Babysitters of Kauai

We were extremely impressed and pleased with the fast response we received from Pat McGary of Babysitters of Kauai to care for our five year old while we were staying in Hanalei. Pat, personally drove to our vacation rental herself on time and provided excellent, caring, competent care while our family enjoyed an evening out on the town!

Babysitters of Kauai is great! Mary has watched our little boy during both of our trips to Kauai in 2013 and 2014. She’s so great with him and it’s like magic to watch his eyes light up when she arrives with her sparkling, generous personality and giant bag of toys to keep him entertained. He remembered her a year later! They did so many fun things together — playdoh, walks to the goldfish pond, went to the playground at Poipu Beach, stamps and coloring. She even tucked him into bed for us! It was so sweet to talk to him the next morning and discuss all the fun things they did together.
We also had the treat of having Pat and her husband Fred over to sit another evening during our trip. It was so fun — like having the grandparents over :) You can tell that both Pat and Mary really care about the kids and love what they do.
It’s such a pleasure to be able to go on a worry-​free date night on vacation while knowing your child is in great hands!

We have used this babysitting service during our past 4 annual visits to Kaua’i. We have never had anything but a great experience.
Our only complaint on this past trip was that we got a sitter mostly to be with our infant, who naps twice a day, but our 3 ½ year old loved her so much that he preferred to be in the room with her rather than enjoying the outdoors with us! If that is the worst complaint you have while leaving your kids in someone else’s care then you are doing pretty well.
Pat (the owner) is responsive, helpful, and kind. We had the same sitter for our first three trips before she moved back to the mainland. We were concerned about trying someone new this time since we use mostly family for childcare at home and now we have 2 kids. However, Mary was wonderful, and the first time she took our 9 month old out of my arms, he leaned into her neck and declined to come back to me when I went to take him back. She has a way with both babies and toddlers, and our older son still talks about her on a near daily basis. This despite the fact that we have been home for well over a month now.
Needless to say we are particular about who we will let care for our kids, and we have never been anything but thrilled with Babysitters of Kaua’i. We will continue to call on Pat for sitters during our vacations for as long as our kids are young enough to need them.

The owner was super nice and very professional and took care of our needs. We booked a sitter for our 2 year old son for 3 separate occasions on our 10 day trip. The first night, we went on a dinner date. All seemed OK, but there were a couple concerns (bedtime not met and a situation we couldn’t say for sure happened, but are fairly confident). Our second time was with the same sitter and we went on an all day snorkeling tour. We gave specific instructions NOT to take our son swimming due to a number of reasons. There is a waiver that is supposed to be signed if you allow them to take them swimming and we DID NOT sign the waiver, in fact, the sitter didn’t even have it with her upon arrival even if we had wanted to. Upon our return, she was in a hurry to leave, which was a little strange, and as soon as she walked out the door, I asked our son if he had fun. He said, «Yep…we went swimming. Oh, sorry Mommy, I am not supposed to talk about that!» Needless to say, not only was I furious that she took him swimming without permission, but I was livid that she told our son to not tell us something. He’s only 2 for goodness sake! He spent the rest of the day saying, «Sorry Mommy, Sorry Daddy for going swimming.» The poor thing thought that HE had done something wrong. We cancelled our last appointment with her, too afraid to try another sitter from the same company, and simply took him on our romantic dinner with us. We had a wonderful time.
Again, Pat, the owner, was nothing but professional and polite and accommodating. I hope she has other sitters who are more capable of following instructions but we will not be using her services again.

Our concierge at the Sheraton recommended this babysitting service, so we checked them out along with several others. When we called to set up a babysitter while we went on a helicopter flight, we spoke directly with the owner of the business. Apparently, she sets up the appointments and sends babysitters out to the hotels to watch over your kids. However, she offered us to drop off our 14 month old son at her house becase she lives less than a mile from Blue Hawaiian Helicopters. It was very convenient to have him so close so that we could limit the time he needed to have a sitter. I think 3 hours was the minimum and the rate was reasonable. Pat McGary was super friendly and seemed to be great with kids… ours loved her and was playing contently when we returned to get him. I would recommend her while on Kauai.
