Performance Genetics is a company that specializes in the selection of elite thoroughbred racehorses by using genetic and phenotypic testing procedures. Based in Lexington, KY it has clients throughout the world who use its services to get them into the winners circle.

History

Established in 2011.

Performance Genetics was founded by Byron Rogers and Alan Porter, both well known industry participants with a strong background in pedigree analysis, horsemanship, physiology and computational biology. Thoroughbred performance is a complex trait and as such Performance Genetics is continually partnering with leading organizations to complete further research and provide better tools for its clients to narrow down the selection and make finding that rare breed of thoroughbred — a champion — a more consistent endeavor. While it is a scientific field, we also place an emphasis on using our horsemanship and experience in the thoroughbred industry to achieve a balance between the science and practical horse knowledge and horsemanship.

Business Owner

Byron Rogers spent eight years at Arrowfield Stud in Australia as Stallion Nominations and Bloodstock Manager, part of the team that developed the careers of leading sires Redoute’s Choice, Flying Spur and Danzero. Byron extended his industry experience at Taylor Made Farm in Kentucky, where for three years he served as director of their stallion division, managing the careers of the likes of Unbridled’s Song, Forestry, Officer, Forest Danger, Northern Afleet and Southern Image as well as joint venture stallions Tiznow and Speightstown. In 2008, Byron returned to Australia to accept the newly-​created post of national sales manager for William Inglis and Son, Australia’s leading Thoroughbred sales company.

In 2009, Byron resigned from this position to concentrate on TrueNicks LLC and Pedigree Consultants LLC, relocating back to North America. In 2011 Byron launched Performance Genetics LLC, a thoroughbred genetics company based in Lexington KY.
