History
Established in 1974.
The original Codman Family farm, «The Grange» was established in the early 19th century on the former estate of Chambers Russell, one of Lincoln’s founders. The farm was continuously run for over 150 years, with dairy, vegetable and fruit operations. it was one of a handful of working farms in Lincoln remaining after WWII.
Dorothy Codman died in 1973. Her will transferred ownership of the barns and acreage to the town of Lincoln. Through the hard work of citizens interested in continuing Lincoln’s farming tradition, Codman Community Farms, a nonprofit organization was established. Operating out of the historic barn complex, we have developed a minor and heritage breed livestock program that makes a valuable contribution to the preservation of commercial production of these breeds. We harvest hay on privately owned, town owned and conservation trust acres throughout Lincoln helping to keep land open and in agricultural use.
