Lazar’s Juvenile Furniture

We began looking for nursery furniture and quickly realized that a lot of the chain baby gear stores did not have such great options. You’d be surprised at the prices some of these places are charging for what amounts to poorly made cardboard like furniture. A friend referred us to Lazar’s and we were absolutely pleased with our shopping experience there. It was great to work with a local, small business that actually sold real wooden furniture from reputable brands. The sales associate was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. She listened to our requirements and wasn’t pushy with upselling things we didn’t want or need. Our order actually came in ahead of schedule and the delivery and set up were great.

Mark the owner is incredibly rude. I spoke with three people to confirm my order and when it was delivered they still messed it up. When I called Lazar’s to complain he couldn’t have cared less that they screwed up my order. Will never order from them again!

Best furniture in the Chicagoland area! We went to babies r us, pottery barn kids, and a few other stores and Lazar’s has the best quality furniture and customer service. The woman who helped us was so helpful and kind!

Our daughter’s new big-​girl bed and nightstand just arrived and is all set up! From our time in the showroom until delivery, they’ve been great! Selection was very wide, sales staff was informative and kind, no pressure. Prices were less than the children’s furniture chain-​stores that we looked at, and we feel good supporting a smaller family-​owned business, too.

The best selection of cribs and nursery furniture. They actually have everything on the floor for you to see and touch, other places only had them in catalogues. Beautiful quality. And a year later it still looks great. They even made a service call to my house for a tune up to my glider.

Awesome customer service. They went above and beyond for us with special circumstances. Prices are reasonable for the quality. I highly recommend checking them out. It is a family owned business that has been in Chicago for decades.

We ordered a nursery set from Lazar’s and they were really nice to deal with. All of their employees were helpful and didn’t rush you or force you into making any decisions. We did have an issue with the crib we ordered, but Mark (the owner) made it right without much push from us. He had the company replace the crib and the new one was perfect. It was nice to have someone stand behind their product and for that we are customers for future purchases as well. I highly recommend Lazar’s furniture as they are a reputable company and will make sure you are happy with what you buy.

I’ve driven past this place numerous times, more than I can remember.
From the outside it doesn’t look like much and I never see many cars parked outside, it’s a place I wonder how it stays in business.
We stopped by to do some reconnaissance and when you step inside, it’s like a different world. The traffic and façade drop away. Never judge a book by its cover.
Anyway, this place has pricey furniture of all sorts and a selection of strollers and other baby related items. Helpful.
Staff is attentive when required but they hang back for the most part which I prefer personally. When we did have questions, they were helpful and informative.

Nice products, but way too over priced! I found the exact same products online, 35−45% cheaper including the delivery!

I called to order a gift card from out of state. The lady I spoke to was ridiculously kind and gracious. They addressed it to my gift recipient with a nice note and mailed it for me. I’ve heard great things about this store and their customer service lived up to the hype.

We purchased our son’s nursery from Lazar’s 18 months ago. We were very happy with the customer service, price and quality. The crib has really held up well as have the other pieces. We purchased the crib we did because of the availability of the toddler convsion. However, we went in 6 weeks ago, prepaid for the conversion and after having heard nothing for 6 weeks I called them. Apparently, they can’t get the toddler conversion until August because of problems at the factory. This is obviously not what we wanted to hear. Hope Lazar’s will have a loaner in the meantime. They have not yet offered it but I plan to check with them. I still think they are greatdespite e frustrations involved with the toddler bed conversion. My advice: get the toddler convrsion when you get the crib!

Lazar’s has a wonderful selection of beautiful nursery furniture. They were very helpful. One thing I appreciated was the fact that they actually returned your phone calls in a timely manner when contacted about the status of your order/​delivery.
My husband and I ordered some other furniture from another ‘high end’ store in the western suburbs (Western Springs to be exact) and were incredibly disappointed with the customer service. We felt flat out lied to about the status and arrival of our furniture when we were actually graced with a call back.
What I’m trying to say… is go with Lazar’s! Wish we would have ordered EVERYTHING for our nursery from them!

Absolutely love Lazar’s.
My wife and I researched and determined that we wanted the black City Mini Double stroller for our newborn twins. Once we made the decision, I called every baby store in the city and suburbs (all the ones you would expect) and none of them had it in stock. The last place I called was Lazar’s, and of course, they had one in stock (at the same price as all the discount stores). I immediately drove out there and bought it, after receiving great customer service and advice from the owner.
Lesson learned — since then, Lazar’s is the FIRST place we look for our baby furniture needs. A couple weeks after buying the stroller, we we bought 2 cribs there. They delivered them to our apartment in the city within a few days of ordering and assembled them in our room. We were so happy with the cribs, we’ve ordered the matching dresser, which is being delivered in a couple days.
It’s important to note that Lazar’s is for good quality furniture and products. I gather that if you’re looking for the cheap stuff (e.g., $ 200 cribs or $ 300 gliders), then Lazar’s isn’t the place for you. But it’s not ridiculous, over-​the-​top expensive stuff either. For example, our cribs were in the $ 500 range each, and they are infinitely better quality than the $ 200 Graco or Ikea cribs. Before we found Lazar’s, we paid $ 350 for a cheap-​o glider at Babies R Us. Now, in retrospect, I realize we would have been better off spending twice as much at Lazar’s and getting one of the many really sharp-​looking, high quality ones they offer. (Obviously I realize this isn’t an option for many people).
Bottom line — great customer service, great selection of high quality products, and great service, from the showroom through delivery. If their price point is right for you, then this is absolutely the place to go. And the bonus is that you’re patronizing a local, family-​owned business.

This is the first review I have ever written, and only because I feel so strongly about how terrible this store is! I ordered baby furniture, went in to pay for it and then recieved a call several days later that that the actual price was 2K higher. Now I understand mistakes happen, but there was no apology on their end. Horrible customer service, instead of offering me an apology they said that I had given them the wrong info even after I had spoken to them on the phone and went in person to pay. The price that they quoted me after they told me there was a mistake was 50 percent higher than any other store. I ordered elsewhere, and will tell all my friends to STAY AWAY from this place. Not a good way to run a business.

We just ordered our entire nursery from Lazar’s. I don’t agree with the other reviewers who say there isn’t anyone to help you. No, the staff doesn’t follow you around trying to push high-​end items on you. They greet you and let you look around and when you want assistance all you have to do is ask! I don’t want someone following me around, staring at me, waiting for my decision and making me feel rushed. If this is how you like to shop too then Lazar’s is for you.
They are not based on commission so they will never push you to buy. They have higher end furniture to very affordable. We visited a few months ago, took a booklet home to look at, and returned to make our purchase. Dionna helped us both times and ordering was very simple. Thanks for making our first nursery purchase simplified.

This was the perfect crib shopping experience! I don’t even know where to begin and I completely understand why so many of our friends with kids recommended this place.
The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful– informative about every product and not at all pushy. They seemed to pop up just when we needed them and offered all sorts of awesome help. From giving us a product pamphlet so that we could take it home and think about it, to checking inventory, to going out of their way to find out the dimensions of boxes– and our car– so we could figure out how to get it home (they offer delivery and assembly but we didn’t want or need it), they were above and beyond in helpfulness. We were there for an hour one day, left to think about it, and came back the next day for another hour to debate and decide (I was the indecisive one, really) The same lady was there and not once, in our hours-​long debate did she urge us into a decision, but took a very calm and supportive approach to helping us.
The cribs they offered were all very nice. The selection was awesome. They had cradles, bassinets and cribs of all colors, styles and prices (about $ 400 – 1,200 for the cribs we saw) We were originally considering a Graco or Delta convertible crib from Target, but I’m so glad we didn’t. The crib we ended up getting, was only a couple hundred more than what we would have paid at Target and the quality was much better. The slats on the sides of the ones at Target would give a little bit if pressure was put on them, whereas the Pali one we got from Lazars was sturdy when put to that test. The finish looks a lot nicer too.
They offered a TON of other stuff besides furniture– strollers, high chairs, car seats, diaper bags, potty seats, receiving blankets, bibs, just to name a few. Again, we were considering a Graco or Chicco travel system, but changed our minds while were were there. They have all the strollers on the floor (unlike other store previously mentioned), so you can test how heavy/​bulky they are and feel how they move. I wasn’t sold on the idea of a jogging stroller until I tested out the City Mini Jogger and fell in love with it. SO LIGHT! Will be back for that and will be opting for a snap n go frame for our car seat in the mean time. Will probably be back at Lazar’s for a lot of things.
AND final bonus points– they are very family friendly, offering a changing table and even a private nursing room if you need to care for baby while you are taking your sweet, un-​pressured time choosing your quality child care equipment.

We hit up a ton of furniture stores and Lazar’s had the best prices… and fantastic quality too! As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a smiling sales associate who showed us many different crib options. We were on the search for a beautiful fixed crib because my hubby was paranoid about the drop-​side crib recall. Fortunately, every crib Lazar’s sells happens to be fixed. Phew!
There were about 3 cribs that were just what we were looking for… and all came with matching dressers/​changing tables. The prices were great too– averaged around $ 1100-​$ 1200 for both a crib and a dresser. We did end up purchasing a crib/​dresser from Bellini instead, which was double the price, but we just really loved the look of it.
I do think we’ll make it back to Lazar’s over the next few months because they also have an impressive selection of strollers (Bugaboo, Orbit, Baby Jogger, and many others). They also had several books of bedding to choose from, including some of my favorites (Serena & Lily, Dwell). This store is a must for any of your nursery/​baby needs!

BEWARE!!!
My wife and I had our first child in January of this year. In early October, we ordered a crib and dresser from Lazar’s (from the Romina Collection) and were told they would arrive in approximately 12 weeks. We paid slightly more than $ 3K for both pieces. When we hit the 12 week mark we called the store and they told us that we would have both items within a week.
One week later, the items arrived, but as they were being assembled, we saw that they were delivered in a color we did not order. We called the store and spoke with Mark (who I believe is an owner). First, he told us that the color that was delivered was the color we ordered. When we pointed out the invoice, he quickly relented, but told us that we had no option but to wait 12 more weeks for new furniture to be delivered. Mark told us that he would allow us to retain the wrong-​colored pieces at no additional charge (despite the fact that we had paid $ 3K for the furniture already). What a deal!
We finally received our correct furniture, but not so much as an apology from the store. They told us they would put $ 150 back onto our card. However, the cost of delivery of the correct furniture was $ 125.
So, just to sum it all up, for all of the inconvenience we didn’t get an apology of any sort and had «gained» $ 25. They made us feel like they were doing us a favor by «letting» us keep the wrong-​colored furniture, despite the fact that our account had already been charged. WE WILL NEVER BE BACK.

My wife had to have a Teutonia stroller. That much I knew. What I didn’t realize is that you can only buy this place at like 3 places in the Midwest. And Lazars was by far the closest.
For the discriminating yuppies in the audience, this place has all your high end strollers and furniture. And the matching price tag to boot. While some might complain about the Lazars staff, I found them friendly and unobtrusive. Too many stores have salespeople following you and constantly trying to «help». At Lazars they take more of a hand’s off approach, which I personally appreciate.
Be prepared for a bit of a sticker shock and probably a 4 – 6 week wait if you purchase a stroller, but friendly folks with hard-​to-​find merchandise earn them 4 stars.

As a previous Unilocaler sez, they DO INDEED take forever to help you. However, I much prefer this over some PTA type following me around with slabs of Cherry, Honey and White stain samples. It’s a bit disturbing how the ritzy types line up on weekends – think Evanston post office at 11 a.m. on a Saturday – buying loads of furniture as if it’s a pile of $ 8 sundries.
But I digress…
I am a new mother, but I don’t want to be a mother for the public, just for my sweet boy, if that makes sense. I am honestly having a hard time adjusting. Hence, I like hands-​off stores. Enough about my neurosis…
Their stuff is pricey, but I don’t think terribly so, considering the quality. If you want something higher end, it’s not so bad. Children’s furniture is bizarre. There’s Babies R Us $ 299 stuff and there’s $ 1200 cribs and not a whole heckuva lot in between. I wanted an espresso sleigh crib, NOT from that hellhole Pottery Barn Kids who goofed up every order I placed and lo and behold Lazar’s had a gorgeous, flawless floor model for a reasonable price. There was a very minor problem with a piece once I got it home and they were so fast and helpful to fix it for me.
