Jasmine Thai Restaurant

I really like this place. Jasmine Thai has become a staple meal with my grandma and we both really enjoy the food. Well priced and good size portions.

A good restaurant, the dumplings are more dumpling than filling. And they are slow in coming out. The food was ok, nothing to write home about.
Our server had to be asked for more water. The wine is pricey and not a great quantity.
We would not return if we were in the area.

Hands down the worst oriental food I’ve ever had. Brown sauce came in a box I’m sure. They call themselves «pan-​asian» but they had neither fish sauce nor hot sauce.

I visited this restaurant due to being in the area. I found it on Unilocal. (Thanks, Unilocal).
I was promptly seated by a very kind server. The place was empty, rightly so, it was 4:30 PM on a Tuesday.
I was immediately seated. The restaurant is small, but nicely decorated. The menu was provided. I ordered vegetables with white sauce, and white rice with jasmine tea. I must say, the meat entrees were plentiful, but I was also pleased with the choice of vegetarian entrees. They serve a small salad, and Chinese chips. I ordered crab rangoon, and it is by far, the most heavenly crab rangoon in town… omg, delicious.
I received my food quickly. The tea was served in a teacup, with several servings. The service was really good, and I enjoyed the food. The vegetables: broccoli, sugar snap peas, mini corn, water chestnuts, carrots, in a mild white sauce were delicious.
It’s a quiet restaurant, in a nice location.

Pretty good. Very large portions. Price reasonable. Great selection of standard Oriental fare as well as Tai specialities.

I’ve been going to this place for lunch for two years, and it has slowly been going downhill. It use to have amazing, delicious, flaky, yummy crab rangoon. I swear, I had dreams about them. But they have been replaced with hard, tasteless, TINY ones. They’re just like the ones you get at Panda Express.
I always order the Panang Curry, and thankfully, it hasn’t changed a bit since I started going there. Always tasty.
The dining room is nice, and feels a little fancy for lunch. It drives me INSANE that they use scented candles on the tables.

Completely shocked at my experience today during lunch at this restaurant. I have certain medical needs and the staff and manger was not helpful in any way. We will never return to this restaurant again. Their continued response was that it was «too difficult» to prepare a smaller portion. Plenty of restaurants willing to accommodate my needs. Ambience is good but food is bad. Rice tested like reheated. Overall quality of food is horrible.

Just the facts, maam.
Standard fare here. For the price, though, quite nice. Want good chinese or Thai? Well, good chinese is a rare feature in Kansas City, sorry to say, so standard is quite good. As for Thai, well, I can name a couple of places in KC that do better, but if you are in the Leawood area, this works well.
I’ve brought my partner Bill Gannon here a couple of times — he thinks it’s nice for the price as well.

Our family has been ordering take-​out from Jasmine Thai since opening. We have experienced a steady decline in their food and today’s order was so bad that we returned it after about 2 bites. $ 38 is too much money to spend on food that is flavorless and doesn’t match the description on the menu. We ordered in the middle of a Saturday afternoon, and the restaurant was not busy at pick-​up. Chicken Satay appetizer was made with steamed chicken tenders that had been refrigerated, marked on the grill (set on the grill to give them 3 – 4 grill marks), and then covered in a flavorless yogurt sauce; they were still cold in the middle. Our two entrees had been steamed and then smothered in glue-​y sauce. The vegetables were soft, and nothing (including the chicken and shrimp) had been browned or seared in a wok. This isn’t about the level of spice or heat, its about using lazy cooking methods to fool the public. The sauce was an attempt to disguise the food. Hey, we can open a can of Chinese food if glop covered in sauce is what we want; even the Asian food at the grocery store deli is better than what we got today. Not authentic, not as described on the menu, and not worth the money.

I like their store design. It is surely a good place for romantic night out. Yes, they do have candle on the table, but only light up when people are seated (or sometimes, they forget.)
The food is okay. Not really authentic Thai food. More mixed of Chinese/​Thai food.
However, the store music is too loud in average. It really deducts the point of the romantic feelings. The couple can’t really hear each other talk because of restaurant music. I can tell they carefully choose the Asian non-​vocal music as good background music, but when «background» music become the «main theme» and «too up beat» of the night, it destroys the romantic feelings they try to create. Too loud or too fast music makes people nervous when eating at a nice restaurant.
Good for quick eat out, but if you are seeking authentic Thai food or authentic Chinese food, go to the ones that experts in just one area. I agree with other reviewers, focus on one specific ethnic food, and makes it really good. Then, the business will be much better.
Don’t think Midwest Americans don’t know what is real authentic foreign food. Americans do know, and can distinguish what are the good restaurant that really put their heart into their food, instead of just using cheap ingredients while sell too different names but similar platters.
The store interior is well designed, I like to see it keep going.

Wow, I’m way behind on this review… it’s been several weeks since I ordered take out from here… and I’m only now getting around to writing the review.
First things first… can’t really tell you what the waiter service would be like as I ordered take out (an extensive amount actually so that I didn’t have to cook the rest of the week), but what service they provided over the phone and when I went into pick up was very nice.
On to the food then… First I have to agree with some of the previous reviews about the Thai heat scale, definitely not what you would expect. The medium wasn’t as hot as I would have liked or expected. But overall decent. I ordered the Chicken Satay and the Shrimp spring rolls to start — very good, but I think the spring rolls could have been better. Granted it might have been that I ordered take out… it wasn’t as fresh by the time I got home and around to eat it. As for the Panang Curry, Pinapple Fried Rice, and Phad Thai… where to I start and what do I remember…
Honestly, it’s been far too long since I ordered food from here, but I can tell you that it was good and that I’ll definitely return. And of course, make sure to post my review in a more timely manner. I promise!

There is absolutely nothing Thai about this place except the name and some of their ingredients. Everything I’ve had here had a Chinese aspect to. The basil wings were the worst I’ve ever had, more like teriyaki wings with basil throw in, the flavor of the basil doesn’t even come through in the sauce they use. Very salty as well, flavors weren’t consistent throughout the dish. Everything else is just mediocre. I agree with some of the other reviews. Don’t waste your time if you want REAL Thai food.

Great chicken fried rice and wanton soup! This place is freaking cheap and awesome, the quantity they provide is good and the quality and the ambiance is great too. Very reasonably priced! Decent service although one of the waitress here was kinf od rude to me. But otherwise i think this place is awesome.
Will definitely recommend this for anyone for thai food.

Not atmosphere, although I got carry out.
Thai is in the name, but don’t be fooled. Tom Yum soup tasted more like Chinese Hot & Sour. Basil stir fry tasted more like Kung Pao. Not that either of these dishes would be considered bad, it just that it was not Thai and that is what my taste buds expected.
My suggestion would be to change the name and the menu. Stop trying to be everything and focus on being good at one thing. If you want Chinese food, go. I may try it again when I am not craving Thai.

My wife and I stopped here for dinner our first night in KC. We got in pretty late, and we were both tired after traveling. This place was nearby the hotel, and we hadn’t had Thai in awhile.
The restaurant is located in a strip mall, as a lot of restaurants (particularly locally owned) seem to be in the KC metro area. This isn’t so much a detractor in my eyes, since this seems to be the commonplace. The décor in the restaurant is more or less par for the course — various Asian-​influenced wall hangings and ornamental statues. I’d also like to add that the décor isn’t overpowering though, and that’s a real credit to the ownership.
The staff were all very friendly, and we were seated immediately (we were the only customers). I ordered the Thai Spicy Basil with chicken, and my wife ordered the Drunken Noodles. We also ordered the Spring Roll Deluxe appetizer which included 2 spring rolls and 2 egg rolls. The spring rolls were unlike anything I’ve ever had before. They seemed to be comprised primarily of mint and some other leafy green vegetable but with the texture and consistency of eating a garnish. In with this was what I can only assume are dehydrated noodles. All of this is wrapped up in a see-​through, edible rice paper. The first couple of bites were pretty good, when dipped in the provided peanut sauce (or sweet and sour, though it seemed to go better with the peanut sauce). The last few bites were more difficult to swallow — the texture of the veggies in this thing just wasn’t all that pleasing to me. I’m happy to report that the egg roll that is served alongside this appetizer was a lot better than the spring roll, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
As for my dish, it was pretty much on par with the best of similar such dishes (bell pepper, onions, carrots, assorted other veggies in a basil sauce) I’ve had at other Thai restaurants. My wife’s Drunken Noodles were quite good as well, though I’ll admit that this was my first tasting of that particular dish. As such, I have nothing with which to compare it.
It’s worth mentioning that I also ordered a hot sake, and it came out piping hot (as I prefer). It was quite good and really tied together the whole dining experience in my estimation.
This is a place I’d like to give another visit if the opportunity ever arose. I would probably avoid the spring rolls, given another chance and the benefit of hindsight. That particular menu item doesn’t do justice to the quality of the rest of the food. If not for the mediocre spring roll, this place would absolutely get 5 stars.

I’ve been coming here for several years for lunch when the place was called Golden Leaf. In fact, so often that there is a waitress who knows what we want to order. So, when I saw a review on Unilocal that said this place was purchased and remodeled by the people who own Kyoto (another favorite place), I was looking forward to trying it.
I usually get the Yu Hsiang Chicken, so that is what I ordered this time. I’m trying to branch out in 2012, but i thought I would compare the old with the new. The food was just as good as before. It seemed to be fresher, but maybe it was the new white plates. :) I love their hot and sour soup. It’s packed with tofu and actual meat and it has good flavor. My friend got the Beef and Broccoli and she liked it too. Big chunks of broccoli and almost planks of beef, from what I could see.
The service was phenomenal. I’m not sure about Liz T’s experience, but we couldn’t take 2 sips out of our water glass without it being refilled. Also, the food came out very quickly. Granted, it was about 11:30 am on a Wednesday and the place was not full, but our experience was great.
The remodel is very nice. It is more asian than Golden Leaf. It was looking a bit dated, but I didn’t go there for the décor.
We work at the Sprint Campus, so it is the best Chinese place we have found in close proximity. I’m glad the change of ownership has not changed the food!
