Cupcakes on Kavanaugh

Being from California, I’ve tried many cupcakes and cake pops all over town. (Sprinkles, Kara from CA and Gigi’s, Brown Sugar, Tracy Cakes from AR to name a few) Although Brown Sugar is good and Gigi’s & Tracy Cakes. um not good, I’m glad I ran into Cupcakes on Kavanaugh.
We haven’t tried many cupcakes, but my daughter loves the strawberry cupcake and I just happened to come in during valentine’s week where they had cake pops. O-​M-​G! I am ADDICTED! The ladies who worked there were so nice — Looking at the website I just realized that I met the owner, Christy! (She probably thinks I was an addict for her cake pops as I purchased 3 cake pops… ate it while walking and then turned around to wait in line to buy 2 more) The Red Velvet was so moist and delicious! (I ate 3 all by myself on the way home (Yay, sugar high!) and had to restrain myself to save the last one so I can indulge again tomorrow) The Strawberry one was so good, I was able to fight my daughter for 1 bite — yummy — those are my favorite flavors so far. I can’t wait to try the «dippers» as she showed me on Thursday. I’m sorry, but move over cupcakes, I’ve rediscovered cake pops again that is worth every penny! I’m going to have to come in early to get dibs on the dippers.
Can’t wait to come back next week as I just finished my last cake pop =(

The shop is immaculate and the style is hipster.
Service: The women working the cash register was very pleasant the whole time we were in there. She provided the customer service that I wish most places would.
Cupcake: I only had one cupcake and one was all I needed. I had the black tie affair. It was rich, dense, and so so good. It was super moist. I have never been a cupcake person and stopped here on a whim. I am now a cupcake person and will be back when the craving for sweets hits me.
I recommend it. There is good shopping in the area so it’s a good excuse to get a cupcake.

I’ve only been here once. There was a limited and pricey selection and the cupcake I chose was stale. Hopefully they just had a bad day.

Hmmmm, maybe I don’t know cupcakes… Maybe, just maybe, but do you know what I do know??? Yeah you, I’m asking you!
I know good food, and I know what things taste like when all those flavors and textures come together.
My friend, and avid baker, introduced me to this small business. We happened to be driving around Kavanaugh on a Sunday when they’re normally closed, and it just so happens that they’re open on Sunday’s for the Christma-​Kwanz-​Hanukkah Season.
But onto the meat and potatoes of this review, and by that I mean the cake and frosting.
Three cupcakes were purchased and none of them survived the onslaught that my friend and I levied upon them. The victims were a Strawberry Swirl, Razorback Red Velvet, and the Black Tie Affair.
Out of the three I have to say that the Strawberry Swirl was my favorite. The cake was between moist and dry, balanced. The frosting was just right as well. Not too sweet as some have mentioned.
Runner up was my Black Tie Affair. I think if the cake was a just a hint more moist it would’ve brought it all together better. The frosting was its saving grace, and it was just right. The sugar content was on par with what people had said previously, but I like my bake goods on the sweeter end. It was rich, and d-​mn tasty.
The two cakes were made on different days. (Strawberry Swirl on Friday, and the Black Tie Affair on Saturday.)
So my theory, my theory is that maybe it is Baker dependent. If they are making these Cupcakes from scratch, as I believe is the case, I can see the slight inconsistencies, i.e. not-​so-​moist cake, sweeter frosting…
It’s a good thing in my opinion. It keeps things mixed up, and marks this business as small, and not ruined by all things corporate.
Cupcakes on Kavanaugh was a fantastic experience, and I’ll be back to try some other flavors. Maybe even some gifting is in order. Give it a try. Like I said above, I may not know cupcakes, but I do know good food. This my friend, is good food.

I’ll start off by saying that I was really excited about this place. I really wanted to love it. It’s in a convenient location, located near a coffee shop, pizza place, and several art galleries. The staff is very friendly, and there is a reasonably wide selection of cupcakes to choose from.
That being said, the cupcakes just aren’t very good. They are quite heavy, and have a chewy consistency to them. The icing is quite good – I had a special Hogs cupcake as well as a chocolate chip cookie cupcake. By no means are these cupcakes bad tasting, but they are not worth the cost, nor are they worth a separate trip.

I’ve been twice… I enjoyed the cupcakes I purchased. My first visit I got a chocolate cupcake; the second a vanilla. Both times I was trying to get the Red Velvet one b/​c I got one for my birthday. I discovered that you can call ahead for the one (flavor) you want as long as you provide a credit card. Not sure if I want to do that so I’ll try going earlier. Got great service each time.

I have visited CoK several times, & the only things I have to complain about are pretty consistent, so it’s not something they’re doing WRONG, per se, just my taste. The first is that the cake strikes me as a bit dry. Not BAD, but just a bit spongy, I think, when I prefer my cake more dense & moist. The other thing is that everything is SWEET! I suppose I should expect that from a cupcake, but when I’m eating something with flavors that should contrast, I want them to contrast. Sweet chocolate with salty peanut butter, for example.
Now, the first time I went there, I had a perfect experience in the margarita cupcake. The cake was tart with lime flavor & the frosting was sweet. Very good contrast. The peach cobbler cupcakes were amazing, too. Yes, there’s a lot of frosting per cupcake, but I thought that was the idea of a cupcake!
The folks who run the place are very kind & accommodating. Previous reviewers have another thing right, too, & it’s part of what keeps me from giving 5 stars: if you want anything except the most basic chocolate/​vanilla flavors, you’d best get there early, because that stuff sells out!

I wanted to visit this place the last time I was in Arkansas, but they weren’t open on Sunday and they close before too late in the evening– maybe even in the mid to late afternoon. I was able to stop by this time though and I was so excited to see «Pumpkin Spice» and «Snowball» as options for the day– as they change their options daily. Delicious! Very large cupcakes. SUPER sweet. I love that though. The mister couldn’t finish his because it was so sweet, but he enjoyed it too. I couldn’t finish his because they were so big! I did manage to finish it in the car about twenty minutes later though. :) The frosting was perfect, and I’m a bit of a frosting snob. The variety was great, and the two that we ordered were very different in flavor which would make me want to go back again to try something different. Several people came in to order the «Elvis» which was a daily option the day before. They didn’t have any, but it apparently went over quite well. I also noticed they have a few cute cupcake decorations for events like a pirate party, or baby shower. It’s quite small inside, but it wasn’t too crowded. I didn’t think it was too expensive, but I’m from Atlanta and expected to pay about $ 5– it was less than that.

So i Had the original red Velvet cupcake, and it was quite delish and satisfying! It was super moist and fluffy. Others have complained about the frosting either being too much or not up to par, but their crazy! I’m typically not a fan of frosting, but they had the perfect balance. It was only $ 2.95, people need to quit crying over the price, because that’s average. Very neat presentation, friendly staff, and great atmosphere. Would def visit and try one of their specials next time. The only complaint I have is that they ask you what you would like to drink… don’t assume it’s free cuz its not!

Kinda blah. Nothing special. I like my cupcakes fluffier and lighter

My friend and I LOVE our sweets and we were excited to find a local cupcake place to check out.
We arrived at this cute shop with 15 mins to spare prior to their closing, and there was not much selection left.
I ended up with a Nutty Irishman and the Peanut Butter Cup ($ 2.95ea). Unfortunately, the cupcakes failed to deliver. The cake was dry and had a very heavy taste to it. I can’t pinpoint what ingredient was used to contribute to the doughy taste and consistency ???
I have to say, however, the staff here is super nice and they offered some great recommendations on neighboring restaurants and local eateries.

Gourmet cupcakes are kind of my things and these are great. The cupcakes are flavorful and the icing is delicious. The atmosphere is cute and the location is great (sushi & cupcakes within walking distance of one another: yes please!).

i have only been here once and was slightly disappointed. the shop itself is very cute and well located on kavanaugh. the employees were friendly as well. the cupcakes were $ 3 each which i thought was a little much. i got three different varieties and was not blown away by either one of them [red velvet, oatmeal, and chocolate]. i am willing to go back another day and try a different flavor though.

Initially, I was excited when I heard this place was opening, since I thought a little bit of NYC was coming to LR. This place didn’t live up to my expectations.
Too much icing. The cupcakes aren’t bad, but there’s nothing spectacular about them either. I’ve been here three or four times, and it seems like all of the good flavors are gone by the time I get there. I found that disappointing. I don’t bother to go anymore since I don’t want to make the trek just to leave empty-​handed.

I liked this place. I have been twice. I like the concept of what they are doing and it is really. really cute.
My sister and I had the lemon drop which was very good and the carrot which was good. The size was generous to me. On our first visit we had the peanut butter and the red velvet which were not that good. But chalked it to them being new. I have to agree with other posters though, entirely too much icing and it is a bit on the sweet side particularly the cream cheese. But rock on, cool lil spot for sweets in the heights.

I was perhaps overkind in my initial review as they were recently opened, and in Little Rock for goodness sakes. Upon revisiting I find the amount of icing is still overwhelming the cake part. Also, I got there about 1pm, and all their «special» flavors of the day were gone – and I was just left with chocolate and vanilla options.

Disappointing.
I think my opinion is spoiled, since this place opened up after I moved back to Little Rock from New York (home of the BEST cupcakes anywhere… and they are NOT from Magnolia, mind you).
First of all, let me point out that the C.O.K.‘s version are ridiculously overpriced, even compared to New York cupcakes… surprising since everything in NY costs a million dollars anyway. The cupcakes are pretty small, and the basics cost close to three bucks. Ridiculous.
As far as taste goes: meh. The cake is dry, and it is totally overpowered by the MOUNTAIN of icing. Clearly no thought is going into the quality of the cake. Don’t get me wrong, they’re darn cute and all, but it’s a big let-​down.
My mouth was watering for a yellow cake and chocolate icing combination: my favorite. But, the chocolate icing barely tasted chocolaty at all. It was just absurdly sweet.
I’d say work on the flavor and cake-​quality. If they taste as good as they look, it might actually be worth three bucks.

The cake is amazing and the icing is almost as good!
I highly recommend the yellow cake with chocolate icing.
These puppies are pricey, so be prepared to pay a pretty penny!
However the end definitely justifies the means!!!
