At bare, we use food-​grade organic ingredients. Each bar is handmade, from scratch, in small batches and is genuine cold process soap. We do not use melt and pour or pre-​made bases. There are no chemical fragrances in bare; the lovely scents come from 100% pure essential oils. We have a full line of soaps from body to faces to pups to after gardening. History

Established in 1995.

bare soap was born in Connecticut out of a two-​fold pursuit: 1) I needed to find an all-​natural, organic face soap to clean my über sensitive skin after spending hours in heavy stage performance make-​up in my previous life as a professional classical singer, and 2) I had become very interested in pursuing a lifestyle that was more intentional, more organic, and more sustainable. After I experienced success with bare for personal use, I sold my wares on a small scale to friends and local shops around NYC and Connecticut. My performance and travel schedule left little time to grow a business, though, so bare stayed very small scale.

In the couple of years following 9÷11÷01, many things worked together to eventually land me in my now beloved Maine where I lived for nearly a decade. Maine is much more than just a spot on the map. It is a unique mindset/​way of living and being that works its way into one’s soul. bare grew and evolved and matured in beautiful Maine.
