The crème filled malasadas were good so were the regular malasadas. I would’ve given them five stars but they ran out of coconut turnover pies. I understand that that is an island favorite, but if it sells out so much, then increase supply. But other than that friendly service and good pastries

Where else can you find warm apple turnovers and filipino lumpia for breakfast? Wonderful small family-owned bakery on the west side of the Kukui Grove Center, just south of the Times Supermarket. They open at 6 a.m. and they have a constant stream of customers who come in early. The turnovers and lumpia were good. I especially liked the chocolate-filled malasadas. They’re a fried dough pastry that originated with Portuguese laborers from Madeira and the Azores who came to Hawaii to work in the plantations in the 1870s.

Stopped by here to try their apple turnover, as I had read that it was the best on the island. Unfortunately I was not that impressed. The outside was somewhat flaky, but the inside didn’t have much filling. It’s a small bakery located inside a shopping center. The service was also just average. I asked what the most popular malasada is, as they have various types, and the guy just told me what kind they have instead of giving me the inside scoop, so I ended up not getting any. I noticed that they had won several awards, but that was several years ago. Not sure if their quality went down since then.

I ordered a few malasadas both cream filled and chocolate. They were weird and I couldn’t finish them. You might enjoy them if you know you like malasadas, but this was my first experience and I will not be trying them again.

Went in and got 2 malasadas and a slice of their guava cake. Malasadas were delicious and not too sweet. Guava cake was so light, fluffy and refreshing! Great baked goods to be found here!

Only place we could find malasadas during our stay on Kaua’i. We went around 11am and the Malasadas weren’t warm/fresh. We tried the regular and the chocolate. Definitely wouldn’t go back for them. The guava cake was the best thing we tried, tasted like a fluffy fresh and cold Twinkie with just enough guava flavor to make it interesting. Definitely delicious. Wouldn’t make a special trip here but if you’re in the area and love white cake then id go for the guava cake. Also the service was very friendly and welcoming!

Best cinnamon apple bread I’ve ever had. Gooey and packed with cinnamon flavor. Enough said.

Really wish that the malasadas were made fresh instead of first thing in the morning and set to sit in the display case. My favorite was the cream filled one. Tried the plain and tried the chocolate filled — plain just. was plan. Chocolate was too sweet and too much. The cream/custard filled one worked out best for me. My wife fell in love with both their guava and lilikoi cake. Not too much cream, just enough flavor, and the cakes were super spongy and soft. Prices are great compared to the rest of the island. Come and joy some sweets and pastries ya’ll, but make sure you come early. We came in at 4pm the first time we stopped by and they basically had nothing left. When we came back at 1pm the next time, they were still stocked, so yeah — don’t come too late.

We enjoyed the malasadas. My husband enjoyed the plain ones but took a big bite of my chocolate filled one. I ‘d love to come earlier when they are fresh out of the heaven. If I had more room I would have gotten a piece of guava cake too.

Had some great malisada’s when we visited Kauai. Friendly people working there — stuffed a malisada with cream while I waited instead of giving me the one sitting in the display case. Went back several times.

All the pastries we purchased were delicious — especially the savory ones. Since the island has a lot of Ilocanos — we were happy to also find tupig there too! So good!

We got here in the early evening to try their malasadas. My husband looked it up on Unilocal so we decided to try their malasadas. As expected, there wasn’t much left and they were cold. We bought what was left which was two plain and two custard filled. They were light and airy and the custard cream was light and not too sweet. We will come back here next time in the morning to try them warm and fresh.

Good Malasadas that hit the spot and fast and friendly service, Kauai Bakery was the perfect stop on our road trip adventure through kauai. We’ve been back twice, just be warned that their Malasadas usually sell out by noon.

Crème filled malasada and apple turnover were winners. So glad because the first bakery we went to was a dud!

I can’t think of how to better spend $ 2.07 than buying a slice of guava cake from Kauai Bakery. In search of a number of things at Kukui Grove, we came across Kauai Bakery that’s tucked away in the back corner in the mall. The guava cake slice itself was absolutely divine and it got an immediate great reaction from my husband who constantly craves guava cake. We’ll definitely be back here again for that cake and maybe a few other things that look delicious(and available earlier in the day since by 2pm, things were on its way out).

3.5 rounded up. We came around noon so the malasadas weren’t fresh or warm which is probably why they tasted just«ok». I got the chocolate filled one, cream filled, and regular one. The«chocolate» was mousse-like and I would’ve preferred more of a pure chocolate flavor. They were kind of limp but for being that way, still pretty good. I would definitely want to try them fresh next time.

I picked up a chocolate filled malasada and 2 regular malasadas on my way to the airport. They were out of cream filled at the time I stopped in. The chocolate malasada was amazing!!! The regular malasada was also good but if I had to do it again I would get all malasadas with filling. The chocolate cream was perfect! It was chocolatey but not too sweet. Yum!

Tried the plain, custard and black bean filled malasadas. Wasn’t fresh, but then again got there around 8AM. The malasadas were good but like I said would’ve been better if they were fresh. Wanted to try their pork manapua but they only had cream cheese left. Get there early if you want fresh treats or go to Kauai Malasadas near KMart, those malasadas are made to order!

This bakery is located inside the strip mall & fairly easy to find because the mall isn’t too big. Plenty of parking in the mall parking lot. We came in the morning around 8:30& were greeted by some not so welcoming people, but that’s ok, I get they were just grumpy that they had to be up early. We ordered malasadas(sugar coated & chocolate filled) & honestly, they were just ok. They were probably fried a while ago so it kind of tastes like greasy dough. Still tasty, but not amazing. The chocolate filled one was piped full of chocolate cream, but it wasn’t sickeningly sweet. The sugar coated one was the better of the two. The real winner here is the haupia cream(coconut cream) cake! I saw a generously sized slice in the fridge for $ 3.89& thought to myself, what the heck, I’m on vacation so I can have cake for breakfast. So cake I ate & I do not regret it for one bit! The cake was super soft and light, the frosting was whipped cream coated with dried coconut flakes and there was a coconut cream layer on top. Everything together tasted like fluffy coconut heaven. I would definitely eat this cake again for breakfast, lunch, or dinner! 4 malasadas, 1 cake slice, &2 coffees set me back about $ 10.

It has been almost a year since my trip to Kauai so I figured may be I should write this review now especially when I wasn’t able to make it back here this year. Whaaa! Whaa! The bakery was located in a strip mall. Albeit a bit disapppointed that it wasnt the malasadas i wanted to get from the cart in front of KMart, I was actually happy I came in. Filipino owned, they bake fresh suman, cassava, Kalua pork, macadamia cookies, cinnamon toast bread, pigs in a blanket to name a few. I picked up a few items for us to snack on at the airport and plane. And you best believe I ordered two dozen malasadas as well. And pardon me but I ate two pieces once we got back in the car. It was soft and doughy with the right amount of granulated sugar sprinkled all over. So amazingly yum! Oohhh. .how I miss Kauai # happy # to #be # in #paradise
