History

Established in 1971.

One of the most scenic public golf courses in the Twin Cities area, CHOMONIX (pronounced «SHA-MOE-NEE») is located in the rolling hills of the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional Park Reserve, in Lino Lakes, Minnesota. CHOMONIX is surrounded by 2,500 acres of trees, prairie and lakes. This background supports a variety of wildlife and native habitat that provides an ideal setting for an 18-hole golf course.

CHOMONIX opened in the early 1970’s, as a privately owned nine-hole facility. The original design was done by Don Herfort, a golf course architect that designed many courses in the area. According to Mr. Herfort the name Chomonix comes from a town in France that the original owner loved to visit, although the town is spelled differently, Chamonix. In 1987, the course was purchased by Anoka County and expanded to eighteen holes. Today, Chomonix is one of the most popular golf courses in the Twin Cities area.
