to work with them and let us see the houses we wanted. However, not a single other agent showed the same knowledge, friendliness, or skill that Jay did. In every house we went into, he gave us every detail — what was great about it, what could be better, what kinds of projects it needed or updates/​improvements could be made, everything. He knew the neighborhoods, home prices/​sq foot from one neighborhood to another, which neighborhoods were quiet, or up-​and-​coming, had the best parking, the best food, the best parks. I was constantly amazed by just how much he knows about Little Rock!
I could go on for hours, but at the end of the day, this was our first experience buying a home. And the first experience I had was of Jay, smiling and with what seemed like no effort at all, doing the impossible.
