A week after warranty expired, every MINI Cooper thing going wrong! And I’m out of town. The wonderful owner here did what he could on no notice — free! It’s a little hard to see but between the auto upholstery and bait stores, with VWs parked outside.

This is a business that you can trust. Low key but very professional and knowledgeable.

I discovered Imported Car Service 10 years ago. After numerous failed attempts I finally found a trustworthy, knowledgeable and affordable mechanic. Stephan is an expert in his field. His crew is well trained and the atmosphere of this family run business is very friendly.
Whenever any issues arise with my Beetle, Stephan is quick to troubleshoot and his crew ready to work. Stephan is sure to explain what the service would entail and calls when other concerns need to be addressed. On average, my car is ready to be picked up within the day.
At 48 years of age, my VW runs great! All in all, as long as Imported Car Service has it’s garage doors open, I will always know that my car will receive honest quality work from the best mechanics in town!!!

Just dropped off some parts with Stephen. I went to two other places to get this work done and one shop couldn’t do it and the other guy didn’t want to do it. I called around to a few other places and finally decided to call this place. I’ve never been there and barely realized it existed a couple of years ago. I noticed all the Vdubs outside. I googled them and found the phone # online. Called him up based on some Unilocal reviews and they were right. The dude is cool knowledgeable about VDubs and showed me the correct tool that was required to press out the ball joints on my 69 Westy. Hope to pick up my trailing arms with the new ball joints pressed in later today.
Picked up the ball joints and they looked great. put them back on my westy and she couldn’t be happier. so as long as she is happy then i’m happy.

I am the proud owner of a 1973 Baja Bug. It’s in good shape, but like all 40 year old cars, sometimes it needs a bit of work. I am a relatively experienced mechanic in terms of diesel, and most other gas engines, though the air cooled are new to me. Much of the work I do myself, and as a result, I am hard pressed to go to a «real shop» and have someone else do work for me. I’ve been back several times to see Stephan and the guys at ICS. The first time was to get rid of the dreaded first gear bog. I assumed that the carb needed to be re jetted. Stephan confirmed that he would re jet the carb, check the squirters, and get it running tip top. He did this in a good time frame, and at an extremely reasonable price. My bug runs tip top now. Later, the brake master cylinder went out, and without hesitation, I called, dropped it off the same day and got it the next afternoon. These guys are top notch mechanics. I like that they are willing to listen to what the customer says, and accept their input. Both times when I was quoted a price, he came in right at, or under budget. They do phenomenal work, and are very reasonable with their pricing. As a mechanic, I know for the most part, how long a job will take, and often times I don’t feel like the billing is fair… but never with Stephan and the guys at ICS. If you have a vw and it needs work, I’d recommend these guys any day of the week. With good, German parts, knowledgeable and friendly staff, great rates, and honest professionals who never recommend unnecessary work, Imported Car Service is the place for all your VW maintenance, repair, and service needs.

My mother-​in-​law has been taking her vehicles here for 20+ years, so when I needed work done on my car, I knew where to go. Super honest and fair priced! Stefan always does a great job!!! I’ve never had a problem with any of the work he has done on either of my cars.

I recently moved away from the Lemon Grove area, and I definitely miss Stefan and the crew at Imported Car Service! As most older VW owners are aware, these cars have their fair share of problems. Stefan and the crew are more than fair with pricing, and they don’t perform work on your vehicle unless it’s absolutely needed. It is a no frills type of garage, but they don’t keep you waiting and are very attentive. As a woman, I trust them and found they were great at explaining problems/​repairs. I don’t hesitate to recommend them!

I have been using these guys since around 1981. In that time, I have never had a problem. They have always been honest, fair in their pricing, and pleasant. I wouldn’t take my VW anywhere else. Plus it’s a great family run place.
