History

Established in 1942.

San Diego Pet Hospital has been serving San Diego, Lemon Grove, La Mesa and Spring Valley pets and owners for over 70 years now.

In 2007, San Diego Pet Hospital was headed by Dr. Lisa Labrecque, a graduate of UC Davis Veterinary School. Originally a Northern California veterinarian, Dr. Labrecque is a compassionate and forward-​thinking practitioner who believes fervently in the power of the human-​animal bond. She envisioned a veterinary clinic that ispet-​friendly and owner-​friendly, where people want to come and spend time, and where animals are treated with the love and respect that they give unconditionally.

In 2011 Dr. Janna Kerins joined SDPH. She has quickly earned the love and respect of our many long established clientele. As a graduate of the prestigious University of Pennsylvania, she brings a wealth of knowledge and many years of hands-​on practice that we benefit from greatly.

Dr. Labrecque earned a B.A. degree in English from Tufts University in 1984 and then went on to a decade-​long career in publishing. In the mid 1990s she went back to school to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian. She completed the post-​baccalaureate premedical program at Mills College, then went on to U.C. Davis School of Veterinary Medicine where she earned her DVM degree.

Her past experience includes wildlife rehabilitation, working with African elephants, and research with sea urchins. She now devotes her time to small animal practice, rescue work, and spay/​neuter programs. Dr. Labrecque is a firm believer in the power of the human animal bond, and her practice philosophy reflects this theme.

On 12÷1÷15 we had to say good bye to our Miniature Pincher, Sahara. Words CANNOT express the loss of a pet. Words CAN express the APPRECIATION, GRATITUDE and LOVE my husband and I felt towards the San Diego Pet Hospital. Dr. Clore, Dr. Labrecque, Andrea, Monica, Ashley, Shandra, Kristi and Francine, thank you for your words filled with care and love during our sudden loss of Sahara. The card received is just what we needed. Everything occurred so quickly, but on that dreadful day everyone came together to provide a peaceful environment for Sahara. Hugs and support that day made an impact on our heart and soul! Thank you for all you did for Sahara.

I brought my new puppy here last week. He has not been socialized properly before we got him so he was very nervous going in. The vet sat on the floor with him and talked to him and played him for 20 mins before she even started her examination. They had toys on the floor for him. Even the vet techs were incredibly friendly. They came up with a small list of what Ruger needed shots, flee treatment, microchip etc. the vet tech then went through the list and we decided what he needed and what we could hold off on. I would highly recommend this place to anyone with a pet. They were incredible.

Found San Diego Pet Hospital on Unilocal after having a horrible experience at another vet. After reading all the wonderful 5 star reviews didn’t think I could go wrong and I was right. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Dr. Clore was amazing and very attentive. She listened to all my concerns regarding my dog and helped develop a plan of care. I really appreciated the time that was taken to hear my concerns and the development of a plan of care for issues my dog has struggled with for years vastly different from my previous vet, unfortunately hundreds of dollars later. I’m glad I’ve found this new vet and I think my baby Chacha has found a new home.

Recently moved to Lemon Grove and needed to find a new vet. Found San Diego Pet Hospital on Unilocal,read all the great reviews, and had to make an appointment. Brought one of our pitbull dogs in so far, and the Doctor (I believe her name was Lisa) was amazing! She took her time with us, made sure I understood everything (turns out she had an infection due to her allergies!) and got us set up on a plan to get rid of the infection and allergies! Could not be more pleased with the Doctor and front desk girls!

Dr. Chlore is hands down THE BEST vet I’ve ever encountered. I can see why this clinic has five stars. My dog Niko started experiencing back leg paralysis and luckily our normal vet was booked so we went on a search for a different one. Our first appointment here wasn’t memorable so when we scheduled our follow up I was glad to hear we were getting Dr. Chlore. She cares so much and listens to every concern. When she first arrived she introduced herself and sat next to Niko before the exam. She wanted to see our dog walk so we went outside and before we started Dr. Chlore made sure the ground wasn’t too hot. Next she explained everything and her thoughts about diagnosis. There was no trying to nickel and dime us, she actually went through prices of meds before finalizing her prescription. We had no intention of looking for a new vet but after getting such amazing and wholehearted care we’re hooked and will be transferring the rest of our pets over. Thank you Dr. Chlore!

Brought my newly allergic dog into see these guys at the end of the day. We had the last appointment for the day, and he needed a dermatology test to see what the heck was going on. He needed relief fast, and my work schedule isn’t super conducive to their office hours. The doctor asked if I could come back the next day but it wasn’t doable. She then offered to stay later than she needed to take care of my guy and find out what was wrong with him. You can’t ask for more than that. I know she had somewhere to be and I hope she didn’t miss to much, but that one gesture made me think the world of this place. We left with a few scripts and a check-​up appt in a few weeks, and the bill wasn’t as bad as it could have been, considering what they did for him. Honest care and fair prices. I’m happy to call this our new vet.

Found San Diego Pet Hospital on… what else, Unilocal because my pooch was having some issues with her ears and paw. The staff and Dr. Chlore were wonderful.
Lulu, my poodle mix is normally a little skittish, but because of the staff, she did really well. They dealt with Lulu’s medical issues.
The bottom line for most pet owners is cost. Although I paid a good sum, I thought it was commiserate with what they did, so no complaints here.
Two thumbs up and we WILL be back. Thanks again Dr. Chlore and staff!

We went to this hospital a few wks ago for the first time. We had an appt for our dachshund/​poodle mix and everything went great. she needed her anal glands expressed and some blood work done and everything went very smoothly. The Dr. and techs were very knowledgeable. The girls up front were real friendly and the prices seemed to be pretty competitive to other hospitals. We’re definitely coming back in the future.

This place is off to a decent start. After having to search on Unilocal for a new vet (my other one can never seem to get it right), I found SD pet hospital. I called in the AM and they said they could squeeze my 2 babies in later than afternoon. The vet had a great deposition and was very attentive to my 2 little dogs the only reason for the 4 star was because I had to wait about 35 mins pass my appointment time to be seen and my dogs were getting restless and irritable. Never the less I felt comfortable with the dr here and hope to make it my regular vet going forward. Keep posted for updates

My two kitties have been going to San Diego Pet Hospital since I moved to the area about a year and half ago. I really did not have a luck finding a good vet prior to this place. But I think I found a place where I feel comfortable and can take my animals to for a long time. The staff here are very nice, friendly and professional. I especially like my vet, Dr. Clore. She has been providing me a very warm support while one of my kitties is battling an agressive cancer… Dr. Clore sometimes returns my call to answer questions even when she is not in the office. This really shows that she cares and she truly understands the needs of pet owners.

Three years ago, our french bulldog had hurt his back. I took him to the VCA emergency hospital and they pretty much did nothing $ 700 later. So the next day I took him to San Diego Pet Hospital. They found out was what wrong with him and gave him the right medications. The next day he was back to normal. We have been taking our two dogs there for the past three years. We have moved away from the area but try to take them there still. The vet is nice and friendly and even though our dog terrorizes the place, she doesn’t care.

We have a very elderly cat who we got as a feral kitten. She has a lot of trust issues, hates to be picked up, you get the idea. We started going to SD Pet Hospital probably 5 years ago and we found our home. The staff and Dr. Lebreque are amazing and show the greatest compassion for my old kitties quirks. Dr. Lebreque also spends a great deal of her time helping to staff and run spaying clinics for people and animals in need. You will quite often find kittens in need of a new home in the lobby, waiting for the perfect owner to walk through the doors. I commend the vet practice, not only for their wonderful business, but more importantly, their sense of community and compassion.

I’ve been going here for few years now and love everyone there! I have 3 cats & a dog that have received AWESOME care every time I go. I recently helped my mom come to the tough decision of having her 13-​year old cat put to sleep & we were treated with so much compassion & comfort it was like being surrounded by family. All of the staff & Dr. Labreque were teary eyed! It couldn’t have been more peaceful & serene for our beloved Leo, myself & my mom… Thank you SD Pet Hospital!

My family and I have been taking our pets here for many years. We, and most importantly our pets, have always been treated with the utmost compassion, kindness, and care.
My cat was diagnosed with renal failure and the vets were so kind and understanding as I figured out what measures I was comfortable with in treating her, all the way up until the time came when I had to let her go. That last time I took her in to be put to sleep, they were so sweet and respectful and helped me say goodbye to my cat in the best way possible.
I’m a loyal supporter and will continue to take my pets to this excellent facility.

I have been coming to San Diego Pet Hospital with my two dogs for the past 5 years. The doctors and staff are always very caring and understanding when it comes to all my questions. I just recently adopted two new kittens, and took them to San Diego Pet Hospital for their first check up and vaccine appointment. My kittens did great and the staff loved them! I always feel welcomed when I go to San Diego Pet Hospital, and they always take really good care of my pets! I have recommended San Diego Pet Hospital to my family, friends, and co-​workers.

I love the service we receive from the caring doctors and staff. I’ve been taking my little Malti poo Star and they are always so kind. They are all about giving her relief and sending us home happy.

Decided to give this place a try. I needed my staffie fixed, 3 yr. old girl and also needed shots for my puppy. I currently have a vet in Chula Vista but the drive is far as I’m in east county.
Called to make the appointment and they explained in detail the cost of the procedure. On day of the appointment, they went over the procedure and gave me estimates. Also for my puppy, he got his first set of vaccines and exam. Dr. Labrecque was extremely polite and professional, she took her time. We were so happy with the outcome of my doggy’s spay. Dr. L even called on Saturday to see how my girl was feeling. So glad I gave SDPH a try, this is my go to vet from now on! They give you the estimates and everyone there was very professional and friendly!

I’ve been taking my cockapoo, Sammy, to San Diego Pet Hospital for about a year, and we absolutely love it and everyone there! Dr. Lisa, the two other associate veterinarians, the vet techs, customer service reps (love Andrea), and everyone else are awesome! They truly care about the well being of Sammy.
