Katahdin Woods

I’ve been living at Katahdin Woods for about 3 months and have to say, the experience has been great. The management staff couldn’t be nicer or more helpful — from my first telephone call, through the leasing process — it was very easy. Sandra is so friendly and efficient — the lease was drawn up quickly, all questions answered in detail. When I arrived to get my keys, I was given a welcome bag of useful items! I had a couple of minor issues that needed to addressed when I moved in, and they were taken care of the next day. This has been a great transition for me and am very happy living here.

I needed an apartment convenient to Cambridge, and could not be happier with Katahdin Woods.
First, the people who work here are a very special combination of professional, personable, and helpful. They assisted in every way they possibly could make the move in as seamless and stressless as possible. They know how to do this, and do it well, but also with personality.
The facilities — swimming pool, work-​out room, beautiful if not modest «club house» and grounds are immaculate, and perfectly maintained. The regular crew doing work on the property are friendly, and clearly take pride in their work.
I was worried at first that this would be a community of single people namelessly coming and going, but in fact there are many families here, and the bus stop is a busy one. This was important for me because my daughter would be attending school here. She, too, loves the activity of kids around, although, at the same time, everything is very calm and quiet. It seems as if most kids here are honestly busy doing homework!
We haven’t participated yet, but the staff organizes charming community events, which appear sweet and well-​run; the young children seem to particularly enjoy that.
The buildings themselves (solar-​paneled) are fine if not simple, and probably reflect the reasonable price of living here, but everything — again — is immaculate and well maintained. There is an almost Swedish sensibility to the structures — particularly the well-​functioning windows — that I like.
Overall, Katahdin Woods has been a wonderful surprise. The staff clearly work hard to make this a beautiful, safe, and happy place to live; it’s a great rental value.

I moved here nearly 2 years ago for 2 simple reasons: it’s within walking distance of my job and they allow dogs. I have 2 small dogs and I needed a walk-​in level unit. It took several months but they found one for me. So that’s why I moved in. Why I’ve stayed is principally due to the high caliber of the property staff, both the office staff and maintenance people. The apartments are nice and the grounds are lovely.
There has been a great deal of work being done over the past 18 months: new siding, new windows, now solar panels on the roof and that has not been entirely pleasant, but the management has done everything possible to alleviate concerns and address issues. In general the quality of the other residents is outstanding.
There are many families with young children here because of the high quality of the Lexington school system, and there are quite a few households with dogs. They recently instituted a dog DNA program to address the problem of people not picking up after their dogs (even though they provide bags and waste receptacles at several locations on the grounds) and that has been a huge success! It’s this willingness to embrace new things, new technology, and yet continue their focus on resident happiness that makes Katahdin Woods stand out among other apartment communities.
Yes, there have been issues, things break or don’t work as they should, but they are immediately and professionally addressed. I have never lived anywhere that the personnel were so professional, so responsive, and so concerned about the residents. And in the winter? The maintenance of the grounds: plowing, snowblowing, salting is exemplary. The maintenance guys and contract help when necessary work tirelessly to ensure access and safety of the residents.
And when there are conflicts with residents the office staff are sympathetic yet professional. Often these conflicts arise from residents who have either not read their lease carefully or choose to ignore certain legal provisions. Throughout every interaction the property managers maintain their composure and professionalism and that is why I’ve stayed. If you want or need to live in Lexington and want to be in an environment that is lovely and lovingly maintained and managed by true professionals, you could not pick a better community than Katahdin Woods.
