Breast surgical oncology specialist Nasim Ahmadiyeh, MD, PhD, is a board-​certified surgeon as well as a PhD in neuroscience with a focus on complex trait genetics. She brings a breadth of experience and background in breast cancer research and academics as well as patient care. Dr. Ahmadiyeh most recently served as clinical instructor of breast surgical oncology at the University of California, San Francisco. She has published extensively in peer-​reviewed journals, and serves as a peer reviewer for professional publications. Dr. Ahmadiyeh has received numerous awards for her work and research including the American College of Surgeons Excellence in Research Award, and is currently the principal investigator on a Department of Defense breast cancer grant. Her research interest is in cancer genomics, with an emphasis on understanding inherited susceptibility to breast cancer, functional characterization of inherited risk, and translational work that improves risk stratification and prediction. She enjoys working as part of an interdisciplinary breast care team to offer patient-​centered and personalized care. She focuses on delivering care that is tailored to the unique biology of each patient’s tumor as well as takes into account each patient’s goals and preferences.

Established in 2013.

Dr. Ahmadiyeh has specialized training in sentinel lymph node biopsy, oncoplastic surgery, and total skin-​sparing mastectomy (nipple-​sparing), in addition to more traditional approaches. She earned her doctoral and medical degrees from Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. She completed her general surgery residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital at Harvard Medical School in Boston, her research fellowship at the Dana-​Farber Cancer Institute also in Boston, and her breast surgical oncology fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco.
