This is animé option when you’re on uk campus. The price is nice and they have a variety of Greek and Indian options.

After leaving overseas, I spent the next 14 years looking for an authentic shawarma. I’ve tried it all, and keep in mind I’ve eaten home-cooked in Arabia. King Tut’s was it. I couldn’t believe what I was tasting. It was like that episode of How I Met Your Mother with the best burger in town, except shawarma.

I really pondered between a four and five star rating. I never knew there were so many Mediterranean restaurants to choose from in Lexington until I started searching for them. This place appears to be no secret to college students, as it is so close to campus. The parking is street/metered parking but was available during the lunch that I was there, a quarter for thirty minutes, not that big of a deal. I ordered the vegetarian platter at the recommendation of an enthusiastic frequent patron. She didn’t know that I’m on a mission to find my favorite Lexington falafel. I know that I have said this before, but this place now holds the title for my favorite falafel. The hummus was ok, I don’t really like it too oily and this was oily. The pita bread was very thin and a very small amount was given, but the huge size of the platter compensated. Oh yeah, they didn’t have a lunch sized menu or options so I wasted a bit but not because it wasn’t good.

Laughable. Amidst the warm, inviting Egyptian décor, you’ll find a passable palace of Mediterranean food. My trip was to get a quick bite to eat. The surrounding joints were run-of-the-mill and I thought why not get a falafel to break the mundane. So I get in from the cold and there’s another guy waiting at the counter waiting to place an order. Behind the counter, there’s probably 3 – 4 employees working at a modest pace… only occasionally glancing up. Guy in front me just walked out after we both stood there for nearly five minutes of not being acknowledged. I had a bit more patience, and soon after this guy left, someone took my order. The wait wasn’t look and the price wasn’t bad. The falafel sandwich was wrapped neatly, but lacking in much filling. The lettuce looked like it was just ripped in to pieces by a baby. The actual falafel was not bad at all, just very little of it for my taste. I couldn’t complain much for the quick bite, but the service and the food wasn’t wow worthy. Even when you’re in a bind, you gotta have some quality food. King Tut’s treasures were of mediocre value. Only a tomb you would raid if you were hard-pressed for time.

I had the Kufta. It is a lamb dish. It looks like a couple of oblong hamburgers, but is a different flavour. It is served with a salad or soup. I got babaganoush, instead. That is an eggplant dish that resembles a bean dip, but is way better. Ok. So the food was very good. It was prepared well. The rice was a little bland, and the babaganoush was a little spicier than I’m used to. I was expecting Tahini with the kufti, but received hummus instead. Overall, the meal was excellent. The flavours and serving size are perfect. The only detractor was seeing a roach. I can’t stand seeing them in restaurants. Unfortunately, it seems that most, if not all, of the downtown restaurants have them. This restaurant is in an old building that is surrounded by bars. I’m sure that doesn’t help with the critter control. I gave the restaurant 3 stars. Not common for me. It would have been a 4 if not for the crawling pet. I recommend it, if you’re downtown. I recommend Sahara, in Beaumont circle, if you can get there instead.

King Tut’s raises the bar with their incredible felafel. Very accommodating with plenty to eat, King Tut’s is easy on the wallet, and most of all, DELICIOUS. Highly recommend the felafel.

i really wanted to take my husband to happy falafel because he hasnt found his favorite mediterranean restaurant in lexington. But i chose this because it was .2 miles closer. Big mistake! The salad was oily and tasteless. I had to add salt an pepper which i rarely do. Most everything except the lamb kofta was bland. They didnt use spices especially on the rice and lentils. The staff was not friendly either. Fir the price, we were very disappointed. Next time I will listen to my gut and go to happy falafel.

As much as I’ve enjoyed their food in the past, I have a problem with their hours. In the past couple of months, I’ve attempted to visit during business hours and they were closed both times. There was no sign on the door addressing why they were closed either. And the last time we visited, it was a little after 8pm on a Monday night the person behind the counter rudely said they were closed even though there was someone in there dining. If they closed early because they ran out of food he could’ve said that, I would’ve been more understanding. However, it rubbed me the wrong way given the sign said they’re open until 9pm.

Came here for lunch since it’s within walking distance of work. I wasn’t expecting much to be honest, but I ended up being pleasantly surprised. Firstly, the portions were generous. Not crazy, but we really felt like we got our money’s worth. The rice was perfect, the meat was good, and the sides were tasty. I would avoid the salad and stick with the soup. The falafel pita looked so good I think I’m going to have to get it next time. The only bummer is that my plate didn’t come with any hummus, and I didn’t feel like spending another $ 4 for the appetizer. The garlic sauce that I did get was good though.

Excellent hummus, falafel, and kofta! I had pretty low expectations for King Tut’s, and it handily exceeded them. You get a ton of food without having to fork over much money, and it’s all good. Places like this have a tendency to make the food overly garlicky, or to have stale bread – neither were a problem here. And they had pickled radish!

Don’t expect fancy service or even non-disposable plates and utensils in this place. It’s a little rough around the edges, and the décor is super ugly in my opinion, but the food is pretty darn tasty and the right price. I’m not big on giant plates of schwarma, but the vegetarian platter has a lot of variety and flavor for about $ 7. That’s what I usually go for, and I have yet to be disappointed. Watch out for their tabbouleh salad, though. I have received partially frozen tomatoes and cucumbers. Ick.

King Tut’s is the best mediterranean joint downtown in my opinion. Yesterday I got the baked lamb special, which was really good. Their yellow lentil soup that comes with each entrée is still my favorite lentil soup of all time. The one downside is that hummus does not come with every entrée, you have to order it as an appetizer for an extra $ 4. Otherwise King Tut’s is just as good as Sahara out on Harrodsburg Road.

I walked into the place expecting to pay a little bit less, honestly. But I’m full now, and it was really good. I got the lamb kebab(which they call something different). Let me take this opportunity to say that it was probably one of the better platings that I’ve seen. For about $ 9, I got a salad, some pita and the lamb kebab plate with drink. The lamb kebab plate consisted of two generous lamb kebabs, about a cup of rice, some veggies and hummus. Salads usually suck, and this one was no exception to that. It was drenched in red wine vinegar, and had these toasted pita pieces which weren’t all that great. The rest of the meal was quite good. The lamb kebabs were like lamb meatballs, seasoned with cumin and garlic. They were seared to perfection and were moist. Combined with the rice and veggies, this meal was spicy and cool. The hummus was very smooth, and it made a great dip for the subpar pita. The place had a nice look to it. Modern décor. The service started off a little so-so, but the girl behind the counter was good about bringing the food to the seating area. I might bring a friend here for lunch, but the dinner prices are a little steep in my college-student opinion. It was good, exquisite in plating and preparation, but the food didn’t have that«wow» factor.

In a former Indian restaurant on Limestone, near campus, next to Two Keys. I had the chicken on a skewer with rice, salad, and pita bread. The place was not crowded due to the UK game, but I thought this food was good, not excellent, and fine for students on a budget. It’s about $ 10.00 per person.

Surprisingly spicy falafel. Decent shwarma. That is about all I can say for the sit in food. Fattoush lacks with its baked stale factory made pita. I’ve had the catered and they do a better job in the restaurant itself.

The falafel is nicely spiced and pretty tasty. I was a little disappointed in the fattoush salad, which was nothing special. I also strongly dislike prepackaged pita, but I suppose it’s asking too much for fresh pita in a fast/cheap place like King Tut’s. Overall, it’s a nice stop when looking for something quick near campus.

Great little place. I’m a big fan of Mediterranean food, and King Tut’s makes my mouth happy. I ended up ordering the vegetarian platter, which had a nice mix of items(mujadarah, falafel, tabouleh, hummus, pita, and your choice of soup or salad) for the low price of $ 6.95. Everything was delicious. The falafel are sized on the large-ish side, which is a plus. Nobody likes tiny falafel. Nobody. Additionally, the staff were friendly, and it’s nicer inside than I expected. They also have a nice-sized outdoor patio area. This place is about a block away from my apartment, so I’ll definitely be back.

Nice new option to get lunch from campus. I shared the grill platter with a friend which at $ 20 was enough food for three people, there were dolmades, falafel, various meat kababs, served with rice and a side salad. Everything tasted pretty good. Others in our group got the falafel sandwich and said it was good too(though perhaps slightly small). All in all a good place to get decent lunch from campus. I’ll definitely go back.
