History

Established in 1984.

In 1978 James Donegan started working with Forman & Biller Tree Expert Company, one of the oldest established tree services in northern Virginia (est. 1920). They worked on old trees in spectacular places: French Ambassador’s residence, Mount Vernon, the Naval Observatory and several embassies, where Jim Biller took the time to teach James how to care for the trees as well as the clients. James then went on to learn the «sales & quality» side of the business as a crew leader for Fairfax Tree Service, and then started Donegan’s Tree Service in 1984. James Donegan was one of the first 100 people in the Mid-​Atlantic area to become an «ISA Certified Arborist,» earning him contracts with the White House working on some of the oldest trees in the area. James’ passion and love for trees continues to this day, and the learning never stops. Donegan’s Tree Service is committed to serving it’s clients with the very best tree care possible.

I work in this industry because I love caring for trees and being out in nature and that passion has only grown over time. Trees give us the breath of life. They provide us with shade in the summer, make excellent wind screens, food for wild animals, habitats for birds, and the list goes on and on. Most people don’t notice them until one falls on their home or car. Your trees should be inspected every other year for hazards or pruning by a Certified Arborist. We do a complete inspection of your trees to detect any potential problems. We look for stress cracks or girdling roots that can strangle out the vascular cambium. It’s very important to have any major deadwood removed, not only for the health of the trees but for saftey in areas where children play or there is high traffic, people or vehicles are present. Tree pruning improves the trees vigor and healthy root zone. Donegan’s Tree Service will provide the ultimate in diagnosis, repair, maintenance and beauty of your trees.
