Dr. Fields is competent but the billing scheme they use is to me unacceptable. I had an annual exam with contact lens exam, presented my insurance card before the exam and paid a co-pay before I left. A month later I received a bill for an additional $ 63 dollars. They told me the claim was denied by insurance. I have insurance through DHMC which is one of the largest employers in the area and anyone who accepts their insurance plan should be familiar with what is covered by October. I find it in unacceptable to pay out of pocket more than $ 100 for something that should be covered. If you are just visiting for a routine yearly check-up I would visit someone else or expect a large bill. Oh, and the extra charge is for refraction services, which you can google. That’s the part of the exam where they ask, 1 or 2. My husband with Dartmouth College insurance also received the same bill after his visit in November. He was just going for a check up as he does not wear glasses. There would be no need to ask him 1 or 2 as he has 20⁄20 vision.

My family saw this optometrist some time ago when he was at DHMC. It was a weird experience. He seemed rushed and argumentative, and then seemed as if he were falling asleep. He was also arrogant and went on about how qualified he was. I didn’t feel we received good care, so I switched providers. That’s about as much detail as I feel comfortable giving, considering the responses this provider has posted to other Unilocalers’s low reviews! Nothing disastrous occurred, but personally I can’t recommend this optometrist.

After my second visit I won’t go back. Doctor is very qualified but the whole experience for me was unpleasant. I find the staff to be odd, the most polite word I can use. I did not expect to be there for over an hour for a routine annual exam with zero issues. I sat in the exam room waiting for the doctor for 20 minutes and when I arrived there was no other patients in the place. I also felt the exam was expensive.

Pros: Chris Fields, friendly staff, some affordable frames. Dr. Fields also really takes the time to listen to you; you never feel rushed. Cons: I’ve never been seen there on time. I usually wait at least 30 minutes to be seen. Also, the time when I was seen in about 30 minutes happened after I asked how long the back log of patients was before I would be seen.

I am sad to have to agree with the other reviewer of Fields of Vision. I went there under the recommendation of my eye doctor, Peter Lapre. I just needed my Rx filled and I wanted to buy two pairs of glasses. It was a Saturday, so I am not surprised that they were busy. But the lady who helped me inspired little to no confidence in their abilities. She was helping me and two other people at the same time. She simply told me a final price, without explaining anything to me. Worst yet, I was asked to come back as she was not able to verify my insurance coverage. She said she’d call me on Tuesday, two days from my visit. Tuesday came and went. Another Tuesday came and went. Nothing. Needless to say, I am not coming back. Too bad.

I was impressed by a pair of glasses I saw there when they first opened and tried several times to get my care changed to their office. The staff is very friendly in person but doesn’t follow through when they promise things. Combined with the erratic hours they are open and the fact that I’ve made three trips/calls without any response, I’ve given up trying and just made an appointment at a place in WRJ –and it only took one call.
