Econo Lodge

A frozen time warp of early 60s… with the mold and fuzzy analog cable to match. A true dump in every which way. Be careful on Hotwire… this is one the selected hotels.

Rooms were dirty (smears of dirt on the walls), mold on the ceilings and unsafe with electrical junction boxes left open. Our son with seasonal allergies ended up getting sick and we had to leave the next day instead of touring the area. Check in took almost an hour. Person in line ahead of us was canceling their reservation after seeing the conditions of the rooms. We switched rooms twice and couldn’t switch again as we would have missed the family concert at Tanglewood. We left unable to get into our room as the key would not work. We were promised the battery would be changed so we could enter when we got back late from the concert. After coming back very late from the family concert, we still couldn’t get into our room. Front desk called us after midnight and woke up the kids to offer us yet another room switch. Have not received one phone call back from manager Travis Cooper or current owner Sweta Pandya, after writing a letter and following up 3 times with phone calls. We were promised a significant discount for all our inconveniences, tons of apologies, promises of resolutions that never happened and excuses (co-​workers not qualified as being new and foreign). They gave us $ 40 off a room that cost over $ 201 a night. Have been in touch with the trip-​town board of health. According to Lenox town hall, they have heard of the many problems at this hotel.

This has been re-​named the Magnuson Hotel, but it doesn’t change the fact that this is the worst place I’ve ever stayed in. When I was checking in, there was a long line of people ahead of me – all complaining loudly. The eternal optimist, I figured I’d just cross my fingers and hope for the best. When we opened the door to our room, the smoke detector was chirping loudly. We removed the battery, but the thing would not shut up. We tried to call the front desk (Brenda: «Call me if anything is amiss») but the phone was dead. So, we removed the smoke detector and placed it outside our room. We later notified the front desk, but there it remained for our entire visit. The promised wifi was essentially non-​existent in the rooms, upping my data usage. I swear there were blood spatters on the wall behind the bed! Everything had accumulated rust stains and the entire property looked like it hadn’t been cleaned or attended to in this century.
The promised continental breakfast was a mix of cheap carbohydrates – and hard boiled eggs. Definitely disappointing.
If it’s the last vacancy and you’re going to Tanglewood, and all you care about it a bed and bathroom, go for it. But it was definitely NOT worth the asking price.

I give this place no stars but only because iI couldn’t post with anything less than 1 star. We were booked at another hotel for a tanglewood show but received notice less than 30 days before the show that the hotel we booked was closing so we were stuck booking at this hotel. We arrived to a lobby full of guests waiting to check in. While in line, other guests came back to see if their rooms were ready — they were told to come back at 4p only to learn their rooms were not ready. Other guests were in the lobby complaining that their rooms were double booked as other customers had entered their occupied rooms.
The hotel is rundown at best. There is no real system to check guests in, know which rooms were assigned, or know which rooms were clean and ready to be assigned to waiting guests. The pool was locked. One of the housekeepers had a dog with her while cleaning rooms. Despite being very nice, the family that was running the hotel was overwhelmed. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!

This is in the never again category. We stayed here (It’s now changed its name to Magnuson Hotel) to attend a Tanglewood concert. We booked a handicap accessible room months in advance. When we arrived, we had a room on the second floor (they have no elevator) and told us that they have no handicap rooms. They changed us to a room on the first floor. The door to the room didn’t lock properly when shut. We only found out about this after we got back from the concert, when our luggage and computers were in the room and the room was completely open to anyone who would have simply pushed the door. They «fixed» it for the night, with a promise to permanently fix it the next day. We also found dog food, a small plastic b-​b and part of a plant on the floor, so it hadn’t been vacuumed recently. We paid pretty good money for our one-​night stay, but certainly will not return. This property has real potential as a cool, retro place to stay, but without significant investment — soon — this place will only continue to deteriorate beyond its current sad state. Don’t stay here!

When manager sent me a form email thanking for my feedback, I contacted him asking to address my specific concerns. Never got a response. Just told me he was glad I enjoyed my stay!

Ok– my Mom and I make jokes about this place, like «how about we stay at the Econo Lodge in Lenox, MA, they are the most luxurious hotel ever» jokes. Wish that were true. They have trails of dust and litter that navigate around the hotel. It would be pretty bizarre if that happened naturally. I’m surprised that the water in the pool is still blue… Looks like a place where people dump their trash! Not to mention the rooms are dirtier than school cafeterias with BROKEN electrical outlets and things attached to the wall with TAPE! Come on Econo Lodge-​time to clean up and renovate your little dump in Lenox MA! Won’t be back. EVER!

our stay here goes back a couple of years ago, so maybe it’s improved drastically since then… Otherwise, this is the story: we needed a place to stay last minute near Tanglewood, and this was the only thing we could get. Given the situation, I was grateful. However that doesn’t detract from the fact that the place is gross, and we were definitely overcharged. I think someone else mentioned ‘dump’ and that seems just about right. First of all, the guy at the front desk had a black eye, and just generally seemed pretty worn out, though friendly. We had one of the rooms in the back and there was some gang-​banger looking guy sitting out there, chillin with his pit bull drinking a beer. Otherwise, accommodations were adequate. It was fine for sleeping and close to Tanglewood. Husband tried the complimentary breakfast, and it’s not recommended. Wouldn’t go back, not for the price. In retrospect, it’s a funny and bizarre memory, though not one worth repeating.

I got one word for you Econolodge Lenox, MA: deferred maintenance.
OK, that’s two words; get used to my sense of humor. But this place is a DUMP.
The bottom electrical socket in my room was not working when I arrived. The next day, the top one broke. I was told «OK, we’ll get to it tomorrow…» The breakfast room is FILTHY. I went in there at 5 p.m. to use a working electrical outlet. The tables were covered in cereal and crumbs from breakfast. Or perhaps that was the detritus from yesterday’s breakfast… or last week’s breakfast. You don’t really know with this place. The electrical socket in the breakfast room did work. However, management is too cheap to air condition the room — it was 80 degrees.
The bedsprings are quite noisy/​old. The shower heads are at the 5′ level so all but midgets have to bend over to shampoo one’s hair. The staff is Indian, and, of course, they do not speak English well. One of their employees tried to make a xerox copy of one of our credit cards. We said ‘no’ and he stopped. Ours was a pre-​paid deal. He could not explain what he was doing. The refrigerator in our room had two settings — ‘off’ and ‘all-​your-​stuff-​is-​frozen.’ The parking lot on the north side is taken over by weeds coming up through the cracks — looks like it’s not been paved for 25+ years.
I could go on and on. This place is a dump. There are a few cute/​inexpensive B&Bs to stay at in town for nearly the same price, and another budget hotel ½ mile up the street — all comparably priced.
Stay away from this place.
