History

Established in 1988

Dr Amorita Treganza started this practice in the 1940’s. She specialized in children who had learning disabilities. Her father was an architect, who built many of the houses in La Mesa and Lemon Grove. Dr. Treganza was the first president of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. Dr. Robert Sanet became her associate and took over the practice.

In 1985, Dr. Carl and Melissa Hillier became partners, and eventually took responsibility for the practice and changed the name to the San Diego Center for Vision Care in 1988.

The American Optometric Association selected this office to perform sports vision training for the United States Men’s and Women’s Volleyball teams. They credit part of their success to the vision training that was provided.

In 1992, Dr. Hillier was asked to develop the Vision Rehabilitation Clinic at Alvarado Hospital, where he still is on staff today treating those with brain injury.
