Had a solid meal here. Cheese dip, salsa, papusas, tamales, and arepas were all good. The arepa dough was a little heavy for my liking but overall a great dinner. I would skip the crunchy tacos and stick with the soft. The crunchy ones were fine, just very light on filling. Service was a little slow but very friendly.

The people who run this place are adorable! The man reminds me of a soft spoken version of the actor Fred Armisen. For the region, the food is ok. The problem is that their spices are too timid. They put sour cream on everything, which is a disappointing substitute for actual flavor. I got carryout, brought the food home, then added spices.

Had dinner here tonight. It was great. I asked the waiter what to order and he recommended an Argentina entrée of plantains with black beans and shredded chicken. Spectacular. I also had a Lime Colata for dessert. This is a small family restaurant. They made everyone feel welcome. Will be going back.

Whoa! You must go and tell your friends/neighbors/family to go. We need to support this jewel. FRESH ingredients. SUPERB flavor. In this city filled with boring chain restaurants, this is a welcome discovery. The hot salsa made me crash my diet as I dipped into the freshly made tortilla chips that were not too salty and fried just right. The photos on the menu don’t do the food justice, so there, suprise. Cheese sauce on the chimichanga’s burst with flavor — this is NOT that gross orange runny stuff that most restaurants pour out of a giant can. If you are a good cook, you will say this food tastes homemade. Homemade is the best. Sabor Latino is the bestest.

This place was ok, my husband especially didn’t like it ! We both had el pastor tacos & carna Asada tacos and pork pupusas for a appetizer, the pupusas was the best part but the tacos were just ok, we make our own at home that have better flavor.

Had dinner here for the first time and it was amazing! So many great dishes to choose from I could not decide what to get. Can’t wait to come back to try the dishes I didn’t get to try.

This place is awesome! The service is genuinely excellent because the owners work their and wait on you. The food is authentic and very tasty. The menu has several south and Central American items you won’t find at other in of the mill La-Magueys. And they make it a family friendly place too. Not designed like a palace inside, just a utilitarian place to enjoy a great meal. Owners look at your face and really care that you enjoy their food and want you to come back to become a regular/friend.

I had high hopes, but they were quickly diminished. Based on the previous reviews, who would’ve thought? Like it or not, I’ll break it down, and you decide on your own. We didn’t slouch. Ordered a variety of their signature tamales, Mexican, Honduran and Venezuelan. All I can say is lotsa, lotsa masa. Little filler with no thriller. We didn’t stop there… we ordered the appetizer platter, empanadas, patacones and arepas. Everything had a very bland flavor. Everything on the app platter was overly fried. They were out of every meat with the exception of shrimp, so we either had to choose between that or beans for filler/topping. Needless to say we were not impressed at all. Very sad because I always want to support local businesses. The best thing I ate was their salsa. Congrats on making the only free thing good.

One of a kind place! Food from Central and South America, not just Mexico. This is a very small place with only a handful of tables so be patient. The owner, who I think is also the chef, is very friendly and explained the items on the menu as they are not as recognizable as Mexican food. The papusas were great and very cheap. They had a ceviche that day that came with plantain chips. it was phenomenal! Better than I’ve had in fine dining restaurants. Again, very small place, they even ran out of menus when we were there, but I am a pretty laid back diner. Give it a shot!

Today was the first time I was able to stop by the new location. Not too crowded for an early Saturday lunch. A welcoming greeting and a personal explanation of the dishes along with a description of the day’s special, tortilla soup made me feel comfortable about ordering. The soup was amazing — fresh and full of flavor. It came with a beef crispy taco, also fresh and delicious. Also ordered some pasteles, a little brother to my favorite — empanadas. I took half the order home for dinner and wished I had gotten more! The ambiance is plain, as is the food, but in a good way. Do not overlook this fantastic Latin experience either for lunch or dinner. It will become one of your go to places immediately.

Very basic restaurant facility. There have not spent a lot of money on amenities. Paper napkins., older chairs tables and booths dropped into a small strip mall setting. However, the food and service was unique and awesome! Prices and serving size was reasonable. Will be coming back.

We ate here last night after hearing about it. We’ve eaten Venezuelan, el Salvadoran, and Honduran food before and were excited to see a restaurant open in Eastern Jackson county. We were greeted by the owner who explained all of the dishes and gave us recommendations. We tried several al la cart items, shrimp arepa and pork and cheese arepa, several pupusa, empanadas, and Mexican tamales(they were out of the Honduran tamales). All of the food was very good, although the pupusas could’ve used a little more salt. It was a ton of food and we had plenty of leftovers. You could tell the owners take pride in what they are doing. We will definitely be back.

We first ate at this restaurant when it was in an old strip center in Independence just after they opened their doors. Loved it then, loved it again this visit. The service was great. The owner took the time to explain the menu which is a combination of food from Mexico and various South American countries including Venezuela and Peru. I had the Plantain Rellenos which was both beautiful and delicious. We also tried the enchilada plattter, empanadas and some corn tamales that are like little corn pudding cakes that were soooo delicious! My suggestion; stick with the more exotic menu items. That’s seems to be what they do best. Also, ask for the off menu Venezuelan spicy sauce! This place is tucked away so you’ll need your GPS. I hope the new, harder to find, location doesn’t heart them. Ambiance could use some work for sure.

The food is authentic and the service was amazing. The flavor of everything was excellent and I highly recommend this place. Get the horchata to drink, sweet plantains or the beach plantains for appetizer and almost anything you want for dinner. It is all good. We went back for lunch the next day after we had dinner there. Delicious!

Never disappointed! We decided to try this place on a whim because it was near by. Have been back several times and it has turned into one of our favorite go to places. Food is always good and the prices are awesome!

We’ll be regulars at this restaurant. The place is owned by a courteous and super nice couple(from Mexico and Venezuela). I’m from Venezuela and I consider myself a pretty good cook. Well, the food in this place rocks. The black bean soup and chicken soup are REALLYREALLY good. Their empanadas are the best I’ve tried here in Missouri. The arepas are baked and they’re soft, puffy, crunchy and amazing. We ordered so much food, we had to take some home. There was NOWAY I was gonna let that food go to waste. At any rate… if you want authentic Venezuelan(and Mexican) food eat here. You won’t be disappointed.

I really, really, really wanted to like this place. A local, apparently family owned restaurant, that offers authentic Latin American food, not just Mexican. There seem to be very few places that offer Latin American food, being from the Caribbean I was thrilled to find a place that offered familiar food. Unfortunately, our experience was pretty disappointing. The location is pretty small, and sparsely decorated. Upon arriving a man at the cash register(I’m assuming it was the owner) gestured to us indicating that it would be a few minutes, all their tables were taken. Luckily, a table cleared and we were seated, after about ten minutes. They have a pretty varied menu, with quite a bit of Mexican items, as well as many south amrican offerings. The servers were extremely friendly. But, even with the relatively small setting it was a little slow, and fit wise after we ordered our food. After we placed our order the place started clearing out, but it still took an inordinate amount of time to get our food. I ordered the yuca player, I have to admit that the fries yuca was probably one of the best I’ve had, but the meat that accompanied it was sparse and really small. Also, my plate came out way in advance of my wife’s. I could’ve eaten my meal twice in the time it took for her burrito to come out. She had the burrito with pork al pastor, it was quite unremarkable. I’d be willing to give it another try but would stay away from their Mexican food, there are already plenty of other, better, Mexican joints in the area.

As you walk in you immediately know you’re in an authentic South American restaurant, with S American music playing throughout the restaurant(perhaps a little too loudly!?). We started with the Petacones for an appetizer as well as a cheese Papusa(which was not on the menu, but they will make one for you by request). The Petacones are amazing! Fresh! Flavorful! The Papusa’s are very good too(with some of their hot sauce on top). For my meal I had the Platano Rellano, it was very good tip: it is a little on the sweet side due to the plantain on the bottom. The ingredients on top are fresh and flavorful! Our server(perhaps the owner?) was so sweet, so concerned about us enjoying ourselves and the food she was brining out to us as well as being surprised and happy that we knew/had eaten some of the menu options before. She was so sweet and kept very busy during our late Saturday afternoon lunch. We will be returning as I am already craving the Peracones again!

I found this gem on accident while doing business in Lee’s Summit. I am rarely in that area and try to find restaurants whenever I visit. I am SO happy that I found Sabor Latino Meals and new favorite authenic Latin place. After reading all of the wonderful reviews, I had high expectations. Reflecting on my experience, I can definitely say all of those expectations were surpassed! Ok now to the actual review… we had the wonderful Tostones as an appetizers and the Mar y Tierra and another dish which included plantains, chicken and black beans. It was all fantastic! We finished with Tres Leches for dessert and it was honestly the best I’ve ever had. We had the opportunity to speak with the owner, who was great, which made us like the place even more. He was so passionate about his restaurant, the food and quality he provides and making sure that all customers have a great experience. I truly love having experiences like this, especially with smaller business owners. The service was great and so was the atmosphere. The location and décor are clean, simple and quaint which is absolutely perfect when you’ve got such a phenomenal menu. I’m definitely going to be going back to Lee’s Summit just to have another great meal-business or not.

Wonderful little place! I had the pabellon, Mrs. had fish tacos. Got yuca for a starter. Excellent texture! Our plan is to go clockwise and try each of them. The plantain with my meal was wonderful too. I know they just moved in, but I knocked off a star for décor, or lack thereof. As well, starter was served with the meal. Awkward pacing. Al, the owner, is a warm and gregarious host. Be prepared to nicely be forced to be honest about your experience! Long and short of it, we will return!

It’s good to experience a new place with food you’re not familiar with. What’s better is to really like it. The Latin American choices on the menu weren’t familiar to us, but the waiter helped explain the items. The Patacones appetizer was excellent(fried Plantains topped with various toppings and a great creamy, spicy sauce). We also had Pupusas and Pabellon(shredded beef with rice and beans). They’ve only been open a month and the walls and décor are rather drab, but the food and service was great.

Since we moved to Missouri, we have been craving some Home(Puerto Rico) food. We couldn’t find it but we did find something really similar. Sabor Latino meals gave us a little taste of home. Their food is absolutely DELICIOUS!!! We had Tostones for appetizers, and Mar y Tierra & Platano Relleno for lunch. We were blown away by how tasty and good everything was. We also drank some natural juice, which also were amazingly delicious! Oh! And I must not forget about the Margaritas!!! So GOOD! The owner, cook and waitress all were very welcoming. The owner took time to chat with us and explain every item in the menu. Food is fresh and prices are excellent. The restaurant just opened, so its a simple and humble place with a lot of potential. Looking forward to going back!!!

Delicious! Quiet! Reasonably priced! More varied than just Mexican. Truly a treat. I’ve never written a Unilocal review before and apparently Unilocal thinks longer is better. They are wrong. This is a great place to eat with great service. in addition it is one of a kind, not a chain. This is the best place I’ve eaten in Lee’s Summit in years.

When it comes to authentic Latin American food, this is as good as it gets! Not a Mexican Restaurant, but the classic favorites from several different Latin American countries. For example their Honduran Tamale is superb. The Pupusas from El Salvador are spectacular. Plus great selections from just about every other country in Central and South America. Yeah, their location isn’t out on a hot spot corner, but they are well worth the visit. And you simply won’t find friendlier service. They truly are grateful for your business. And nope, I’m not at all associated with them. I’m just happy to have found them in my neighborhood.
